CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENKelvin was falling.There was no ground.No walls.No sound.Only darkness.He tried to move his arms.Nothing happened.He tried to shout.No sound came out.Then a light appeared below him.He looked down.A small child stood in the middle of the darkness.Kelvin stopped falling.The child looked familiar.Too familiar.Kelvin stared at him.the semblance it beared with him was uncanny.A younger version of himself perhaps Maybe six years old.The child was standing alone.His clothes dirty.His face covered with tears.Kelvin slowly moved toward him.“Kelvin?”The child looked up.“Who are you?”Kelvin stopped.“I’m…”He couldn't finish.The child stared at him.“You look like a lot like me.”Kelvin nodded.“I know.”“Are you here to save me?”Kelvin's chest tightened.“I don't know.”The child looked down.“They always say someone is coming.”“Who?”“The people.”Kelvin looked around.“What people?”The child pointed behind him.Kelvin turned.

Darkness.Kelvin could not see anything.He could not hear Gale.He could not hear Jacob.He could not even hear his own footsteps.He stood completely still.“Vella?”His voice disappeared into the darkness.No answer.Kelvin took another step.The floor beneath him suddenly lit up.A circle appeared under his feet.Then another.Then another.Six circles surrounded him.The seventh remained black.Kelvin looked down.His pendant was glowing.“You came.”Kelvin turned.Vella stood behind him.She looked exactly as he remembered.But something was different.She looked tired.Older.Almost like she had been waiting for him for years.Kelvin stared at her.“You knew I would come.”“Yes.”“You knew about the laboratory.”“Yes.”“You knew about Subject Eight.”Vella lowered her eyes.“Yes.”Kelvin's anger rose.“You knew everything.”“I did.”“Then why did you lie to me?”Vella looked at him.“Because the truth would have killed you.”Kelvin stepped closer.“I've already been lied to eno

“What was that?”Nobody answered.Another heavy movement came from behind the metal walls.BOOM.Dust fell from the ceiling.Jacob stepped back.“That thing is inside the walls.”Gale tightened his grip on his wooden staff.“No.”Kelvin looked at him.“You know what it is.”Gale stared at the sealed chamber.“I know what they were trying to make.”The lights above them turned red.A voice filled the laboratory.“TERMINATION PROTOCOL ACTIVE.”“SUBJECT SEVEN IDENTIFIED.”“SUBJECT EIGHT RELEASE AUTHORIZED.”Kelvin looked toward the glass container.Subject Eight was no longer inside it.The glass had cracked.Then it exploded.Everyone raised their arms as shards flew across the room.Kelvin moved in front of Jacob and Leisa.Adrian grabbed Gale and pulled him away.A figure stepped through the smoke.Subject Eight.He looked young.Too young.His face was almost identical to Kelvin’s.But his eyes were different.Cold.Empty.He looked directly at Kelvin.“You should have stayed away.”
