Adrian stood on the jagged edge of the basalt cliff, the dark, sulfurous smoke of the burning southern gate curling around his horns like a shroud. Down in the valley, the golden banners of the Light Alliance fluttered through the haze, a mocking display of triumphant zeal. He watched the heavy, iron-reinforced carriage—surrounded by a tight, impenetrable phalanx of high-paladins—slowly roll away. Inside it, bound in glowing, magic-suppressing chains, was Zafriel.

His chest felt hollow, a raw, aching vacuum where his hard-wired demonic instincts and his lingering human panic clashed in a violent tempest. I have to get him out.

"My Lord?" Kaelan Rith’s voice was hesitant behind him, thick with exhaustion. "The secondary defensive lines are secured, but we must retreat to the Spire. If the Alliance launches another offensive, our current positions won't hold."

"Go back to the Spire, Kaelan," Adrian said, his voice flat, dangerously calm. He didn't turn around. "Organize the defense. Keep the gates locked. I have some unfinished business."

"But Sire, going out there alone—"

"That’s an order, Kaelan."

Adrian didn't wait for a response. He melted into the shadows of the ravine, tracking the heavy carriage from the high ridges. He knew exactly where they were taking Zafriel. Fort Solis. It was a heavily fortified outpost tucked into the limestone cliffs of the eastern border. In the original code of Chronicles of the Dark Court, it was a high-security prison dungeon designed specifically to hold high-threat demonic entities. Adrian knew every corridor, every guard rotation, and every defensive ward of that place. He had memorized the blueprints during his past life as a player.

Getting inside Fort Solis required absolute precision. The outer perimeter of the fortress was laced with light-aspected detection wards that would instantly sound an alarm if Adrian used even a speck of his dark, monarch magic. He would have to do this the hard way—relying entirely on the raw, terrifying physical capability of his massive, muscular frame.

He scaled the sheer limestone cliffs in the dead of night, his sharp, obsidian claws finding purchase in the microscopic crevices of the stone. He slipped over the parapet, dropping silently into the shadow of a stone watchtower.

Ahead of him, two elite knights in golden plate armor patrolled the walkway, their halberds gleaming under the moonlight. Adrian squinted. In his mind's eye, their names floated faintly above their heads: Kairan Vireak and Navier Sopheak.

Adrian didn't give them a chance to react. He blurred forward, a mountain of silent, dark muscle. He grabbed Kairan by the back of his helmet, slamming his face against the stone wall with a dull, heavy crack before the man could draw his blade. Navier turned, his eyes widening in absolute terror as he opened his mouth to shout, but Adrian’s massive hand clamped over his visor, suffocating the scream. With a swift, calculated twist of his powerful arms, Adrian put the knight to sleep, laying both unconscious bodies gently in the shadows of the battlements.

"Too easy," Adrian muttered, shaking out his massive hands.

He slipped through the heavy oak door leading to the lower cells. Thanks to his encyclopedic knowledge of the game’s layout, he bypassed the main guard barracks entirely, navigating the damp, spiral staircases and narrow stone corridors. Whenever a guard crossed his path, Adrian neutralized them with brutal, silent efficiency—a chokehold here, a swift strike to the temple there. His heart hammered with an adrenaline-fueled tempo, every nerve ending screaming with the thrill of the high-stakes intrusion.

The air grew progressively colder as he descended, heavy with the metallic tang of blood and the sharp crackle of localized lightning. Adrian finally reached the deeper inquisitorial cells. The heavy iron door was secured by a complex light-rune lock that hummed with defensive energy.

Gritting his teeth, Adrian pressed his bare palm directly against the burning runes. The light magic hissed violently against his dark, charcoal-grey skin, searing his flesh with agonizing heat. He didn't flinch. He exerted his raw physical power, forcing his claws into the seams of the iron door and ripping it entirely off its hinges with a muted, grinding screech of tearing metal.

He stepped inside, and the sight that met his eyes made his blood run instantly hot with a primitive, terrifying rage.

Zafriel hung from heavy, ceiling-mounted chains, his arms stretched taut above his head. His sleeveless white tunic had been shredded, hanging in bloody tatters around his waist. His pale, beautiful chest and back were marred by raw, angry red lashes, and a glowing, branding mark burned slowly against his collarbone, sizzling with magic-neutralizing energy.

"Zafriel..." Adrian breathed, his voice a low, trembling growl that shook the damp stone walls.

The light champion’s head lifted slowly, his silver hair matted with sweat and dried blood. His brilliant blue eyes were cloudy with pain, but as they locked onto the massive, dark silhouette of the demon lord, a weak, reckless smile broke through the blood on his lips.

"Well," Zafriel whispered, his voice raspy and breathless. "You really don't know how to stay away, do you?"

Adrian was at his side in a single, desperate stride. With two powerful tugs of his clawed hands, he shattered the heavy iron shackles, catching Zafriel’s limp, exhausted body as he collapsed forward. The physical contrast between them was devastatingly beautiful—Zafriel’s pale, heat-radiating, bruised body pressed flush against Adrian's massive, dark, and protective chest.

"I told you not to die," Adrian rasped, his hands trembling as he held Zafriel close, his face burying into the crook of the champion's neck, inhaling the faint, stubborn scent of ozone and sweet rain underneath the copper smell of blood.

"I'm not dead yet," Zafriel muttered, his hands feebly clutching Adrian's broad, muscular shoulders, his head resting against the demon's collarbone.

Even weakened, the physical contact sent a sudden, electric wave of heat through them both. The absolute, desperate relief of being held by each other flared into a heavy, suffocating tension. Adrian's lips brushed against the raw, burning brand on Zafriel's collarbone, his cold breath soothing the hot wound, sending a sharp, breathless shiver through the champion's body.

"Adrian..." Zafriel gasped, his eyes locking onto Adrian's glowing red ones with a desperate, heavy longing. "If we're going to get caught, you might as well make it worth it."

Adrian didn't hesitate. He captured Zafriel’s lips in a fierce, deeply possessive kiss. It was hot, desperate, and filled with a raw, protective hunger that defied the cold stone walls around them. His massive hands slid down to cup Zafriel’s lower back, pressing their hips together, feeling the frantic, throbbing heat of their bodies igniting in the dark cell. The touch was thick with unspoken promises, a desperate claim of ownership and survival amidst the ruins of their respective worlds.

But the moment of heavy, breathless intimacy was violently shattered.

The heavy stone walls of the cell block suddenly vibrated. The temperature in the corridor outside plummeted, replaced by a blinding, pristine golden light that cut through the shadows of the dungeon like a broadsword.

Adrian pulled back, his eyes flashing a dangerous, protective red as he shielded Zafriel behind his massive frame, his claws unsheathing with a lethal clack.

From the heavy dust of the corridor, a single figure stepped into the doorway.

He was a man of imposing height, wearing simple, unadorned white robes that seemed to radiate a quiet, suffocating pressure. He carried no shield, only a single, massive greatsword sheathed on his back that hummed with a power so immense it made Adrian’s demonic instincts scream in absolute, high-alert warning.

Renzio Mahendra. The legendary hero of the Alliance.

"I must admit, I didn't expect the Demon Monarch to play the part of a thief in the night," Renzio said, his voice calm, steady, and terrifyingly polite. He rested his hand on the hilt of his greatsword, his golden eyes locking onto Adrian. "Step away from the traitor, demon. Your story ends here."

They aren't just pushing the border, Lord Zafriel... they've ordered a complete, scorched-earth cleansing of the entire southern region. They're burning everything. Humans, demons, villages... they're going to wipe us all out."The heavy, humid air of the cavern grew instantly freezing. The lingering heat of their interrupted kiss evaporated, replaced by a sharp, suffocating dread.Zafriel dropped to his knees beside the dying scout, his hands flaring with a warm, golden light as he pressed them against Alric’s bleeding side. "Alric, breathe. Hang on. Who authorized this? The Grand Inquisitor?""Daryen Surin..." Alric gasped, his eyes rolling back as the light magic stabilized his shallow breathing. "He brought the decree. "It’s time to stop worrying about the border, Zafriel. We have much larger problems to survive."Zafriel’s hand was still suspended in the empty air, his fingers brushing the exact spot where the golden letters of the system notification had just been hovering. Before Zafriel’s light-attuned senses could register the residual magical hum of the interface, Adrian swiped his massive, clawed hand through the space, scattering the lingering particles of digital gold into nothingness. The glowing text window dissolved instantly, swallowed by the thick, rising steam of the cavern."Seriously, what was that?" Zafriel asked, his brow furrowing as he looked from the empty air back to Adrian. "The air felt... glitched. Like a tapestry with a loose thread.""Just a pocket of unstable atmospheric mana," Adrian lied smoothly, his grave
