The blinding flash of white energy tore through the end of the corridor, turning the heavy steel doorway into a shower of molten iron and glowing sparks.

Julian reacted instantly, shoving Maya behind his back as he raised his rifle and fired three fast rounds into the smoke. Beside him, Commander Eleanor Vance drew her silver dagger, her boots sliding against the wet floor as she prepared to meet whatever came through the breach. Old Man Marrow stepped up right behind them, holding his iron pipe high with a fierce scowl on his weathered face.

The smoke cleared in a heartbeat, and a tall figure stepped out of the glowing wreckage.

It was not Lord Vane. It was a woman wearing a long black military coat with silver shoulder plates. Her dark hair was tied back in a tight braid, and her cold, blue eyes scanned the hallway with total calm. Two glowing energy swords were clipped to her belt, humming quietly in the dense air.

"Lower your weapons, Malakor," the woman said, her voice steady and clear. "If I wanted you dead, you would have been ash before you even turned around."

Julian kept his rifle raised, his muscles tight. "Who are you? How did you find this ship?"

The woman crossed her arms, ignoring the gun pointed at her chest. "My name is Commander Zara Bello. I lead the Shadow Vanguard. For ten years, my faction has fought a hidden war against the Vance family in the outer sectors of New Oxford. We watched you hack their financial vaults and seize control of Viktor's syndicate ship. You made a lot of noise tonight."

Maya stepped out from behind Julian, her dark eyes narrowing as she studied the newcomer. She did not look intimidated at all. Instead, a sharp, calculating look crossed her face, weighing the risks and the benefits of this sudden visitor in a matter of seconds.

"You did not break through our bulkhead just to praise our hacking skills, Commander Bello," Maya said, her voice calm and sharp. "What do you want?"

Zara gave Maya a look of mild surprise, as if she had expected a frightened teenager rather than a cold strategist. A faint smile touched the corner of Zara's mouth.

"You have the financial codes and the legal deeds to half the commercial sector," Zara said, walking closer despite the weapons pointed at her. "And we have an army of elite fighters who know every secret tunnel beneath the Vance residential estate. Lord Vane is already mobilizing his personal guard units. If you attack his estate alone, you will walk straight into a slaughterhouse. But if we work together, we can tear his empire down before the sun reaches noon."

Julian lowered his rifle just an inch, looking back at Maya to see what she thought of the offer. They needed all the help they could get if they wanted to take down the ancient enemy once and for all, but trusting a new faction after Viktor's betrayal was a huge gamble.

"Why should we trust you?" Julian asked, his eyes locked onto Zara's cold blue gaze. "Viktor promised us an alliance less than an hour ago, and then he tried to blow us to pieces."

"Viktor is a pirate who cares about money," Zara replied, her tone turning sharp. "The Shadow Vanguard cares about freedom. The Vance family wiped out half our families during the purge ten years ago. We do not want their coins. We want their blood."

Eleanor stepped forward, her face grim as she recognized the name of Zara's faction. "The Shadow Vanguard was disbanded during the great lockdown. Everyone thought your group was wiped out."

"We went underground," Zara said simply. "We waited for the right moment. And looking at you right now, that moment has finally arrived."

Maya stood in silence for a moment, her eyes fixed on Zara's face as she ran every possible scenario through her mind. She looked at the military insignia on Zara's coat, then glanced down at the tactical map they had left on the table. Her logic was cold, precise, and completely focused on victory.

"If we form an alliance," Maya said slowly, "your troops take the front gates and draw the main shield units away from the central tower. Julian, Eleanor, Marrow, and I will take the underground maintenance tunnel straight into the core reactor."

Zara nodded without a second of hesitation. "Acceptable. My vanguard fighters will give you thirty minutes before they breach the gates. That is all the time you will have to reach the core."

"Thirty minutes is more than enough," Maya said, a confident smile spreading across her lips.

Julian let out a breath, sliding his safety switch back into place as the tension in the hallway finally began to ease. He looked at his sister, feeling a deep wave of admiration. She had turned a dangerous ambush into a full-scale military alliance with just a few sharp words.

"Let us move," Marrow grunted, lowering his iron pipe with a satisfied grin. "I am getting too old to stand around waiting for explosions."

The massive cargo ship turned its course sharply, racing across the dark ocean toward the northern cliffs where the grand estate of the Vance family stood like an untouchable fortress of stone and steel. The rain had completely stopped, leaving behind a clear, freezing sky as dawn crept closer over the horizon.

Within an hour, the ship docked quietly at a hidden concrete slipway near the base of the northern cliffs. Zara's vanguard soldiers were already waiting there, standing in perfect rows beside armored transport vehicles loaded with heavy weapons and explosives.

Julian, Maya, Eleanor, and Marrow stepped off the ship, joining Zara at the front of the strike force. The cold morning wind whipped through their hair as they looked up at the towering stone walls of the Vance estate looming high above them on the cliff edge.

"This is the entry point," Zara said, pointing toward a heavy iron grate set into the cliffside. "The maintenance tunnel leads directly beneath the main mansion. Once you are inside, you will have to bypass the secondary security grid manually."

"Leave the security grid to me," Maya said, tapping her phone screen.

They moved quickly through the dark, damp tunnel, their boots splashing against the concrete floor as they made their way deep into the foundations of the enemy stronghold. The air grew warm and heavy the closer they got to the core reactor, vibrating with a low, steady hum that could be felt in their bones.

After ten minutes of fast walking, they reached a massive steel door marked with the red crest of the Vance family. A digital keypad flashed with a bright red light, blocking their path completely.

"This is it," Eleanor said, checking her pistol as she kept watch down the dark corridor behind them. "The heart of the estate."

Maya stepped up to the keypad without a single trace of hesitation. She pulled a small cable from her pocket, plugged it directly into the interface port beneath the buttons, and began typing commands into her phone at lightning speed.

"Give me twenty seconds," Maya murmured, her eyes fixed on the glowing code lines scrolling across her screen.

Above the heavy steel door, the red warning light blinked rapidly, shifting from crimson to yellow as Maya's algorithms cracked the encryption layers one by one.

"Almost there," Maya said, her fingers moving faster.

Suddenly, the screen on her phone went completely black.

Before Maya could react, a loud, artificial laugh echoed from the speakers embedded in the stone walls all around them. The voice belonged to Lord Vane, sounding colder and sharper than ever before.

"Did you really think I would leave the core unprotected against a simple phone hack, little rat?" Lord Vane's voice mocked through the corridor.

The steel door behind them slammed shut with a deafening crash, sealing them inside the narrow hallway, while poison gas began to hiss from hidden vents in the ceiling.
