Chapter 1
Ch 1 - Pt 1 Dreams of a Hero
Year 900.
Lerin Village sat far away from the busy towns and kingdoms of the world. Most people living there never thought much about what lay beyond the forests, hills, and fields around their homes. Their lives followed a simple, steady rhythm. Wake up early, work until their bodies felt heavy and tired, rest through the night, then start all over again the next day.
They farmed the land, hunted in the woods, gathered supplies, fixed broken tools, and helped one another whenever someone needed a hand. It wasn’t an easy life, but it was familiar and safe. Most people were happy enough with what they had.
News from outside almost never reached the village. When stories from distant lands did arrive, they sounded more like legends than real events. To the people of Lerin, those far-off places felt like an entirely separate world.
But tonight felt different.
Inside Long’s house, a group of children sat together on the wooden floor. Some shifted around to find a comfortable spot, while others leaned forward eagerly, their attention locked on the old man sitting across from them.
Everyone knew what tonight meant.
Story night.
Long sat quietly, with an old book resting on his lap. Its pages were worn thin from years of being opened and read, and its cover had faded to a dull brown with age. He adjusted his glasses and slowly looked around the room, making sure every child was watching him.
“All right, listen closely tonight. I’m going to tell you something important, so don’t let your mind wander halfway through.” He tapped the cover of the book once. “If you have questions, save them until I finish. Let me get through the story first.”
Several children immediately straightened their backs. Others nodded quickly, not wanting to miss a single word.
Long watched them for a moment, then let out a soft breath.
“Tonight’s story is about the greatest king in history. I’m not saying that just to make it sound exciting. If you tune out and miss something important, don’t come asking me to repeat everything later.”
That line alone grabbed everyone’s full attention. Stories about heroes always did.
Long closed the book and set it gently beside him.
“Thousands of years ago, there lived a king named Xeno Fern.” His voice carried a quiet weight that made the whole room go still. “He wasn’t the kind of ruler who just sat on his throne and let others handle all the work. He traveled across the world, fought his own battles, and changed history with his own two hands.”
The room grew quiet enough to hear the wind outside.
“King Xeno brought the North, Central, East, and South Continents together under one rule. No one before him had ever managed it, and no one after him ever did either.”
Several children stared with wide, amazed eyes. Most of them had never even stepped outside the borders of their village. The idea of ruling entire continents felt impossible to imagine.
Long raised one finger.
“But even someone as great as him could not conquer everything.”
The children leaned in closer, curious.
“There was one place he could never bring under his control.” Long paused, and his expression turned serious. “That was the Western Continent.”
Silence spread across the room.
“People called it the Dark Continent.”
A young boy quickly raised his hand. “Teacher, was the ruler there really some kind of demon? Or do people just tell the story to make it sound scarier than it actually was?”
Long slowly shook his head. “No one knows the full truth. The stories don’t all agree. Every version tells it a little differently.”
The room grew even quieter.
“Some believe he was a god who fell from another world. According to those tales, he arrived on this earth badly injured, long before human beings even existed.”
A few children exchanged confused and uneasy looks.
Long kept speaking. “Then came the Lost Age. During that time, he tried to wake up and regain his full power.” His voice became deeper and more serious. “When that happened, the whole world faced great danger.”
In the corner, a boy named Tyda sat very still, listening closely. His dark blue eyes stayed fixed on Long, not blinking even once.
“He built a vast empire filled with creatures that were not normal monsters. He also created powerful commanders by changing humans and other races to serve him.”
A girl raised her hand. “What do these other races look like? Are they just like animals?”
Long gave a small smile. “Some look very similar to humans. Others look completely different. It depends on which race you are talking about.”
Another child spoke up right away. “But are they actually real? No one here has ever seen one, so how do we know?”
“They are real,” Long answered firmly. “Most of them live far away from human lands. Many are stronger than us and live for much longer lives.”
Soft whispers moved through the room. The children’s curiosity grew stronger. Long waited until the noise settled down again.
“There are stories about humans and other races becoming friends. Some even formed families and lived together peacefully.” He paused. “But those kinds of stories are rare.”
Several children looked even more interested now. Long chuckled softly.
“We can talk more about that some other night. Otherwise, we’ll never finish today’s story.”
The group settled back down, though clearly still wanting to hear more.
Long continued.
“King Xeno wasn’t born already strong and powerful. He started out just like any ordinary person.”
That surprised almost everyone in the room.
“He traveled across every corner of the world and, over time, found four loyal companions. Together, the five of them stood up against the ruler of the Dark Continent.”
Long lifted his hand slightly to make his next point clear. “All of them had great amounts of mana.”
At that word, Tyda’s attention grew even sharper.
Mana. The source of all power. The thing every adventurer spoke of. The thing that separated ordinary people from legends and heroes.
“The ruler’s name was Tordas.”
Long lowered his voice.
“It is believed that mana was created by the Goddess Prana. She watches over the whole world and keeps everything in balance.”
The children listened carefully, hanging on every word.
“Mana lets people strengthen their bodies, use powerful skills, cast magic, create special enchanted items, and do things far beyond what normal humans can do.”
Excitement spread through the room. Eyes went wide. Small fists clenched. Every child began imagining what it would feel like to hold that kind of power.
Long’s expression turned serious again.
“King Xeno and his companions fought Tordas.”
No one spoke.
“That war lasted much longer than anyone expected.” His voice grew heavier. “Villages vanished from the map. Great kingdoms fell apart. Whole armies disappeared without a trace.”
The room became completely silent.
“Countless people lost their lives in the fighting.”
Several children lowered their heads. The excitement they felt just moments before faded into something quieter and heavier.
Long let those words sink in for a moment.
“In the end, the final battle arrived.” He paused. “King Xeno and Tordas struck each other down. They both died.”
The room went still. No one had expected that ending. Several children blinked in confusion.
Long watched their faces.
“Neither of them survived.”
There were no cheers. No celebration. Just the end of a terrible war.
Long let out a slow breath.
“Even after both were gone, the Dark Continent stayed covered in thick darkness and mist.” He saw the confused looks around him. “People can sail there and step onto its shores. But not a single person who has gone in has ever come back out again.”
The silence returned, feeling heavier than before.
“After the war ended, many thought peace would finally come.” Long shook his head. “But that never happened.”
The children watched him closely.
“Humans and other races began fighting over mana. Some used it to protect others. But many more used it just to gain power and control.” There was quiet disappointment in his tone. “Mana can help people, but it also brings new problems.”

The Evolution of Mana Echoes Ch 54 - I Will Not Run
"Gaiden! Help me!" Laticia shouted over the noise."I grabbed the old man you pointed out! Is this him?!"Gaiden had been so focused on the fight ahead that he’d completely forgotten about the shop owner. He snapped his head around and ran straight toward them."Laticia! Good job! I owe you one!""Don’t worry about it!" She gasped for breath. "More importantly, he’s still alive!"Gaiden knelt beside the old man."Sir? Can you hear me? Are you hurt?""I’m alright… for now," the old man said weakly."What happened here? Why did that monster appear?""Two people came to my shop earlier," the old man explained. "One looked like a knight in heavy armor with dragon wings—a Dragonia. The other was a mage, a Dark Elf. They were looking for a man in a black suit named Gala.""I told them I didn’t know him. But the Dark Elf didn’t believe me. They saw that man walk into my shop before. I think they summoned this beast just to draw him out and get his attention."Gaiden blinked in shock."Wait…

The Evolution of Mana Echoes Ch 53 - The All-Element Horror
Gaiden ran as fast as he could toward the smoke and fire ahead. His boots hit the ground hard over and over. That’s the old man’s shop… What’s going on there? Why’s it blowing up like that?"Gaiden! Wait up!" Laticia yelled after him.Celine didn’t say anything. She just ran faster, right behind them. When Gaiden finally got there and stopped short, his eyes went wide.A big round ball of fire was floating right in the middle of the street. It had one huge eye staring straight ahead, and little puffs of fire popping all around it."What the heck is that thing?!"Dozens of guards were lying all over the ground, knocked out cold. Their shields were broken into pieces, and their weapons were scattered everywhere. Then a group of soldiers marched straight for the monster. People watching from the sides started talking fast."Thank goodness! The Eastern Elite Soldiers are here!""That’s the 3rd Class unit! The Evolution of Mana Echoes Ch 52 - The Pulse of What’s to Come
Gaiden’s heart was slamming so hard he could barely breathe. He stood frozen, staring at the shop owner like the old man had just told him he’d grow wings tomorrow. Then the old guy burst out laughing.“Hahaha! Relax, kid! I was just messing with you!” He wiped his eyes. “Truth is, pretty much everyone’s born with mana these days. Most folks just never bother training it—doesn’t help with their job, so why bother?”He leaned in, voice turning serious. “But listen to this part. You’re heading south, right? Everyone thinks it’s all peace and sunshine down there. Yeah… you’re gonna find out soon enough that’s a big fat lie. Watch your back.”He grinned. “And I’m guessing you’re one of those Landon trial people? Good luck out there. Try not to die on day one, yeah?”Gaiden let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Old man… I swear you make it sound like half the people leaving here aren’t coming back. He bowed. “Thanks. Seriously.”“No problem!” The old man waved. “Next time you com

The Evolution of Mana Echoes Ch 51 - Mana Tool
Gaiden and Laticia walked side by side through the bustling town. Stalls lined the streets one after another—fresh glistening fish, piles of meat and crisp vegetables on one side. Further down stood shops selling accessories, an inn, a weaponry, armor displays, general tools, and a potion shop.“Laticia, we should head straight for the port first,” Gaiden said. “We need to ask when the ship departs. If we have time left, we can buy everything we need before we sail south. I’m already out of rations, potions, and could do with some new clothes too.”Laticia nodded. “Fine. Let’s go.”When it comes to things like this, he’s far more reliable than he looks, she thought quietly to herself. When they reached the port, Gaiden stopped short. His eyes went wide. The docks were packed tight with people, carts, crates, and sailors shouting over one another. He had never seen so many souls gathered in one place. Then Laticia’s gaze drifted to the far side of the harbor. Her shoulders tensed. A li
