The golden shield shattered into thousands of glowing fragments.

BOOM!

The impact sent Ethan sliding several meters across the hospital floor.

His ears rang.

His vision blurred.

But one thing was clear...

The Shadow Devourer had stopped attacking.

For the first time...

It looked afraid.

The hooded man slowly walked forward.

Each step echoed through the ruined hallway.

Tap...

Tap...

Tap...

The golden spear in his hand radiated an overwhelming aura.

The Shadow Devourer let out a furious roar.

ROOOAAARRR!!

Instead of charging...

It took another step backward.

Ethan frowned.

"It's... scared?"

The System immediately responded.

Guardian Database Activated...

Scanning Target...

Identity Found.

A blue screen appeared.

Guardian Profile

Name: Kael

Title: The Last Guardian

Guardian Rank: SSS

Status: Severely Injured

Survival Chance: 12%

Ethan's eyes widened.

"SSS Rank?"

Before he could ask another question...

Kael spoke.

"You've finally awakened."

His voice was calm.

"But you're much weaker than I expected."

Ethan felt embarrassed.

"I only got the System today."

Kael nodded.

"I know."

"You've only survived because the System chose to protect you."

Without warning...

The Shadow Devourer attacked again.

Its gigantic claws tore through the air.

WHOOSH!!

Kael didn't even move.

He simply lifted one finger.

CLANG!

The monster's claws froze in midair.

An invisible force had stopped them.

"What...?"

Ethan stared in disbelief.

Kael sighed.

"Pathetic."

He spun his golden spear once.

A blinding beam of light shot forward.

BOOOOOOM!!

The hospital windows exploded outward.

The Shadow Devourer screamed as one of its arms was completely erased.

Not cut off.

Erased.

Like it had never existed.

The monster staggered backward in agony.

Ethan could barely breathe.

"Is this what a real Guardian can do?"

Kael lowered his spear.

"This isn't power."

"It's merely experience."

Suddenly...

Kael coughed.

Blood splashed onto the floor.

Dark blood.

Almost black.

The System alarm sounded.

WARNING!

Guardian Kael's life force is collapsing.

The Shadow Devourer noticed.

Its glowing eyes lit up with excitement.

It had realized something.

Kael was dying.

The monster laughed.

A horrible voice echoed through the hallway.

"Guardian..."

"You're weaker than before."

Kael smiled faintly.

"I know."

"You've been hunting me for twenty years."

Twenty years?

Ethan looked at Kael in shock.

The Shadow Devourer suddenly split into three identical copies.

Each one charged from a different direction.

Kael closed his eyes.

Then whispered...

"One final strike..."

The spear shone brighter than the sun.

Golden lightning covered the entire hospital.

Every window within a hundred meters shattered instantly.

Even the clouds above the city split apart.

Kael thrust the spear forward.

SKY PIERCER!

BOOOOOOOOOOM!!

A pillar of golden light shot into the heavens.

The three monsters screamed together.

Then...

They disappeared.

Silence.

Complete silence.

The hospital lights flickered back on.

Doctors cautiously stepped into the hallway.

Everything looked... normal.

The broken walls.

The damaged ceiling.

But there was no monster.

No golden light.

No evidence of what had just happened.

Only Ethan...

And Kael.

Kael dropped to one knee.

His breathing became shallow.

Blood continued flowing from his mouth.

Ethan rushed over.

"You're hurt!"

Kael smiled.

"No..."

"My time simply ran out."

He looked directly into Ethan's eyes.

"Listen carefully."

"The Shadow Devourer wasn't hunting you."

"It was hunting..."

"The Almighty Guardian System."

Ethan froze.

"What do you mean?"

Kael's expression became serious.

"Because the System is the key..."

"The key to opening the Gate of Eternity."

Before Ethan could ask another question...

The System suddenly interrupted.

URGENT WARNING!

A second hostile presence has entered the hospital.

Kael's smile disappeared.

"...Impossible."

"I thought they were extinct."

A loud explosion echoed from outside.

BOOOOOOM!!

The entire hospital shook violently.

Then...

A cold female voice echoed through the night.

"Hand over the System... and I'll let the boy die quickly."

Kael's face turned pale.

He whispered only three words.

"The Hunters found us..."

  • The Woman Behind the Door

Chapter 35: "Ethan..." The voice came again. Soft. Faint. Almost like a memory. But Ethan knew it. His mother's voice. He stood frozen before the Guardian Vault. For years, he had convinced himself that he had accepted her death. He had buried the memories. He had learned to live without her. And now, after all these years, that familiar voice had returned. "Ethan..." He stepped toward the door. Sophia immediately caught his arm. "Wait." Ethan looked at her. "That's my mother." "You don't know that." "I know her voice." Sophia didn't release him. • The Woman in the Photograph

Chapter 34: Ethan didn't sleep. He spent the entire night sitting in the control room. The words continued repeating in his mind. Your mother never died. It was impossible. At least, that's what he had always believed. He remembered the funeral. The flowers. The black clothes. His father's tears. The photograph placed beside the coffin. He remembered being told that she had died from an illness. He had been too young to understand. But now... Everything was suddenly questionable. At six in the morning, Sophia found him. She didn't say anything at first. She simply placed a cup of coffee beside him. Ethan looked up. "You heard." Sophia nodded. "I heard." "What do you think?" She sat beside him. "I think we need evidence." Ethan looked toward the screen. "I know." "Not hope." "Not rumors." "Evidence." He nodded. "You're right." Sophia smiled. "You're learning." Ethan gave her a tired look. "You say that a lot." "Because it's true." Grace entered t

Chapter 33: Ethan couldn't move. For several seconds, he simply stared. Marcus Vale stood in the dimly lit warehouse as if he belonged there. His black coat was perfectly dry despite the rain outside. His expression was calm. Almost amused. And beside him stood Lily. But it wasn't Lily's presence that frightened Ethan the most. It was the fact that Marcus was standing inside the shelter's outer security zone. A place no outsider should have been able to enter. Sophia immediately stepped in front of Ethan, her spear glowing faintly. "Stay behind me." Marcus smiled. "Still protective, I see." Sophia's expression hardened. "How did you get inside?" Marcus didn't answer. Instead, he loo
