Heavy metallic thuds rattled the server room door as the hydraulic breaching ram struck the frame a second time, sending a spray of metal flakes across the concrete floor.

"Caleb, the lock won't hold another hit!" Maya yelled, keeping her weapon aimed at the entrance while sliding her back against the cool surface of a server rack.

On the center console monitor, Julian Vance’s face remained frozen in the live video feed, his voice still echoing through the room's speakers from thirty floors below.

"You're a brilliant auditor, Caleb," Julian said smoothly from the screen, leaning against his desk. "You built the very security infrastructure that's keeping you locked out right now. But you forgot one simple rule of corporate architecture: the master key never leaves the vault."

"He's stalling," Chloe said, typing furiously on an auxiliary keyboard beside the main terminal. "He's using the live feed to keep our hardware tied up while his security team forces the door."

Caleb didn't look back at the door. His eyes scanned the cascading lines of code scrolling across the diagnostic monitor.

"He's not just stalling," Caleb said, his voice level and steady. "He's routing the firewall encryption through the building's main power grid to protect the offline database."

"Can we bypass it?" Maya asked, firing a single warning shot through the upper transom window as a heavy boot slammed against the exterior door frame, cracking the reinforced steel hinge.

"We don't need to bypass it," Caleb replied.

Instead of fighting the firewall, Caleb yanked his tactical transceiver cable out of the diagnostic port and plugged it directly into the server's main power regulator.

"If Julian wants to tie the encryption key to his terminal downstairs," Caleb muttered, his fingers flying across the console keys, "we'll feed his own biometric signature right back into the system."

With a sharp keystroke, Caleb initiated a forced hardware loop, redirecting the server's emergency cooling voltage straight down the private fiber trunk line into Julian's boardroom terminal.

On the live video feed, Julian's calm expression suddenly faltered.

The lights on the boardroom desk flickered violently. The secure terminal in front of Julian began to hum with a high-pitched whine as power surged backward through the private network cable.

"What are you doing?" Julian snapped, stepping away from his desk as the console monitor on his end sparked and flashed blinding white.

"Returning your call," Caleb said into the console microphone.

Pop.

A small electrical arc burst from Julian's terminal screen down below, sending a cloud of dark smoke billowing across the boardroom camera feed. Julian coughed, swatting at the air as his own security system locked him out of his administrative profile.

Instantly, the red warning box on the roof server monitor vanished.

A bright green progress bar surged across the screen from zero to one hundred percent in less than three seconds.

Transfer complete. Financial regulatory database updated. Public ledger broadcast successful.

"It's out," Chloe breathed, staring at the monitor in disbelief as the confirmation codes populated the screen. "Every shell account, every hidden transfer, every offshore asset—it's locked in the federal clearinghouse database. Julian can't touch a single cent."

Before Julian could recover downstairs, the heavy steel door of the roof server room finally gave way with a deafening screech.

The reinforced hinges snapped, and the door flew inward, crashing against the server racks. Two heavily armed private security operatives rushed through the opening, raising their rifles.

Maya didn't hesitate. She fired two rapid shots, striking the leading operative's tactical vest and forcing him backward into the doorframe. The second guard swung his weapon toward her, but Caleb was already moving.

Caleb stepped out from behind the console, slammed the heavy stock of his submachine gun into the guard's rifle barrel, and swept his legs out from under him. The guard hit the concrete floor hard, his weapon sliding across the room.

"Clear!" Maya shouted, keeping her pistol trained on the hallway beyond the ruined doorway.

Sirens wailed loudly outside the tower as a fleet of federal vehicles swarmed the plaza below, their red and blue lights flashing against the glass windows of surrounding skyscrapers.

Caleb grabbed the encrypted micro-drive from the terminal port and pocketed it, turning toward Chloe and Maya.

"The ledger is public, and Julian's assets are frozen," Caleb said, nodding toward the emergency stairwell exit leading up to the rooftop helipad. "Now we leave before the marshals reach the roof."
