Turn yourself in

“What? Mom, did you just say Ethan attacked you?” Amelia’s furious voice could be heard on the line immediately after.

“Yes. That man is so vicious. He is involved in theft and has a fake black card he wants to use to cheat the bank. We tried to report him, but he sabotaged the whole situation and reported us instead, saying we were the ones carrying a fake card. The bank director had to come over and seize it.”

Charlotte explained while faking tears just to make it more believable.

“What? How dare he?” Amelia was hopping mad. Her voice was almost breaking through the phone speakers.

“Sister, you have to get justice for us. How could he hurt Mother so badly and still have our card confiscated? You know Logan gave us that card and how authentic it is, yet that damn punk has to make us suffer for something we weren’t guilty of.” Fiona also joined in as she leaned towards the phone.

On the other side of the phone, Amelia froze in shock. She never expected Ethan to go so far as to indulge himself in such fraudulent activity. To what end? Was it to get back at her or what?

She fumed in anger. He dared to hurt her mother for this? And have their card taken away from them? Of course, she wasn’t going to let him off like that.

“Mom, Fiona, both of you should come home now. I’ll call him now and end this.” She said, and with that, she hung up before quickly dialing Ethan’s number right away.

Ring! Ring!

The phone rang twice before it was picked up. Ethan was definitely shocked that she would be calling him at such times, not after he had just had an episode with her mother and sister.

“Turn yourself in, Ethan. This is a warning to you. I know what you did. Don’t even try to deny it.” Amelia sneered as soon as the call was picked up, giving him no chance to even reply before she continued.

“You dare hurt my mother and carry a fake card around? Do you think you will get away with all this? Turn yourself in to lessen your guilt, or else I’ll drag you to the mud!” She added.

Sigh!

A sigh could be heard from the other side. Ethan realized that there was nothing he could say that would make her to not believe her mother's one-sided words. Well, it wasn’t like he had time for this.

“Watch your mouth. Stop accusing me of something you don’t know about. And as for your mom, you should ask her properly, because I don’t remember hurting her. Now if you’ll excuse me,” with that, he hung up the phone on her.

“Ethan! Ethan!” She called out, but to no avail. The call had already disconnected.

That useless punk, did he think he would get away with this? She fumed in anger as she thought to herself. Angrily, she swiped through her phone, about to dial his number again, when she caught sight of the time at the top left corner of her phone.

“Shit! It’s almost time!” It dawned on her that she had a charity dinner to attend with Logan. She couldn’t afford to waste any time or get involved with Ethan for now. But as soon as she came back, she was going to pay him back with his own coin.

“Just wait for me. We shall see.” With that, she walked off to get prepared.

….

Meanwhile, Axel took Ethan to the VIP room after apologizing to him for what the guards did and also introducing herself.

The room exuded luxury and sophistication with plush leather armchairs, polished wood accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering a stunning city view.

Ethan was offered a chair, and after he had seated himself comfortably, Axel brought in a terminal and inserted his card into it. After controlling a few buttons on it, she turned it over to him and asked politely.

“Input your PIN, sir.”

“Okay.” Ethan was content with her manners. She wasn’t like others who would just look down at anyone by judging their appearance.

He smiled and input his birthday year as the password. The display screen showed processing, and right after, his balance was displayed.

“Your balance is 100,000,000,000,000.”

Ethan’s eyes widened to the point that they might fall out of their sockets. His eyes had to be hurting him, right? Or perhaps he was seeing double. Why were there so many zeros attached to his balance?

Not just him but Axel too was shocked beyond words, as this was the first time she had seen such an amount of money.

“A hundred trillion dollars?” She gasped, almost losing her balance. The terminal in her hands suddenly felt heavy, and she almost dropped it to the floor.

Realizing she was becoming too nervous, she quickly adjusted herself back in place.

“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude.” She apologized, hoping to maintain a good relationship, as she knew this man was the biggest of the big shots she could ever come across.

“Ooh, it’s fine.” Ethan wouldn’t blame her. If he were the only one in this room, he would have screamed his lungs out in shock. Well, he would seem somehow if he did that, so he had to conceal his expression at once.

“Thank you very much.” She bowed slightly before pulling his card and handing it back to him.

Ethan smiled as he collected the card before returning it to his pocket.

“Uhm, sir, I'd like to tell you that our bank has introduced many industries and investment projects across the country. At your convenience, if you like, you could check them out to see if you will be interested.”

She then pulled out her business card and presented it to him with a bow.

“Please feel free to contact me with this number for further assistance or inquiries. If you need anything too, you can contact me, and I’ll be at your service.” She said politely.

Ethan nodded before extending his hand to collect the card. He scrutinized it and saw her name and number on it.

“I’ll give it a try sometime. Thank you.” He smiled at her before turning to leave.

At once Axel was over the moon already. She then remembered there was a grand event that big shots such as him were supposed to attend. Unable to let such an opportunity slide, she spoke again.

“Also, there will be dinner this afternoon. An auction will be held there too.” She said while Ethan paused and turned towards her. Quickly, she picked up a card containing every detail of the event from the desk close to her and walked towards him.

“Please look at this. There are so many rare items that might catch your eye. What do you think?”

Though Ethan was reluctant, as soon as his eyes caught sight of the list of items that would be auctioned, his interest was instantly piqued.

There was a particular ring that was exactly like the one that the mysterious woman gave to him. It had a different pattern on it, and he realized the two patterns together might form a complete pattern.

A flash of pain suddenly glinted in his eyes as he felt the item might be connected to his amnesia. Sighing, he figured he had to get this ring at all costs.

“Okay. Let’s go to the auction then. I just saw something that caught my eye.” He smiled.

He had already noticed something for quite a long while, and it was that if you do not pay them attention despite everything they do to gain yours, it hurts them like crazy. It was a huge bruise to their ego. But today? Today is going to be different, he isn't going to pay them with silence, he has something better to pay them with.He turned to stare at his mother-in-law, Charlotte, and Fiona. There was a mocking expression on their faces as they stared at him, happy that they'd finally gotten his attention. Gotten to him with their words, finally hurt him where it hurts. Amelia's attention remained

  • Where regret sands still

“First step,” Ethan exhaled sharply, pushing his hair backward as a look of satisfaction made its way to his face and he picked the bottle of tequila that he had drunk halfway already. The conversation with Jamie could not have gone any better than it did, and a wry smile moved the corner of Ethan's lips upward just as he approached his laptop, unlocking it swiftly.Without wasting any time he inserted the drive that Jamie had given him into the laptop, and he was staring at every detail of Paul in the space of three minutes, but as he scrolled upward, a look of annoyance filled his features.“Interesting,” he muttered under his breath as he found something that raised suspicion. A significant amount of money entered Paul's account on specific dates, and that caused Ethan to pick up his phone, calling Jamie without second thoughts and before he could even shift his gaze to the laptop, Jamie answered it.“I'm listening sir,” he answered with urgency in his tone. “Is there anything yo

  • Calculated trust

Standing at the far right corner of the office, Ethan noticed the uncertainty in Jamie's eyes even when the latter had already agreed.“You are still doubting your decision, am I correct?” He threw the question at Jamie, pulling a chair towards himself before he took his seat.“How did you know my location the previous night?” The returned a question back to Ethan, and although he was displeased his lips just curved into a smirk, one that was not genuine.“If you were in my shoes, and I was in yours, would you trust me that easily?” The silence stretched as Ethan waited for Jamie to answer, but there was no response, not until Ethan raised an eyebrow.“I won't sir,” he finally answered, clasping his hands behind himself. “I'm sorry for the delay.” Ethan drew in a long breath before he finally let it out with his eyes briefly shut. “I know I don't need to do this, but if it kills your doubt then so be it.” With that being said Ethan took off his face cap and nose mask, dropping it ri

  • Caught between threats

They all watched the doorknob slowly twist, and with nervousness sitting in their hearts their eyes narrowed, like they were trying to see through the door. Jamie could not hold it any longer, but just as he rose to his feet the door opened, revealing a familiar figure. One that was a threat to them. “Good gods,” that was the only word Gerald was able to push out his mouth, and without another word he rose to his feet, briefly staring at Robert who needed no one to tell him that he should also be on his feet, and he did that without hesitating. “Umm, to what do we owe the pleasure of this visit s–” Robert was forced to shove that word down his throat, and when he realized Ethan was still looking at him he could not help but tear his gaze away from him, moving it to the floor with a hint of panic on his face. “I'm sorry about that sir,” Jamie broke the silence with a slight bend of his head, and he inhaled sharply before raising his head. “I’ll make sure such a thing does not repe

  • A glimpse of hell

“The chairman?” Jamie asked and let out another chuckle. “What is giving you the assurance that the chairman would even mind dealing with this shit in a way that it won’t lead back to us at all? What is the assurance that he cares at all? What did he do to the security team? He followed them straight to us to let us know that he is with them. They brought him to us.” “Well, that is because he had the power to discard us if we go past our boundary, that is the same thing with the middleman,” Robert said assuringly. Jamie buried his face in his hands for a very brief moment. “How the hell did I get friends like this?” The question was directed more to him than to the two people standing close and on either side of him. “You don’t understand,” Jamie began, raising his head to stare at both of them, his gaze shifting from Gerald to Robert and back, his gaze was burning. Gerald stared daggers back at him, already tired of the back and forth, the words spoken in parables. “Then, tell

  • A visit foretold

The Cole brothers remained seated in position, except for Alexander who was on his feet, watching Romanov walk out unscathed. Although it had been seven minutes since they let him go, they were yet to say something to one another, and the silence between them had begun to get palpable…not until Adrian rose to his feet, clearing his throat afterward.“We can't let this slide, and I'm not the only one thinking about it right?” Adrian asked, slipping a hand into his pocket. With a gentle nod Anton agreed, tapping his right foot against the floor. “Definitely.”The silence filled the air once again, but that was after Anton and Adrian moved their gaze to Alexander who was still standing in the same position with his hands crossed above his chest, and Anton popped the question, with a little bit of hesitation in his brown eyes that matched his sandy brown hair.“What about you Alexander?”They had to wait in silence as a thoughtful expression masked his face, and with a gentle nod he shi
