"Mr Hart?" Angela whispered fearfully.

The very important person she had been waiting for had been at her company's lobby, being mistreated by her own staff.

Who knew what he would think of her?

After saying his piece, Benjamin turned around to leave, but Angela ran to him and grabbed hold of his arm.

"Please, forgive my oversight, I should have waited at the door to receive you immediately I found out that you were coming." She cried.

The guards and Barb were frozen by Angela's behaviour, and for a moment they did not know what to think or say, then Barb spoke.

"Miss Glen, you must be mistaken, Benjamin is no one important. Why are you apologizing to him?"

Angela slowly turned around and glared at Barb, causing Barb to wilt like a plant that had not been watered in days.

"What did you just say?" Angela demanded.

"He… He is no one important, just my friend's ex. He has come to try to defraud you." Barb insisted, her voice shaky and no longer as confident as a couple of minutes ago.

"He is just a gigolo. How can he say that he wanted to see you? I was just trying to protect you from him." Barb continued.

"You idiot." Angela gave Barb a slap so resounding that she fell against the counter and grabbed her face, which now had a red, glaring handprint.

"How dare you insinuate that I cannot control myself in front of a man? Who are you to make any decisions on my behalf?"

"If you had so much intelligence, why are you working at the front desk instead of up at the executive offices?" Angela roared.

Barb cowered in fear.

She chanced a glance at Benjamin, and hate filled her heart. She could not understand how she was being slapped for the same loser who had been treated like a dog by Diana and her family.

She wanted to tell Angela that she was mistaken, but the slap on her face was still smarting; she was afraid of what would happen if she opened her mouth again.

"And as for you." Angela's gaze swung to the guards who were shaking like a single blade of grass in a rainstorm.

They did not wait for her to scold them but immediately fell to their knees and slammed their foreheads on the marble ground with a resounding blow. They had just witnessed what had happened with Barb, and they did not want the same fate to befall them.

"Forgive us, madam, sir. Barb told us to kick him out."

"She said that the decree was straight from you and that if we did not do it, we would lose our jobs."

"Since when did you start taking orders from the receptionist? I will not spare you today."

"Please, Miss Glen. I have a family to feed."

"Please, forgive us, Miss."

At that point, Angela was ready to let everyone go. They had given her a bad image to Benjamin, and she wanted to show him that she had nothing but respect for him.

Hence, everyone's punishment had to be harsh to be a lesson and also to show Benjamin her honesty.

Cameron, on the other hand, felt sorry for both men, who he knew had been reluctant to touch him until Barb started inciting them simply because he had rejected her disgusting proposition.

All his anger was directed at her for the predatory advances towards her, and he wanted her to fully suffer the consequences.

"Miss Glen, the security guards were simply tools. Their punishment should not be overwhelming." He turned to Brab, "Now, she is a conniving woman who should not be the face guests see when they step into your building."

"Thank you so much, boss." The guards bowed eagerly to Benjamin as his words exonerated them.

"Fine then, you are lucky Mr Hart has shown mercy towards you. Nonetheless, both of you will be suspended for an entire week without pay. That should teach you not to make such a mistake again. Get out of my sight!"

Considering that Angela had been on the verge of firing them, the alternative was a million times better.

The guards felt instant relief. They might go hungry for a week, but at least they would still have a job to return to at the end.

"Thank you so much, Miss Glen, Boss." They praised again before getting off the floor and running out.

As soon as they had gone out, Barb fell to her knees and put her hands in supplication, trying to hold Angela's leg.

"Miss Glen, please, forgive me. I have been a loyal staff member for five years. My family needs me to have this job."

Angela stepped away, dodging Barb's hands, and looked down on her derisively.

"You should have thought about that before you slandered Mr Hart."

Seeing that Angela was not willing to have mercy on her, Barb turned to Benjamin.

"Please, don't hold this against me, Ben. I only made a mistake, please forgive me for Diana's sake."

Even though Benjamin's face was expressionless, deep inside, he was burning because Barb had tried to use emotional blackmail on him. Not only that, she waved Diana's name around like it was supposed to mean something to him.

And she even had the nerve to give him a nickname like they were that friendly.

He turned to Angela.

"Firing her is not satisfactory. I want you to know that Barb has been selling your company secrets to outsiders. You need to call in the police to investigate this case."

While living with Diana and her family, Benjamin had listened to Barb discuss with Diana how she had gotten money from people after she had sold off company secrets she had gotten while snooping through offices late at night when everyone had gone home.

Barb slumped when she heard what Benjamin just said because she knew that meant big trouble, and the fact that he had brought that information out meant that he was ready to punish her to the very end.

Angela's face turned white at the realization that she had been betrayed by an insider.

"Hello, guards. Come to the front desk right now." Angela immediately made a call.

Soon, two guards came in. These were different from the ones who had come at Barb's bidding.

"I want you to take her to the police station. She will be there until an investigation into her crimes is concluded."

Barbs' cries echoed as she was dragged off.

"Mr Hart, can we go up to my office now?"

When they got up to her office and had settled down, Benjamin asked.

"Miss Glen, I want to know all about ISNS."

Angela, who had been taking a sip of water, choked, coughing and spraying the water all over her desk.

The man stood up and turned to her. He was tall, with graying hair at his temples and the kind of face that gave nothing away. His eyes were sharp and assessing, and Diana had the uncomfortable feeling that he was looking right through her."I am Edward Stone," he said, his voice measured and precise. "And I am here to discuss the removal of the Cook family from this premises."Diana's gaze swung from his face to her mother's, then to her sister's. The room felt suddenly too small, the walls closing in."What is this man talking about?" Diana asked weakly. "Why is he asking us to leave our house?"Her mother began to wail loudly, the sound piercing and desperate. Ariana's face had gone pale, and her aunt was fanning herself with a magazine as if she might faint.Edward stepped forward and handed Diana a thick folder of documents. • The Courthouse II

It took a second for Diana to snap back to her senses, and she took a careful look at Benjamin in what looked like a custom-tailored suit and an Audemars Piguet wristwatch."I know it can't be easy for you," she said softly, "But you think it's tacky stealing someone's clothes just to impress your ex?""Why don't you mind your business?" Cameron shot back, then mimicked her mockingly. "Don't you think it's tacky to bring your ugly lover to your divorce proceedings?"Diana's face turned pale, and she opened her mouth to explain that there was nothing going on between her and Barry, but Benjamin interrupted her coldly."Mr Solicitor, where do I sign?"Benjamin finished with the signing and briskly walked away, not waiting to look at Diana. He headed towards the back of the courthouse because when the car had first approached the entrance, he realized that people were gather out front, waiting for him. • The Courthouse I

  • Grandfather

The sound of birds chirping woke Benjamin early the next morning. For a long moment, he lay still, letting the unfamiliar comfort of the mattress sink in. No springs digging into his back. No thin blanket that barely covered his feet. The sheets smelled of lavender, and the morning light filtering through the curtains was soft and golden. He turned his head and looked around his room. Everything was exactly as he had left it. His books were still on the shelf, arranged in the same order he'd always kept them. The photograph of his mother on the nightstand, her warm, beautiful smile was still there, clear and not even gathering the slightest film of dust.'This must have been grandpa's doing.' He thought fondly. He reached out and touched the frame, then pulled his hand back. This was his room. His real room. The one he'd grown up in, the one he'd left behind when he'd gone undercover. Being back felt strange, like wearing clothes that felt like they belonged to a different person. But
