Quincy sat quietly, waiting for his classmates to arrive. The advancement exam would take place in two days. Any student who failed to reach Spirit Initiate, Stage Six, would be forced to repeat Class One.

Moments later, Ashley Lin entered with Barry Tan, followed closely by Balthus Chin. They immediately began telling Quincy how the chaos at the library had shaken the entire Institute. Overnight, Balthus had become a sensation—known as the boy who fought and nearly bested Blake Morrow, the model student of Class 1B.

Apparently, when Blake shifted the fight toward the back of the library, dozens of curious students had secretly followed. They had not only witnessed the duel but also caught a glimpse of the mysterious cloaked figure—the Lightbringer—who stopped Balthus. None of them realized it had been Quincy himself.

Now, everywhere in the Institute, gossip swirled: what was the relationship between Balthus Chin and this so-called Lightbringer?

Ashley Lin accepted the bottle of elixir Quincy handed her and drank it down in one gulp.Quincy leapt lightly onto the desk, using it as a springboard, and landed behind her.“Brace yourself,” he said calmly.Placing both palms over her ears, green light seeped into Ashley’s ear canals, threading its way into the nerves. With practiced precision, he positioned his thumb and forefinger just behind her ear lobes, rotating gently.Ashley shut her eyes, feeling the warmth build inside her head. Then Quincy slipped his pinky finger into her ear canal, pulsing spiritual energy through.Moments later, he withdrew and asked softly,“Can you hear me now?”Ashley’s eyes flew open. She gasped—and then threw her arms around Quincy.“Thank you!” she cried. Turning to her classmates, she raised a fist.“From this day on, no one will ever trample us again. We’ll fight together, for the Advancement Exam!”The others raised their fists to meet hers, pressing knuckles together before thrusting their h

  • 26. The Merchant’s Son

Moments earlier, at Mr. Liet’s residence, Neil Li sensed a surge of foreign power. He lifted his gaze to the sky, faintly glimpsing a swell of dark aura over the library.“The darkness has awakened… which means the Dark Heir has lost control!” His expression hardened. Without hesitation, he snatched up a brown cloak for disguise and hurried out.“Cresty, help me find the boy!”“Ka-kak-too-a!” squawked the parrot in reply.“If you find him, bring him to that great tree!” Neil pointed toward a towering oak not far from the residence. They split ways. Cresty was the first to spot Quincy in the girls’ dormitory.“Ka-kak-too-a! Ka-kak-too-a!” the parrot cried, its voice carrying urgency.“Cresty!” Quincy’s eyes widened. He had only copied half the book, but Cresty’s arrival meant something serious had happened.“Ah, I almost forgot—I still have something to do before Mr. Liet returns. Farewell, Ann Chang!” Quincy bolted from the room before she could ask questions. He looked up and spotted

Ann Chang slowly opened her eyes, astonishment flashing across her face as she felt her legs move freely. Tears welled as joy overwhelmed her.“Is this real?” she whispered, stomping her feet lightly, jumping, even pinching her arm to ensure it wasn’t a dream. “It’s real! I can move!”“Of course it’s real,” Quincy Dungsworth said, grinning. “I’ve studied medicine well.”“Thank you! Thank you so much!” Ann Chang bowed over and over in gratitude.“Now,” Quincy said, “you can walk to the library and join the others.”Ann Chang tilted her head mischievously. “Hmm… maybe I’ll surprise them instead. I borrowed a book on wind spiritual power yesterday. I’ll train with it in the dorms.”“Oh, you borrowed that book? Can I copy it?”“Copy it?” she blinked. “Then… you’ve already awakened a Spiritual Core?!”“Uh— I’ll just collect it,” Quincy stammered, scratching his head awkwardly.“That’s actually a great idea! If we copy the books, we won’t need to borrow them again.”Together, they began tra

Quincy Dungsworth’s face flushed red. His lips pressed tight, fists clenching. Just as he was about to step forward, Balthus Chin extended a hand to stop him.“Save your strength, friend. Let me teach them a lesson.”A dark sphere shot out, slamming into Jiro Flint’s backside.“Wha—?!” Jiro yelped, leaping as pain exploded across his rear. He spun around, clutching his buttocks—his trousers had ripped wide open, exposing pale flesh beneath the torn threads.“Aaaargh! Who did this?!” he roared, covering himself with both hands. Mortified, he bolted toward the dormitory to change his clothes. The moment Jiro disappeared, the Class 1C students who had been holding in their laughter erupted.“Ha ha ha ha!”Quincy and Balthus joined in, grinning in satisfaction. But when the Class 1C boys realized who had done it, their laughter twisted into scowls.“So it was you!” one snarled, pointing at Balthus.“Correct.” Balthus smirked. “Want to feel the same?” He spread his arms, a hundred orbs of

Quincy Dungsworth’s classmates had no idea he had already surpassed the Second Realm.“I’ll give them a little surprise later,” he whispered to Balthus Chin.“Hey, everyone! Why don’t you take Balthus around the Institute? It’s huge—he’ll get lost if he wanders on his own. If I could guide him, I’d be closer to him already,” said Barry Tan, the blind boy. He knew his limits, so he asked the others to befriend Balthus in his place. But the room fell silent. Quincy understood. Ann Chang limped on a crippled leg and could barely walk far. Ashley Lin was deaf—conversation with her often left people frustrated, as she couldn’t respond normally. So Quincy rose from his seat. “I’ll go with him.”His three classmates sighed in relief, grateful for his thoughtfulness. Quincy led Balthus out of the classroom. Yet showing him around wasn’t so simple. Just a few steps out, they crossed paths with Blake Morrow. This time, the boy from Class 1B ignored them. But his two lackeys didn’t let Quincy pa
