Chapter 1: The Whispers of a God's Dream
Chapter 1: The Whispers of a God's Dream
The sun was sinking low and taking its time over the sprawling cityscape of Meridian Heights, patting the skies in fiery orange and soft pink. Amid the chorus of honking horns, the screams of frantic street vendors, and hurried footsteps, there was an apartment that stood apart-it probably had to do with its unusually lethargic aura. Inside did lie Lance Drayton, docked in a threadbare couch, surrounded by books and gadgets strewn across the floor. He turned the pages of his phone in a lazy manner, and a faint, almost imperceptible smirk pulled at his lips.
"Another up-top day," he murmured, his satisfaction tinged with the contentment lacing his voice.
The door to his apartment slammed open, and there walked a young man with disheveled hair, breathless face running on the flushed side. Nate, this was the name of the boy and Lance's childhood friend, self-appointed conscience.
"Lance! This can't go on," Nate huffed, leaning against the doorframe. "Overdue rent, Ms Cavanaugh is all set to kick you out. Do you even care?"
Lance's brow raised and his smirk widened. "Care? That's a pretty strong word for me, Nate. I think of it more as... select prioritization."
"Selective--" Groaning, Nate threw up his hands. "You're impossible. You've got the brains to fix this mess, but you'd rather waste away here. You're-"
"A genius," Lance interrupted as he sat up, eyes glinting impish light. "Why trouble yourself with mundane problems when there exists a vast world of possibilities beyond? For instance..." He leaned forward and whispered hush-hush. "Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be God?"
Nate blinked. "A God? Lance, you're crazy!"
"You'd envy rather," Lance said, stretching lazily across his length. "Consider it. Ultimate freedom-the limitless power for making a world your own. That's the fullest escape from this misshapen life."
“You’re insane,” Nate muttered to him. “And delusional,” he called, casting an admiring glance in his best friend's direction.
The smirk faded, the replacement intensity not seen much by Nate. “Insanity and genius often walk hand-in-hand. Remember that.”
There was a knock at the door before their conversation could go any further. Not expecting anyone, Lance frowned slightly. Nate opened the door angrily, revealing a woman dressed in a sleek black suit whose sharp gaze swept over the disheveled apartment before landing on Lance. "Mr. Drayton," she said, her voice cool and businesslike. "My name is Celeste Varn, and I'm with the organization who believes you have... unique potential."
Lance raised an eyebrow. "Unique potential? Sounds like a scam."
Slight smirk by Celeste: "Not at all." "Just means that we have been eyeing you, and we have been impressed with your... unconventional approach to life."
Crossed his arms, glaring back at her. "What kind of organization are you dealing with, by the way?"
"One that doesn't involve itself in the public eye," she replied cryptically. "We handle matters of awesome importance—technology, power, and the future itself of humanity."
Lance smiled mildly, leaning back. "Cool offer. But why me?"
Celeste narrowed her eyes a little. "Because you are not constrained by conventional thinking and your last name. You see the wider picture. We believe you could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the world."
Nate shot a warning supercilious glance towards Lance, but Lance's interest had already been tickled. "And what do I get out of it?"
"Opportunities you have yet to attach to your imaginations," Celeste said. "Access to resources, to knowledge, and to power. Think of them as stepping stones towards that godhood you were saying of."
Lance chuckled, a low, almost dangerous sound. "You've done your homework. Alright, Ms. Varn, let's hear more."
Celeste's "pitch" was nothing short of extraordinary, for she spoke of a world underground, a place where ancient families exercised the most unimaginable powers and where technology blurred definitions between man and machine, and where a secret feud was brewing over the right to godhood.
"Power is what families are after," Celeste stated evenly. "Some use technology for it; some have resorted to archaic practices and superhuman methods to achieve it. It's a strategy game, ruthless, and stakes can't be higher."
"You're dicing me into this game then?" Lance inquired, his tone having that tang of mistrust.
"Not just join," Celeste said with gaze sticking to the latter. "Win."
Lance let out a low whistle. "Ambitious. But why should I trust you?"
Celeste's expression did not change. "You shouldn't. There is no room for luxury of trust in this game. Just think that the other option is to remain here, rotting on that couch, passing time as the world outside it keeps on moving without you."
Nate stepped in rather angrily. "Lance, this sounds dangerous. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into."
Lance's smirk returned, sharper than before. "Dangerous? Sure. But isn't that what makes life interesting?"
Celeste handed him a sleek black card. "If you're interested, come to this address tomorrow night. We'll be waiting."
As she left, Nate turned to Lance, frustration evidencing itself on his face. "You're not actually considering this, are you?"
He flipped the card between his fingers, hyperventilating with lots of thoughts in his head. "Why not? It is better than doing nothing all day long,- Nate, don't you think it's time we start playing much bigger?"
Lance Montgomery had just decided to wake up, although the world was yet to know.

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 59: Weaving the Web
Chapter 59 – Weaving the Web Lance was shadowing the deserted lanes of the neutral trade zone, and his face revealed nothing. The winding stone pathway lay in the fuzzy glow of a few street lanterns, while in his mind everything was in sharp focus. They thought they had put him to a test: the Ouroboros Syndicate. They believed they had the upper hand. They were wrong. Evelyn matched his stride, her presence silent but charged with unspoken thoughts. Vex and Selena trailed behind, their usual playful banter absent. Elias, ever the observer, kept to the shadows, ensuring they weren’t being followed. When they finally reached the safe house, Lance wasted no time. “Status?” he asked, his voice calm but commanding. Elias stepped forward, adjusting the communication device in his ear. “Everything’s in motion. The moment you walked out of that fortress, the Syndicate’s eyes were glued to you. They’re trying to analyze your next move.” Lance smirked. “Good. Let them try.” Se

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 58: A Game of Shadows
Chapter 58 – A Game of Shadows A storm brewed on the horizon—not in the skies, but in the undercurrents of power shifting between forces unseen. Lance sat in a dimly lit chamber beneath the outpost, his fingers drumming lightly against the armrest of his chair. Across from him, Evelyn stood with her arms crossed, her eyes cold but intrigued. Vex and Selena were lounging nearby, their usual air of amusement masking their keen attention. Elias, ever the strategist, leaned against the wall, his arms folded. The game had begun, and now, they were waiting for the first move. And it came sooner than expected. A hooded figure entered the chamber, his movements smooth, unhurried. A trained operative—someone sent by the Ouroboros Syndicate to test their ‘control’ over Lance. The man bowed slightly. “Lady Evelyn. Lord Lance. The Syndicate extends an invitation.” Lance smirked. Here we go. Invitation to the Spider’s Lair Evelyn played her part flawlessly. She narrowed her eyes

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 57: The Art of Deception
Chapter 57 – The Art of Deception The night over Lysander’s ruins was still, but the storm was already brewing. Lance stood at the center of the old sanctuary, his hands clasped behind his back, deep in thought. The others had dispersed to prepare for the plan. It would take precision—flawless execution. A single misstep, and they wouldn’t just be hunted. They’d be *eradicated*. But that was what made it thrilling. He smirked to himself. Let’s see who plays into my hands first. Two days later, the plan was in motion. The first step? Making the world believe there was a rift between Lance and Evelyn. Rumors spread fast. Faster when you let them. Word began circulating in the underground networks—Evelyn Delacroix had finally decided to claim her place among the elite once more. And her first act? Bringing Lance under her control. “Think they’ll take the bait?” Kiera asked, walking beside him. They were in the heart of a bustling trade outpost hidden within the mountai

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 56: The Beginning of the Power Struggle
Chapter 56 – The Beginning of the Power Struggle Amid an eerie silence stood the ruined city of Lysander, with its ancient buildings now draped in the dim light of the crescent moon. Below the dark ceiling of the sanctuary, the group gathered silently, somberly observing the canvas-like weight the revelation lay there for them upon. The Ouroboros Syndicate was watching. Not just watching—targeting Lance. To most, this would be a reason to retreat. To reconsider their approach. But to Lance? It was an opportunity. Elias sighed, rubbing his temples. “So, let me get this straight. The Warden Council—basically the law enforcers of the supernatural world—are keeping an eye on us. The Ashen Society—powerful elites who think they can control everything—are aware of you. And now, the Ouroboros Syndicate—the people who don’t just acquire power but own it—have taken an interest in you?” Selena chuckled. “Sounds about right.” Evelyn didn’t share in the amusement. Her arms remai

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 55: The Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 55 – The Calm Before the StormThe ruins of Lysander stretched in eerie silence as Lance and his group followed Evelyn, Selena, and Vex to a more secure location. Their footsteps echoed faintly against cracked stone, a reminder of the city’s ancient past. Lance observed the others closely. Evelyn moved with measured precision, her sharp gaze scanning their surroundings. Selena, ever the enigma, seemed relaxed—too relaxed. And Vex? His brooding silence spoke volumes. Something was wrong. Lance had learned to read between the lines, to notice the subtle tells that betrayed unease. His mind worked rapidly, piecing together possibilities. They weren’t just here for a reunion. They were here because something had forced their hand. And Lance would find out what. After several minutes, they reached an abandoned structure with remnants of intricate carvings on its walls. The roof had partially collapsed, leaving an open view of the night sky above. Despite its worn stat

The Godhood Algorithm Chapter 54: Shifting Tides
Chapter 54 – Shifting TidesThe atmosphere inside the ruined city of Lysander had changed. Even though Lucien had vanished, his final words still lingered in the air, like an ominous echo that refused to fade. "Enjoy your victory, Lance. You won’t be celebrating for long."Kiera exhaled, tucking her dagger away. “So, are we just going to ignore that part, or…?” Elias stretched his arms, rolling his shoulders. “Eh. I say we enjoy the win for a few minutes before worrying about the next impending disaster.” Lance remained quiet. His fingers absentmindedly tapped against the artifact hidden beneath his coat. Something was coming. He could feel it in his bones. Lucien’s words hadn’t been a mere bluff. Lance had made too much noise—his name would soon spread through the right circles, attracting attention he wasn’t ready for yet. Or perhaps, he mused, they weren’t ready for me. Still, he needed to prepare. Kiera’s gaze was sharp as she studied him. “You’ve been quiet.”
