The Legendary Hairfall System

CHAPTER 04

Elmond’s plan was to prove that Jake was a loser who wouldn’t even be chosen by any system in the repository.

However, right now, Elmond just stood baffled and unmoving like a tree.

For many years, he had tried to be chosen by the Shedding System.

He was able to make every other system in the chamber to choose him at least once, but this Shedding System was the only system which didn’t choose him.

So, he even called it the Supreme Shedding system, hoping that his praises would work.

But that didn’t help, either.

The same was the case for Delma.

The Shedding System didn’t choose her, either. There was a time when Delma tried to swallow the bark as it was a small object. However, the bark’s taste turned so bad she ended up vomiting it out.

No matter what methods they used, the Shedding System didn’t respond to them. They even tried coaxing with other systems, but that failed, too.

But now, some random guy, who didn’t seem special at all, was chosen by the Shedding system?

While Elmond had been waiting for the Shedding system to choose someone, he sure as heaven didn’t expect it to be the runaway guy.

“D-Do you feel anything?” Elmond asked, still finding it hard to accept.

“Not really,” Jake said and approached another item on the shelf, but when touched that necklace, he received a faint shock. “What the…” he was taken aback. “I just received a shock.”

Elmond’s expression changed for the worse. “So it really has chosen you.”

“Again, you’re saying the same thing. What chose me?”

“The Shedding System….” Elmond said in a firm voice, “but it’s also infamously called the legendary hairfall system.”

“System? You mean, a computer system? A code?”

“No, you fool! These are much more advanced, ancient systems,” Elmond barked, approaching the shelf and putting a bracelet on. “For instance, this bracelet helps especially with your agility.” He began to gyrate on the tip of his toe and turned it into a dance. He danced like an experienced, 30 year old dancer at his peak.

But that was when Emond upped his game and suddenly vanished from Jake’s sight.

“What?” Jake was momentarily stunned. “Where did he go?”

“I’m right here,” Elmond was standing right behind Jake, holding back his urge to kill Jake by cutting his head off.

Jake stepped back in fright. “Y-You scared me!” His eyes grew large. “How did you do that?”

“With this bracelet,” Elmond said, his gaze still sharp. “You may not understand what I’m saying now, but when the Shedding system starts interacting with you, you’ll get everything. There’s no reason left for you to be staying here anymore as you got the best system already, so let’s go back. I wonder how Delma is going to react to this news.”

Jake still looked to be in shock.

The speed at which Elmond had to move to appear behind him in a flash… was that humanly possible to do so?

He felt like a new dimension just opened up in his life.

Elmond then brought Jake out of the secret chamber and back up to the main building.

Elmond took Jake straight to Delma’s room.

Delma was resting on her emperor-size bed.

Before they even knocked on the door, she said, “Come inside.”

Elmond was the first to enter. “Delma, you won’t believe this, but he was chosen by the Shedding system.”

“Stop joking, Grandpa,” Delma was reading a weight-loss related book.

“I’m not joking.”

“Mm?” Delma looked at Jake, who was purposely picking his nose to make her hate him, and shook her head. “No, he’s not chosen.”

Elmond pinched Jake’s arm. “Do something. Ask the system to start operating.”

“Ugh, okay,” Jake said out loud. “If you can hear me, then start working, Shedding System.”

[Are you sure?]

A voice rang in his mind, startling him.

“I-I just heard a voice in my head!” Jake quickly said.

“That’s the system. Keep talking,” Elmond hurriedly said.

Delma closed the book and kept staring at Jake with intrigue.

“Yes, let’s work together,” Jake uttered.

[So be it.]

Jake suddenly felt a surge of pain coursing through his whole body. And his hair started falling pretty fast.

“W-What the hell? What’s going on? Why is my hair…” he freaked out, his heart hammering against his chest. “Why is my hair falling?”

“Uh, I didn’t tell you this, but the owner of the Shedding system will have to sacrifice their hair, for the most part,” Elmond replied rather calmly. “That’s why it’s also known as the legendary hairfall system!”

“Are you kidding me? Why didn’t you tell me that before?!” Jake looked around and ran to the mirror. “No, no, no,” every strand of hair was falling from his head.

He tried putting it back on his head, but it’s not sticking.

Tears started rolling from his eyes, which made Elmond laugh out loud.

“This can’t be happening to me! Please stop!” Jake cried like a baby. “System! Give my hair back now, or I’ll kill you!”

[If you threaten me again,  you’ll lose your eyebrows, too.] The system responded, making Jake go silent for a second.

Soon, he continued crying while looking at himself in the mirror.

“This isn’t real,” Jake mumbled. “This must be a dream! A nightmare!”
