The girl from earlier stood behind Alastor, her face pale with worry. She tugged lightly at his sleeve, voice trembling.

“L-let it go… They’re too many. You’ll get hurt.”

Alastor didn’t even turn to look at her.

His gaze remained fixed on the secretary.

Miss Lane scoffed. “What, are you scared now? Backing out?”

Alastor’s voice cut through her words like a knife.

“Who gave you the authority to treat people like trash in Arthur Tempest’s building?”

The entire lobby froze.

Miss Lane’s composure cracked instantly. Color rushed to her cheeks — humiliation and fury.

“You bastard—!” She spun toward the guards. “Take him down. If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility!”

Gasps erupted around the room.

“Is she insane?”

“Someone’s gonna get hurt!”

“Has Tempest Enterprise started abusing civilians now?”

Miss Lane turned on the crowd, eyes blazing.

“Anyone filming… delete it or I’ll personally sue you! If you don’t want broken bones, scatter!”

People backed away quickly. Phones lowered.

The girl gripped her bag tightly and whispered again.

“You should go. Please. It’s my fault, don’t get involved…”

Alastor didn’t even blink.

People murmured, annoyed that a corporation would treat visitors like trash.

Miss Lane ignored them and walked to the elevator without looking back.

She entered Arthur Tempest’s office. He had his sleeves rolled up, glasses on, reviewing a financial model. He was rather focused.

“You’re late,” he said, still writing.

She placed the file in front of him and stood behind his chair. Her hands rested lightly on his shoulders — not romantic, but familiar, like someone who had crossed a professional boundary more than once. He didn’t push her away.

“You should let the team handle more work,” she said. “You take too much on yourself.”

He adjusted his glasses. “What happened downstairs?”

She answered casually, assuming it wasn’t important. “Some guy tried to demand a meeting with you. Security is on it. No need to worry.”

Arthur stopped writing.

“Who?”

She hesitated. “He told the receptionist that you were supposed to come down. Said his name was Alastor.”

Before she could say another word, he turned toward her….

SLAP!

The sound echoed through the room, Lane held her cheek, dumbfounded.

Furious, Arthur pointed at her. “Go downstairs with me and apologize. Now. Or I’ll shoot you where you stand.”

Miss Lane went pale and her confidence vanished instantly. She knew exactly what kind of man he really was. Not the polite CEO everyone saw, but the one who controlled the entire city from the shadows. People didn’t cross him… and lived.

Her stomach twisted. But she swallowed hard. “Y-yes, sir,” she whispered.

Terrified, she fell into step behind him as he turned toward the elevator. Every click of her heels on the floor felt deafening. She kept her head down, afraid to look at him. Even breathing was a problem, knowing there was a chance he could blow her brains out any second from now.

Arthur didn’t say a word. She could feel his presence behind her, heavy and unyielding, like a warning.

As the elevator doors closed, she gripped her folder so tightly her knuckles ached. She had no choice but to follow. Fear coursed through her veins with every step she took, her mind replaying all the stories she’d heard about what happened to those who crossed him.

She stayed just behind him, silent and trembling, completely aware that nothing would go right for her today only unless he allowed it.

Downstairs, the scene was chaotic. Several guards groaned on the floor, clutching their bruises, while Alastor stood in the center, completely unharmed, daring the remaining ones to come at him. A few bystanders, eager for gossip, even pulled out their phones to film.

Then Arthur Temprest arrived. His eyes widened as he took in the mess: guards sprawled on the floor, Alastor standing calm, and the onlookers recording everything. His jaw tightened, and for a moment, the air seemed to hum with the weight of his presence.

“Stop!” he barked, his voice echoing through the lobby. The murmurs and camera clicks died instantly.

Alastor stood unharmed while the girl stayed a little behind him.

Arthur walked straight to Alastor.

He bowed his head slightly and spoke clearly so everyone heard:

“I apologize for the conduct of my secretary. She acted without authorization. I accept full responsibility.”

Miss Lane looked down, embarrassed.

The lobby fell completely silent. Bystanders froze, guards gaped, and even those filming stopped mid-recording.

Alastor remained still, expression unreadable, as Arthur’s apology echoed through the space

The girl approached Alastor and spoke, quietly enough not to start another situation.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to protect me like that.”

Alastor looked at her, steady and calm. “Are you leaving already?”

She nodded. “I’ve caused enough trouble. I’ll step out.”

He didn’t argue and she walked away.

A week had passed since Alastor enrolled at Blackwood University. Now, as Leo Vance, he walked through the main gates on his official first day.The campus was exactly what he'd expected. Old brick buildings, perfectly maintained lawns, students in designer clothes lounging on benches like they owned the place.Because most of them did, in a way.His white hair drew stares immediately. Whispers followed him as he passed groups clustered near the entrance."Who's that?""Transfer student, I think.""Weird hair."Alastor—Leo—ignored them. He'd spent ten years training to read environments, to assess threats, to understand power structures at a glance.Blackwood's hierarchy was painfully obvious. The rich kids gathered in the center of the courtyard. Designer bags, expensive watches, voices loud and confident. They looked at everyone else like furniture. The scholarship students stayed at the edges. Quieter. Heads down. They moved through campus like they were trying not to be noticed.T

Seraphina blinked and turned away from the door."What?"Fedora exchanged a look with Gina, both of them grinning."Oh, nothing," Fedora said, drawing out the word. "Just wondering if you're daydreaming about your mysterious fiancé."Gina laughed. "I bet she's imagining what he looks like. Tall? Dark? Handsome?""Probably some old man with more money than personality," Fedora added.Seraphina's jaw tightened. "I'm not thinking about him.""Sure you're not," Gina said, leaning in. "That's why you've been staring into space for the past five minutes.""I said I'm not."Fedora raised her hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. We believe you."They didn't.Seraphina turned back to her notes, pretending to focus on the assignment in front of her."Honestly," she said flatly, "I don't care who he is."Fedo

Arthur skimmed through the files on his screen, tapping his fingers lightly against his chin.“Well… should it really matter right now?”Alastor raised a brow. “What do you mean?”Arthur leaned back in his chair. “I mean the Belmond girl. Whatever connection there is, we can deal with it later. Right now, we need to get you into the university.”Alastor was quiet for a moment. Then he nodded. “Fine.”Arthur turned the screen slightly so Alastor could see.“Chloe Everstone,” he said. “Blackwood University. Second year.”Alastor’s eyes stayed on the name.“She’s on scholarship,” Arthur added. “Same situation as before. No safety net. If she loses it, she’s out.”“I see” Alastor said.Arthur glanced at him. “That’s why you want to be close.”“Yes.”Arthur exhaled. “Then you can’t go in as yourself.”“I’m aware.”“We’ll register you as a transfer student,” Arthur continued. “You’ll go in with a different name.”Alastor didn’t answer immediately.“Leo,” he said.Arthur looked up. “Just Leo

Arthur stilled for a moment, trying to recall the name. “Chloe Everstone… why does that sound familiar?”“She should be around eighteen or nineteen now,” Alastor said. “Ten years ago, she lived with her mother in a small apartment near Eastbrook.”Arthur’s eyes widened. “Eastbrook? That area burned down years ago.”Alastor’s jaw tightened. “I know. That’s where everything started.”Arthur didn’t speak, waiting quietly. Alastor’s gaze drifted toward the window, but he wasn’t seeing the city — he was seeing the past.“She and her mother saved my life,” Alastor said. His voice was steady, but the words carried weight. “After the fire, I had nothing. Nowhere to go. I was… done. Ready to let fate finish me.”Arthur swallowed hard, his face darkening.“They found me,” Alastor continued. “Dragged me in. Treated me. Fed me. They acted like I wasn’t just some stranger who crawled out of a burning house.”He paused, remembering.“Her mother… She was strict. But Chloe…” A faint breath escaped hi
