Alastor picked up the card from the bin she’d thrown it into. He didn’t expect that. For a moment he just stood there, staring at the card. He’d thought leaving her a way to reach him was the right thing to do. Apparently, it hadn’t mattered.

He slipped the card into his pocket and walked out of the hotel. The afternoon air was hot and loud. He flagged a taxi and climbed in.

“Where to?” the driver asked.

“Tempest Enterprise,” Alastor said.

The driver kept glancing at Alastor through the rearview mirror, sizing him up again and again. Wrinkled T-shirt. Cheap hoodie. No luggage. No watch. No jewelry.

This guy was definitely not someone who worked anywhere near the financial district.

“That big company downtown?” the driver repeated, eyebrows lifting. “Tempest Enterprise? You sure you’re heading to the right place?”

“Yes,” Alastor said calmly.

The driver gave a short laugh. “You got a meeting there or something?”

“No.” Alastor’s tone was steady, almost bored. “I’m just going to take a look. The CEO actually works for me.”

The cab suddenly filled with silence.

Then the driver burst out laughing, clutching his stomach and wiping-his-eyes.

“Oh man—don’t do that,” he wheezed. “I almost swerved. You? That guy’s boss? Bro, the cheapest thing in that building is the doorknob, and I’m pretty sure it costs more than your whole outfit.”

Alastor remained expressionless.

The driver kept going, amused by his own voice.

“Look, I’ve driven my fair share of dreamers. Actors, influencers, people who think they’re gonna be the next tech billionaire. But you….” He pointed at Alastor’s reflection in the mirror. “....you might be my favorite. The confidence is insane.”

Alastor sighed, leaning back. “Just drive.”

“Yeah, yeah,” the driver muttered, pulling into traffic. “Next thing you’ll tell me, you own half the city. Maybe you’re a secret prince. Maybe you’re—hell, I dunno—the president of the United States?”

Alastor stared out the window as if he hadn’t heard a word.

The driver shook his head. “Man… some kids really live in fantasy land.”

New York rolled past them in neon streaks and headlights, skyscrapers towering like cold sentinels, crowds rushing past each other in the rain-damp streets. The driver kept glancing at Alastor, still annoyed and convinced he was driving a delusional nobody.

Alastor didn’t bother explaining.

Tempest Enterprise was the first stop. That was all he needed for now.

After getting out of the cab, Alastor stood for a moment, taking in the towering glass building. Tempest Enterprise. The name gleamed across the front in bold silver letters. A small smile tugged at his lips. “Not bad,” he murmured.

He walked through the revolving doors, but before he could get any farther, the receptionist looked up and stopped him with a polite, practiced smile. “Excuse me, sir. Do you have an appointment?”

Alastor shook his head. “No. But you can call Arthur Tempest. Tell him I’ll wait for him here.”

The woman blinked, unsure if she’d heard right. Around them, a few people turned to stare.

The name Arthur Tempest wasn’t something you tossed around lightly, he was one of the most powerful men in the city. And yet this plainly dressed young man said it as casually as if he were asking for a friend.

The receptionist hesitated, her professional smile faltering.

“Sir… do you mean Mr. Tempest, the CEO?”

Alastor nodded once. “That’s the one.”

The whisper spread through the lobby almost instantly. A few guests exchanged looks, some amused, others pitying. To them, he was just another delusional kid trying to bluff his way into a billion-dollar company.

Alastor didn’t seem to notice. He simply found a seat in the waiting area and crossed his arms, settling in like someone who belonged there.

But she didn’t finish.

A commotion broke out near the elevator — raised voices.

A girl stumbled forward as someone shoved her.

A tall woman in a fitted black suit stood in front of her, posture sharp and cold. This was the secretary — Miss Lane.

“You useless thing,” the secretary snapped. “You messed up the filing again! Do I have to repeat myself every single day? Get out of my sight and don’t even think about coming back without the corrected forms!”

The girl flushed, biting her lip, visibly shaking as she held back tears.

No one in the lobby moved to help.

Alastor’s brows lowered.

He stood.

He stepped toward them.

“For an old hag, you seem to like pushing people alot” This wasn’t his usual style but Alastor wanted to ensure whoever that lady was… got humiliated.

A few people chuckled at the comment

The secretary whipped around, glaring.

“And who the hell are you? Who allowed you to walk in here?”

The receptionist stuttered.

“I—I’m sorry, Miss Lane… he said—he demanded—he insisted on—”

Miss Lane scoffed loudly, humiliated at being embarrassed in front of so many eyes.

“Oh, so now random nobodies get to stroll in here like they own the place? Security!”

Her voice boomed across the lobby.

Two security guards immediately began walking toward Alastor.

Alastor didn’t even look at them.

His attention stayed focused on the secretary.

“You push her again,” he said quietly, “and you’ll regret it.”

The air in the lobby froze.

Miss Lane stared at him like he had lost his mind.

“You think you can talk to me like that? You’ll be thrown out of this building in less than sixty seconds!”

Suddenly she turned to the receptionist

Miss Lane’s expression changed in an instant. “As for you….” Her voice cut through the lobby, sharp and incredulous. “Do you think he’s someone anyone can just walk in and demand to see? Today he’s sought, tomorrow she’s sought—, hat about the day after that? If you can’t tell who to let through, maybe you’d be better off working in the warehouse!”

The receptionist’s face turned pale. “I—I’m sorry, Miss Lane…”

Miss Lane exhaled slowly, forcing her composure back, then turned to Alastor. “Sir, I advise you to be sensible and leave quietly.”

She crossed her arms, watching Alastor with cool detachment. “The security here isn’t just for show,” she added.

At her signal, the two uniformed guards took a stance towards him, waiting for her word.

Whispers followed him as he passed groups clustered near the entrance."Who's that?""Transfer student, I think.""Weird hair."Alastor—Leo—ignored them. He'd spent ten years training to read environments, to assess threats, to understand power structures at a glance.Blackwood's hierarchy was painfully obvious. The rich kids gathered in the center of the courtyard. Designer bags, expensive watches, voices loud and confident. They looked at everyone else like furniture. The scholarship students stayed at the edges. Quieter. Heads down. They moved through campus like they were trying not to be noticed.T

"Just wondering if you're daydreaming about your mysterious fiancé."Gina laughed. "I bet she's imagining what he looks like. Tall? Dark? Arthur skimmed through the files on his screen, tapping his fingers lightly against his chin.“Well… should it really matter right now?”Alastor raised a brow. “What do you mean?”Arthur leaned back in his chair. “I mean the Belmond girl. Whatever connection there is, we can deal with it later. Right now, we need to get you into the university.”Alastor was quiet for a moment. Then he nodded. “Fine.”Arthur turned the screen slightly so Alastor could see.“Chloe Everstone,” he said. “Blackwood University. Second year.”Alastor’s eyes stayed on the name.“She’s on scholarship,” Arthur added. “Same situation as before. No safety net. If she loses it, she’s out.”“I see” Alastor said.Arthur glanced at him. “That’s why you want to be close.”“Yes.”Arthur exhaled. “Then you can’t go in as yourself.”“I’m aware.”“We’ll register you as a transfer student,” Arthur continued. “You’ll go in with a different name.”Alastor didn’t answer immediately.“Leo,” he said.Arthur looked up. “Just Leo

Arthur stilled for a moment, trying to recall the name. “Chloe Everstone… why does that sound familiar?”“She should be around eighteen or nineteen now,” Alastor said. “Ten years ago, she lived with her mother in a small apartment near Eastbrook.”Arthur’s eyes widened. “Eastbrook? That area burned down years ago.”Alastor’s jaw tightened. “I know. That’s where everything started.”Arthur didn’t speak, waiting quietly. Alastor’s gaze drifted toward the window, but he wasn’t seeing the city — he was seeing the past.“She and her mother saved my life,” Alastor said. His voice was steady, but the words carried weight. “After the fire, I had nothing. Nowhere to go. I was… done. Ready to let fate finish me.”Arthur swallowed hard, his face darkening.“They found me,” Alastor continued. “Dragged me in. Treated me. Fed me. They acted like I wasn’t just some stranger who crawled out of a burning house.”He paused, remembering.“Her mother… She was strict. But Chloe…” A faint breath escaped hi
