“If you remember, Rayendra witnessed the death of my brother, his father. He was the only one who knew who hurt them until Rayendra got a gunshot wound in his right leg.”

“You didn’t tell me about the trauma, Witri! I almost missed an important detail!” Poppy said, slightly frustrated, realizing that Witri hadn’t shared the most critical information that might explain Rayendra’s condition.

Witri gave a bitter smile, trying to imagine how terrifying that moment must have been for Rayendra, witnessing his father’s life slip away in front of his own eyes.

“Then, where did his mother go? Why are you in charge now?”

Witri sighed deeply. “Aunt Latsri has been having hallucinations, exactly one month after my brother’s passing. She keeps saying that my brother is still with her.”

“Where is your other brother?”

Wandi?

Wiranto?

Witri froze, trying to remember where her two older brothers, who had suddenly disappeared after their brother’s death, had gone. “They left, I don’t know where. Everyone left me and the twins behind. I didn’t even get to say goodbye that day before I went to the U.S. I really regret it, Poppy.”

That sentence changed Poppy’s expression. He couldn’t imagine how hard it must have been to live without the support of any adults around. It made sense why Witri was still single, if her priorities had always been her family.

“Even the office and coal matters, I take care of everything,” Witri concluded, her voice heavy with the burden she carried.

Realizing their conversation was running too long, Poppy quickly grabbed Witri’s hand and pulled her back to the consultation room. “R—Rayina… where is Andrean? Why are you playing alone?”

Rayina, who had been holding back her tears, finally broke down and ran to hug Witri.

“Auntie… Rayina is scared.”

“Why? What did Ray do to you?”

Rayina sobbed, her voice shaky. “I—just now, he said he was going to take revenge for what happened to Dad. Ray looks different, Aunt. He’s scary.”

“Where is he now?”

Rayina pointed toward the bathroom door of the consultation room. Her hand trembled, and Dr. Poppy instinctively pulled her into a comforting hug.

“Quickly, follow him, Wit.”

“The door is locked, Poppy.”

Witri rushed out of the room, seeking help to break the bathroom door. She found the janitor who had just finished his work and was resting.

“Sir, please, can you help break down the door?”

The janitor nodded and followed Witri back to the room.

Crash!

“RAYENDRA!”

Poppy collapsed in shock upon seeing Rayendra, unconscious with a bloody forehead, lying next to broken glass. His blood slowly trickled toward the drain, mingling with the silent water dripping from the sink.

“Sir, please help take Rayendra to the emergency room!”

The janitor rushed to carry Rayendra, covered in blood.

Rayendra was taken to the children’s treatment room because his forehead needed stitching. His handsome face now looked helpless with an IV tube and oxygen attached to his body. Rayina, exhausted, had fallen asleep on the couch.

“I told you, you have to listen to me, Rayendra! I’m a good person, even better than you! What’s so hard about sharing a place?! So selfish! Because of you, this weak body is lying here. Just try it if you don’t rebel, this forehead will be fine.”

“I don’t want to share a place with someone who doesn’t love my sister!”

“I will love Rayina, as long as you trust me and share a place with me!”

“Supprety!!! Go away, Andrean!!!”

Rayendra woke up from the dream.

“Rayendra, are you awake?” He heard a soft voice, and when he looked up, he saw a beautiful girl with shoulder-length hair above him. “Rayina? What are you doing in my room?”

Seeing Rayendra conscious, Rayina quickly went to tell Witri and Dr. Poppy outside the room.

“Auntie, Auntie! Rayendra’s awake!”

Witri rushed toward Rayendra’s room, but as she reached for the door, she felt anxious about who she might encounter—Andrean or Rayendra?

“Come on, Aunt, Rayendra is awake!” Rayina shouted.

Inside, Witri hesitated to approach Rayendra. Her reflection on Andrean’s rude attitude reminded her of the three brothers she couldn’t ignore. She didn’t want the bad things that happened to her family to resurface in a different form.

“Auntie, why is Rayendra in the hospital? I thought Rayendra was sleeping in Rayina’s room yesterday?” Rayendra asked.

“Rayendra, do you remember the last time you slept in Rayina’s room?” Dr. Poppy asked.

“Yes, which doctor, huh? Why do you know my name? Have we met before?”

Dr. Poppy smiled. “Let me introduce myself, I’m Dr. Poppy. From now on, I’ll be Rayendra’s friend!”

Rayendra looked confused. “Why does Rayendra have to be friends with adults?”

“Because we will be good friends until Rayendra gets better.”

“What’s wrong with me, Doc?”

Dr. Poppy raised her voice, preparing for the challenge ahead in her career as a psychiatrist. What troubled her most was why her best friend’s nephew had to go through this condition.

  • Shocked Birthday Gift

In the morning, Rayendra was having breakfast with Rayina at the dining table, both absorbed in their phones. “I’m going out for a bit. I need to go to the minimarket to buy some cooking ingredients. Finish your breakfast, okay?” “Yes,” they both replied without looking up from their phones. Suddenly, Aunt Witri video-called them. “Why are you video-calling this early?” “Hello, Rayendra, Rayina! Happy Birthday!” “Aunt, how are you? We miss you! How’s everything?” Instead of responding to her greeting, they both bombarded Aunt Witri with questions about her condition, since she had been in the hospital for almost a week. “I’m feeling better! I should be able to go home soon.” “Thank

The bell rang for break. Rayendra, who usually sat alone, was suddenly approached by Amelia, Zahra’s close friend.“Rayendra, can we talk for a minute?”Rayendra looked up, trying to recognize the girl standing in front of him. He instinctively looked over at Zahra, who appeared downcast in her seat. Rayendra felt uneasy, sensing something was off. Seeing the confused atmosphere, he quickly followed Amelia, who had been waiting by the classroom door.Amelia led him to the stairs. Her face was red, as if holding back strong emotions. Her cynical gaze made Rayendra swallow nervously.“What did you say to Zahra? Why does she keep saying your name?”Rayendra furrowed his brow. For whatever reason, he didn’t understand the pointed question. As far as he could remember, he had only met Zahra at Tahura yesterday. “I didn’t say anything.”“Liar! Are you a jerk or what?” Amelia raised her fist, almost hitting Rayendra on the head.

  • Twins's Decision

A black sedan pulled up in front of the roadside stall after following the directions on the map. The roar of the expensive car’s engine caught the attention of the people chatting nearby.Andrean rushed to Mang Asep. “Mang, it took forever, I’m starving.”“Sorry, Tuan. There was heavy traffic, I heard there was a tragedy here? A lot of people are talking about it.”Andrean clicked his tongue in annoyance. He hated people who were slow and full of excuses. For him, time was the most valuable thing. One minute delayed could change an hour in the future. His principles were the complete opposite of Rayendra’s, who always struggled and ended up surrendering when managing his time.In the car, Andrean opened his phone’s gallery, checking the class group chat and Rayendra’s private messages with others. He always did this whenever he appeared. He needed to know what Rayendra had been going through recently in order to fit into the environment. Wha

  • Rayendra, Are You Okay?

They walked back down the forest path, with Rayendra following Zahra as she led the way through the crowd of people filling the streets. At the parking lot, Mang Asep’s motorcycle had broken down. No wonder Mang Asep had warned Ray against taking the old motorcycle this morning. Rayendra was confused about how to fix the problem, as he didn’t understand mechanics. He asked a parking attendant to help start the motor, but it was no use. The parking attendant suggested bringing the motorcycle to a workshop that was quite far down the road. Rayendra quickly grabbed his phone, which he had been ignoring since Zahra arrived. He opened a spam message from his aunt. Witri was scolding Ray for taking the old motorcycle to the highlands. The engine wasn’t strong enough for uphill travel, so the motorcycle had stalled at the forest park parking lot. “Hello, Mang Asep? Mang, sorry, the bike won’t start. I don’t understand machinery. The parking guy said to take it to a workshop, but it’s

  • Tahura (Forest Park)

The weekend passed quickly. Rayendra planned to spend the weekend alone in the outdoors. He felt it was the best form of self-healing for him. He had been doing this since ninth grade, based on Dr. Poppy’s advice, his psychiatrist. This time, he wanted to see the tall trees and some animals at the Forest Park. “Where are you going?” “To Tahura, just to get some fresh air.” “It’s pretty crowded there on weekends, you sure you want to meet so many people?” “I just need some fresh air. Want to join?” Rayina shook her head. “Okay, I’m off.” “By what?” “Camel.” Rayendra took the motorbike he borrowed from Mang Asep, his aunt’s driver. Although he wasn’t given permission initially, fearing it would anger his aunt, he insisted on taking it. “Alright, be careful, A. The registration papers are under the seat.” “Thanks, Mang. I’ll be back this evening.” The weather was sunny and cool. The wind blew strongly, drying the sweat on his body. Before starting his trek, Rayendra stopped b
