When Damian opened his eyes, the bright white light from the hospital room immediately made him squint.
His body felt incredibly heavy. Even moving his hand required considerable effort. The pain in his chest was still stabbing, although it was not as severe as he remembered.
He stared at the ceiling for a moment, trying to gather his memories.
Slowly, the events of the previous night returned to his mind.
He remembered Celine plunging a knife into his chest, then the two of them continuing to make love on the bed without caring about his presence as he lay bleeding across the marble floor of their bedroom.
The pain had not disappeared. It was not only the wound in his body, but also something far deeper.
For five years, he had believed that Celine was the only woman who would never betray him. He had even given the woman who had been his secretary for the past five years full access to his wealth and power.
Damian took a deep breath.
Everything went dark again.
He did not know how long he had remained unconscious. When he opened his eyes again, a nurse was standing beside his bed, checking his IV.
“Ah, you’re awake. Your surgery was successful, although you had almost lost all your blood, and the knife nearly pierced your heart. You’re truly strong and protected by fate.”
Damian nodded slowly.
“How long have I been here?”
“About eight hours.”
Damian fell silent.
“The old man in the room next door?”
The nurse looked slightly surprised that Damian still remembered that patient.
“He passed away only fifteen minutes after you donated your blood to him. What a shame. It ended up being wasted.”
Damian stared toward the door.
He remembered how he had given his blood to the old man while his own body had been in critical condition. The decision had felt so simple at the time, but now he did not even understand why he had been able to do it.
Perhaps because, at that moment, he had simply stopped caring about his own life.
“Did he have any family?”
The nurse shook her head.
“I’m not sure. It seemed that no family members came.”
Damian nodded faintly.
At least, before he died, the old man had received the blood he needed.
The nurse left after making sure his condition was stable enough.
Damian was alone again.
The room felt quiet.
He looked out the window and saw the morning sky, still covered in clouds. The city outside continued moving as usual, as if nothing had happened to his life.
That was when a voice sounded inside his head.
Ding!
Damian immediately turned his head.
There was no one there.
He even checked the monitor beside his bed, but found nothing unusual.
Then the voice sounded again.
<Good Deed System has successfully integrated with Host's body.>
Damian froze.
“Good Deed... System?”
A transparent blue screen slowly appeared in front of him.
Damian instinctively raised his hand, but the screen had no physical form. His hand simply passed through it.
He remained silent for quite some time.
Was he still dreaming? Or was he hallucinating because he had lost too much blood?
Yet the writing appearing before him was far too clear to be dismissed as a hallucination.
<Host: Damian.>
<Total Good Deed Points : 100.>
<Good deed detected.>
<Evaluation High sacrifice.>
Damian stared at the screen with mixed emotions.
He had never believed in anything like this.
But after what had happened the previous night, his life had already turned into something he had never imagined. So after seeing the strange system before him, he was no longer overly surprised.
"What are you?"
“What are these points for?”
As if understanding his question, the screen changed again.
<Good Deed Points can be used to obtain special abilities.>
Then an option appeared.
<Beginner Reward: Basic Physical Enhancement.>
<Effect: Increases physical strength, endurance, reflexes, and accelerates wound recovery.>
Damian read the information several times.
He was still hesitant.
However, his curiosity eventually overcame his doubts.
He blinked.
<Reward accepted.>
Instantly, Damian's body felt warm. A thin blue circle quickly enveloped him before disappearing.
The sensation did not last long, but it was enough to make him take a deep breath.
The pain that had previously felt like stabbing slowly diminished. His body was still weak, but now he felt much lighter than he had a few minutes earlier.
Damian tried moving his arm.
There was no heaviness like before.
He then tried to sit up.
This time, he succeeded.
Damian stared at both of his hands.
“This is real...”
He still did not know where the system had come from, but one thing was certain.
His body had indeed changed.
His gaze then fell upon the system screen.
“Who was that old man?”
<Information regarding the previous heir is currently inaccessible.>
“The previous heir?”
<Correct.>
Damian frowned.
“So this system belonged to him?”
<Information is currently inaccessible.>
He sighed.
This system clearly held many secrets.
Unfortunately, he did not yet have enough power to obtain the answers.
Before Damian could ask anything else, there was a knock on the door.
Ding!
The translucent blue screen vanished in an instant.
“Hey!” Damian shouted, but there was nothing he could do as the screen disappeared.
A man around fifty years old wearing a black suit and thick glasses entered the room.
The moment he saw Damian sitting up, the man stopped.
His eyes widened.
“Mr. Damian?”
Damian looked at him.
The man immediately walked closer.
“I’m Marcus.”
Damian recognized the name.
Marcus was the lawyer who had handled several of his family's personal affairs for years.
“What are you doing here?”
Marcus did not answer immediately. Instead, he pulled a chair over and sat beside the bed.
“I was the one who brought you to the emergency room last night.”
Damian fell silent.
“How did you find me?”
“You managed to contact the emergency number stored in your phone. I was able to track your location, then got you here in time and made sure you received medical attention.”
Damian looked at Marcus with a serious expression. “I should be thanking you?”
Damian did not feel that he needed to be saved, not when the burden of life had already broken his spirit.
The man named Marcus lowered his head and loosened his tie.
“This is my job, but... Mr. Damian, there is something you need to know.”
“What?”
“Everyone at the company thinks you’re already dead. Your relatives are also preparing a funeral.”
Damian showed no reaction.
Marcus continued.
“News of the attack on you has already spread. The police found your car damaged at the bottom of the sea, and because you could not be reached, your family and the company concluded that you did not survive.”
Damian looked at the man.
“What about Blackwood Group?”
“They’re holding an emergency meeting.”
“For what?”
Marcus sighed.
“To determine who will take over the company.”
Damian smiled faintly.
Of course.
They had not even waited for his body to be found.
The moment they thought he was dead, they were already fighting over his seat.
“Is Celine there?”
Marcus nodded.
“She is one of the people most actively pushing for the transfer of control over the company. She holds all the company’s assets. I’m sorry, but all of this is beyond my authority as your legal counsel.”
Damian’s eyes turned cold.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Marcus then said, “Sir, I suggest that, for the time being, you do not tell anyone that you’re still alive.”
“Why?”
“Because the people who attacked you may not have gotten everything they wanted yet.”
Damian looked at him.
Marcus lowered his voice.
“If they find out you survived, I’m not sure they’ll give you a second chance. They may track you down and then...”
Damian fell silent.
“Get rid of me once again?”
The statement made sense.
If Celine was truly involved in all of this, his reappearance now would only make them panic.
And desperate people could do anything.
Damian looked toward the window once again, remembering Celine’s face as she had stabbed him without the slightest trace of guilt.
Then, after their lovemaking was over, they had wrapped Damian’s body and placed him inside a car before sending it into the sea.
There was no telling whether they would do something even more horrifying if they discovered that he was still alive.
Then a faint smile appeared on his face.
“Then don’t tell anyone.”
Marcus looked relieved.
“I’ll take care of everything. At least, I can handle the company documents so I can...”
“Marcus.”
“Yes?”
“Don’t take the company back for me.”
Marcus was stunned.
“Then what do you want to do?”
Damian slowly leaned back.
“Let them have it.”
“But, sir?”
“Let them believe they’ve won.”
Damian looked at his own hands.
He had once placed too much faith in his wealth. He had thought that as long as he had enough money and power, no one could touch him.
It turned out he was wrong.
This time, he would not make the same mistake.
He would start over without using the Blackwood name.
Without revealing his identity.
And without letting Celine know that the man she had killed was still alive.
The system screen suddenly appeared again.
Marcus couldn't see anything in front of Damian, and he was confused when he saw Damian staring at something there silently, smiling to himself.
<Next mission available.>
Damian looked at it.
<Perform one good deed worth a minimum of 50 Good Deed Points.>
<Reward: Random Skill.>
Damian's eyebrows lifted.
“Random Skill?”
<Correct.>
“Huh? What? Sorry, Sir. I don’t understand.” Marcus scratched his head even though it wasn’t itchy, still looking confused.Damian smiled.
There was a trace of excitement in Damian eyes. He was curious about the system that had been passed down to him. Could he use this system to take revenge on Celine?
He did not know how their lives would unfold.
But at least now, he had something that the people who had destroyed him did not.
A chance.
And that chance had just begun.
Elsewhere, at almost the same time, Celine was sitting in the conference room of Blackwood Group.
In front of her lay the documents transferring ownership of the company.
She picked up a pen.
Before signing the final page, Celine asked calmly,
“Has it been confirmed that Damian is really dead?”

And, most importantly, finding a way to help Angelic.The car continued moving through the city until Marcus finally stopped in front of a small café.“This place?” Damian asked as he looked through the window.Marcus nodded.“Yes, Sir. The burgers here are famous for being the best in this area.”Damian raised an eyebrow.“The best?”“Yes.”Angelic, who was sitting beside Damian, nodded slightly.“I've eaten here before. It's delicious.”Damian glanced at her. The girl lowered her eyes.“It was one of the few places I could afford lately.”Damian said nothing.They got out of the car and entered the small café.The place was simple, with only a few tables and chairs. The transparent blue screen flickered before Damian’s eyes.Damian’s eyes immediately lit up.“Then let me buy shares.”Damian rubbed his chin and thought for a moment.“What companies can I buy?”The system displayed several names, along with their current share prices and financial conditions.Damian scanned through them carefully.There were several profitable companies, but none of them caught his attention.Then his eyes stopped on one particular company.It was a shopping mall that had been struggling for years.Its revenue had continued to decline, its debts were piling up, and several major tenants had already left. Based on its current condition, most investors would consider buying its shares a terrible decision.Damian, however, smiled.“I want this one.”“Why?”
