Chapter 1 - Biggest Shock

Cephas was delivering cakes on a snowy afternoon. He struggled, driving his scooter on the slippery highway, as chilly air threw itself at his face.

This was the last delivery he had to make before he returned to the warmth of his house and to his beautiful wife.

He was trying to earn the last cash to complete the money he had been saving up to buy her a designer bag.

His wife, Violet loved handbags so much but he could not buy designer bags for her. Because of the types of friends she had, she hated the idea of buying a knockoff bag.

Besides the fact that he had to ride a long way to the hotel, he was happy that the next day was his birthday.

He would turn 25 years old, his struggles and hardship he was facing was finally coming to an end.

The thought of that made him more enthusiastic to work without thinking of the stress he was passing through.

He parked his scooter on the driveway of the hotel. The place was closed, it seemed like very wealthy people had rented the place for the party.

It was odd for them to get an order for such a big party. He walked into the hotel, following the address they had been included in the order.

Music was blaring from the closed lounge, he could see the disco lights even from where he was standing.

Rich people did the most when it came to their parties, they didn’t have to rent out the whole hotel because of the small portion of the hotel they were occupying.

He texted the person that placed the order that he was outside the lounge and they asked him to come in.

The loud music went off and the spotlight was on him, was someone throwing him a surprise birthday? It was not his birthday yet.

Hannah came to him and took the cake box from him, he was too stunned to speak as he didn’t know what was going on.

“Guys, this is Violet’s useless husband,” she announced to everyone in the lounge. “Delivering cakes as usual.” her mocking tone was clear.

Waves of embarrassment washed through Cephas’s spine and laughter erupted from the other people

He had walked into a den of wealthy people. Hannah is a rich heiress with the kind of people she’s friends with, he knew that everyone in the room was a wealthy person.

“Your order is a total of ten dollars and fifty-five cents,” Maintaining a professional mode, He stretched his phone out for her to scan the QR code to pay.

“Are you not ashamed? Requesting for payment from your wife’s friend for the cheap cake the bought at your company.'' Hannah said scornfully.

Yes, he was ashamed to even be in that state but he was desperate because of the bag he wanted to buy for his wife.

He could not leave without collecting that money because when he left that place, he was going to purchase the bag for her.

“I am sorry ma’am, what you said now is against our company's policy. You have to pay for what you got.” He said respectfully.

There were murmurs amongst them.

“Violet married this trashy man over Kade? I can’t believe this,”

“She left a wealthy man for someone that can not afford a 10 dollar cake.”

Someone threw their drink on his face. “You do not deserve Violet. She is too good for a nobody like you.”

He held in the urge to look for the person that spilled drink on his face, he just wiped it with his arm.

“He won’t leave till he agrees to not receive payments for the cake.”

“I agree.”

“Look at the way you are embarrassing our dear Violet,'' Hannah spoke again. “You are always around her like a leech now everyone knows that you can’t fend for her.”

“How do you expect her to face them now that they know that she is married to you?” Hannah asked him.

She had never failed to hide that she hated the idea that her best friend was married to him instead of her brother, Kade.

“Ma’am you still need to pay for the cake. It’s getting late already, the cake shop will soon close up.” He remained calm.

He was doing that for Violet, he respected that hannah was her best friend that was why he didn’t respond to her.

Firing words at her would only make things worse.

“He is so shameless, just like you said Hannah. He keeps insisting on taking the money. Is he that broke?” One of their friends asked, looking at him with disgust.

“This is why Violet never liked to talk about her husband, he is such a loser.”

“I think we should show him what having money feels like, guys.” Haannah grinned at him.

They all picked their money guns and pointed it at him then they fired the bills. Money flew in the air, drooping on Cephas’ body.

His ear reddened from disgrace. The bills stuck on his body, Hannah grabbed a bottle of wine and a small pail of ice.

“DJ, please play some music for us, we need to turn things up.” Hannah yelled. The blaring music came on again.

He waited instead of running off with the hopes of receiving his payment. Hannah poured some content of the wine into her mouth, she juggled it in her mouth and spat it on his face.

“Eww.. Disgusting,” Everyone roared.

“Oops,” Hannah covered her mouth. “I am so sorry, I should rinse my saliva off your face.” She emptied the rest of the bottle content on him.

Everyone else there seemed to be having fun while they watched Hannah treat him that way.

“Hannah seemed to be calm so he asked her for the last time. “Please can I have the money now? My boss might fire me for coming late.” he pleaded.

“You don’t get the point of all these right? I will let you know.” She carried the cake and smashed it on his face.

Cephas realized that he was not going to get a dime from them. His sixth sense clicked that they had sprayed him some money.

He wiped the cakes that covered his eyes away and knelt to pick up an $100 bill then he dropped the change on the floor.

He bowed and turned on his heels to leave.

“Do you know Violet is here?” Hannah said in a mocked tone, knowing fully well what she was plotting.

He stopped in his tracks. His wife was here, Amongst the people that humiliated him just now? And she watched them treat him like this?

Hannah liked to act mischievous but Violet, he didn’t think she was that kind of person.

He looked around to see her face in the crowd.

“Stop looking around like a thief, you are not going to steal her from the party, are you?”

“Where is my wife?” he growled at her.

“Where is my wife?” She mimicked him. “She’s in that room” Hannah pointed at the door. “Go..”

Cephas didn't listen to hear what she was going to say and headed straight to the room. He threw the door open and his jaw dropped.

A man was shoving his tongue down his wife’s throat.
