BOOOOOOM!!

The hospital's entrance exploded inward.

Glass and concrete rained across the lobby.

Doctors and patients screamed as smoke swallowed everything.

Ethan instinctively covered his face.

When the dust settled...

A woman slowly walked through the destroyed entrance.

She wore a crimson leather coat that fluttered behind her despite the still air.

Long silver hair flowed over her shoulders.

In one hand, she carried a jet-black sword.

The blade wasn't made of metal.

It looked... alive.

Its surface pulsed like a beating heart.

Her cold crimson eyes swept across the hallway before locking onto Ethan.

She smiled.

"There you are."

The System immediately reacted.

WARNING!

Threat Detected.

Scanning Target...

A blue screen appeared.

Ethan nearly stopped breathing.

"Less than one percent...?"

The Huntress laughed softly.

"So... the Almighty Guardian System has finally chosen a new host."

She looked disappointed.

"I expected someone stronger."

Her gaze shifted to Kael.

"And you..."

"The last Guardian."

"I've waited years to watch you die."

Kael slowly stood.

His body trembled.

Blood dripped from his fingertips.

Even so...

He raised his golden spear.

"You'll never have the System."

The Huntress sighed.

"Still stubborn."

She disappeared.

WHOOSH!

Ethan blinked.

She was gone.

A split second later—

CLANG!!

The black sword collided with Kael's spear.

The impact shattered every remaining window in the hospital.

A violent shockwave ripped through the building.

Kael was pushed backward.

His feet carved deep grooves into the floor.

The Huntress didn't move an inch.

She smiled.

"You're weaker than yesterday."

Kael wiped blood from his lips.

"I'm still strong enough..."

"...to stop you."

Without warning...

The Huntress snapped her fingers.

The shadows behind Ethan began to move.

One...

Two...

Ten...

Twenty...

Dark figures slowly climbed out of the shadows on the walls.

They had no faces.

Only glowing red eyes.

Ethan's stomach dropped.

"So many..."

The System answered.

Shadow Servants.

Created by the Hunters.

Recommended Action: RUN.

The creatures rushed toward Ethan.

He clenched his fists.

"I can't beat all of them!"

Emergency Mission Activated.

Emergency Mission

Defeat one Shadow Servant.

Reward:

Guardian Blade Technique Lv.1

+20 Guardian Points

Failure:

Death

"Only one?"

The first creature lunged.

Its claws sliced toward Ethan's throat.

Instinct took over.

He ducked.

The attack missed by centimeters.

Another creature attacked from behind.

Ethan spun around and punched it with all his strength.

BAM!

The Shadow Servant exploded into black smoke.

Mission Complete.

Reward Granted.

A flood of knowledge poured into Ethan's mind.

Sword techniques.

Footwork.

Battle instincts.

It felt as though he had trained for years.

Meanwhile...

Kael was losing.

The Crimson Huntress slashed his shoulder.

Blood sprayed across the floor.

Then she kicked him into a wall.

BOOM!

The wall collapsed instantly.

Kael struggled to stand.

His breathing had become ragged.

The Huntress pointed her black sword at Ethan.

"Enough games."

"The System belongs to us."

She raised her hand.

The black sword floated into the air.

Dark energy gathered around its tip.

The entire hospital began shaking.

The System screamed.

WARNING!

Fatal Attack Incoming!

Kael's eyes widened.

"No..."

"She's using that technique..."

He looked at Ethan.

There was no fear in his eyes anymore.

Only determination.

"Ethan!"

"Listen carefully!"

"The System chose you because your heart is different from mine."

"I protected the world..."

"...with strength."

"You..."

"...must protect it with hope."

Before Ethan could respond...

Kael gripped his golden spear with both hands.

His body began glowing.

Brighter...

Brighter...

Until he looked like a second sun.

The Huntress's smile disappeared.

"No..."

"You wouldn't..."

Kael smiled at Ethan one last time.

"Live long enough..."

"...to become the Guardian I never could."

Then he whispered—

"Guardian's Final Sacrifice."

Golden light swallowed the entire hospital.

The world turned white.

And just before Ethan lost consciousness...

The System displayed a single message.

Guardian Kael has transferred his remaining power to the Host.

  • The Woman Behind the Door

Chapter 35: "Ethan..." The voice came again. Soft. Faint. Almost like a memory. But Ethan knew it. His mother's voice. He stood frozen before the Guardian Vault. For years, he had convinced himself that he had accepted her death. He had buried the memories. He had learned to live without her. And now, after all these years, that familiar voice had returned. "Ethan..." He stepped toward the door. Sophia immediately caught his arm. "Wait." Ethan looked at her. "That's my mother." "You don't know that." "I know her voice." Sophia didn't release him. • The Woman in the Photograph

Chapter 34: Ethan didn't sleep. He spent the entire night sitting in the control room. The words continued repeating in his mind. Your mother never died. It was impossible. At least, that's what he had always believed. He remembered the funeral. The flowers. The black clothes. His father's tears. The photograph placed beside the coffin. He remembered being told that she had died from an illness. He had been too young to understand. But now... Everything was suddenly questionable. At six in the morning, Sophia found him. She didn't say anything at first. She simply placed a cup of coffee beside him. Ethan looked up. "You heard." Sophia nodded. "I heard." "What do you think?" She sat beside him. "I think we need evidence." Ethan looked toward the screen. "I know." "Not hope." "Not rumors." "Evidence." He nodded. "You're right." Sophia smiled. "You're learning." Ethan gave her a tired look. "You say that a lot." "Because it's true." Grace entered t

Chapter 33: Ethan couldn't move. For several seconds, he simply stared. Marcus Vale stood in the dimly lit warehouse as if he belonged there. His black coat was perfectly dry despite the rain outside. His expression was calm. Almost amused. And beside him stood Lily. But it wasn't Lily's presence that frightened Ethan the most. It was the fact that Marcus was standing inside the shelter's outer security zone. A place no outsider should have been able to enter. Sophia immediately stepped in front of Ethan, her spear glowing faintly. "Stay behind me." Marcus smiled. "Still protective, I see." Sophia's expression hardened. "How did you get inside?" Marcus didn't answer. Instead, he loo
