At the Alvarez family kitchen, Linda, her brow furrowed in determination, Linda is now at the sink, determined to tackle the stack of dirty dishes that clutter the space.

“In her room, sulking, as always,” Linda replied, her voice with worry. She stopped scrubbing for a moment, her thoughts drifting to Bella. “Do you think we went too far with her, Gus?”

He shrugged, an edge of uncertainty in his eyes. “Do you think we did?”

Linda resumed her task, the Brillo pad scratching against the pot as if it reflected the turmoil in her heart. “I just wanted her to listen to us. If she’d obeyed us the first time, we wouldn’t have to repeat the same thing all the time.”

Jacqueline wasn’t surprised when Matthew announced that Elaine had changed her mind and decided to accompany him to her wedding party. It was Matthew who thought Jacqueline would make a scene at Sterling University Square. Enjoying her grilled cheese sandwich, Jacqueline sarcastically asked, “Oh, really? Your dear wife changed her mind... how interesting.” “You don’t want her to attend?” Matthew tried to read between the lines. “I want YOU there, Matt.” Jacqueline chewed and swallowed. “I don’t really care about the other one.” “No.” Matthew became serious. “You care about Patty’s presence. If she declines the invitation because of me, will you be upset with me?” “I would never be upset with you.” Jacqueline smiled sweetly. “And I can assure you Patty will go to the wedding. There will be new, interesting guys for her to meet – men with functioning minds.” “My father won’t like that.” Matthew smiled lightly. “Your father can’t force either of you to do anything, even though de

Matthew meets Jacqueline in Sterling University Square. She was taking a break to snack at the kiosk. Clayton was handing her a grilled cheese sandwich. “Enjoy it, Miss Andrade.” “Thanks. Have you decided about my wedding?” Jacqueline asked sweetly. “It will be a joyful occasion, my dear.” Clayton didn’t quite understand. “Ha, ha... I meant if YOU’RE going to my wedding.” Jacqueline thought Clayton was joking. Clayton almost had a heart attack, so startled he was. “WHAT?! No, Miss Andrade; I am leprous!” Matthew approached, also giggling. “Don’t worry, Clayton. You’ll be on the bride’s side.” Jacqueline smiled wider when she saw Matthew. “Matt, it’s always a pleasure to see you without your boring wife!” “AHEM...” Clayton was embarrassed. “Hello, Matt. Do you want me to go to this beautiful girl’s wedding?” “I think you’re privileged because of me. Enjoy!” Matthew put his arm around the fiancée. “Alright, I will! With the money I make from the snack bars, I’ll buy a brand ne

  • Chapter 1159 Trying to Understand the Doctor

Walter, sitting comfortably at his desk, continued talking with Matthew about his wife’s dilemma. “What did Jacque say about this?” Matthew asked cautiously. “Jacque is in class at her university,” Walter replied curtly. “But I believe she’ll take it all in stride. The important thing is that YOU are at her wedding party.” “You’re going to be the best man, right? I’ve heard it’s supposed to be me.” Matthew made a face. “You’re going to be the best man at MY wedding, man.” Walter chuckled in camaraderie. Linda came in, still anxious about the scene Mauricio had with her earlier. “Walt, I had to reschedule Dr. de Paula’s entire appointment schedule because he decided not to come in the morning,” Linda informed in a low voice, with a tone of guilt. Walter noticed this and became even more outraged. “Why do you look so guilty? It wasn’t you who told the doctor to sleep late, was it?” Matthew comforted Linda. “Actually, he seemed to have slept less.” “Tomorrow he had the whole day

Matthew and Walter entered Charles’s room to visit him. Charles was feeling much better, and there was no longer an IV bag dripping medication into his arm. “Matt, I’m glad you came to see me, thank you so much.” Charles was moved. “How have you been?” “I’m doing very well,” Matthew responded kindly. “Better than I imagined,” Charles teased himself. “You can eat roasted meat with spicy sauce and heavily seasoned broth, huh? I had to settle for grilled chicken fillet with little salt and oil.” Matthew and Walter laughed. “I don’t see how you’re going to eat anything at Jacque’s wedding,” Matthew joked. “Oh, she’ll make something adjustable for me. I trust my little princess,” Charles smiled. “Speaking of which, I have some news that will pique your interest,” Matthew said, first checking Charles’s blood pressure on the multiparameter monitor. “Elaine changed her mind and decided to attend the wedding. Will that cause any problems for you guys?” Walter and Charles exchanged look

Linda didn’t know where to hide her face, dying of embarrassment. “Is this the part where you explain to me what’s going on?” Matthew turned to the receptionist. “Mr. Sterling, I am very sorry...” Linda was about to cry. “But I just can’t explain it to you...” Walter appeared in the lobby, noticing the peculiar scene. “Matt, good morning! Do you need to talk to me?” His smile faded when he saw what was happening. “What’s going on?” Linda didn’t want to say, but Matthew answered honestly, “Dr. de Paula was rude to Linda. And it seems, it’s not the first time.” Walter furrowed his brow, looking at his girlfriend. “Linda and Dr. de Paula had an argument some weeks ago, but I thought they had made peace.” Linda tried to explain tearfully, “I told my father what happened, as

Tiffany was walking through the Sterling Cultural Hall auditorium, looking at the ceiling and remembering that fateful night when a spotlight nearly fell on Vicente while he was performing. She shook her head, trying to forget that nightmare. Looking up, she saw maintenance technicians ensuring everything was safe and in order. João Paulo appeared beside her, holding a bunch of cotton on his left arm. “All done, I did the blood tests and received the tropical vaccines. Hope I don’t get yellow fever.” “If you got vaccinated, it’s obvious you won’t get it,” Tiffany laughed. “So, did you rescue Maurício?” “The irresponsible one was tangled up in that vegetation behind the beachside chestnut trees with a ‘companion’ who probably lost her ability to walk thanks to him!” João Pedro complained, still not used to that strange way couples have fun. Tiffany made a ‘PFFF’ sound and covered her mouth with her hands. She knows how it feels to be unable to feel her legs after spending a sleepl
