"Master Reed, it's incredibly good to have you back. We’ve all been waiting for this day."

John’s voice was filled with genuine relief as he steered the luxury sedan smoothly through the city streets, heading toward the Reeds family estate.

Nelson only offered a faint, exhausted smile, keeping his gaze fixed on the passing streetlights.

But John wasn't just a driver; he was Nelson’s assistant and most trusted confidant. He had served the Reeds family faithfully for most of his life, and he knew Nelson better than anyone. He could read the heavy silence filling the car. Something was deeply wrong.

"Nelson, are you okay?" John asked gently, glancing in the rearview mirror.

Nelson didn't reply. His mind was miles away, drifting through the wreckage of the last few hours. All he wanted right now was to crawl into bed and sleep for a week.

But John was persistent. "Is it… Lisa?"

Nelson raised a hand, cutting him off immediately. "I don't want to talk about it."

His voice was low, but the finality in his tone made it clear the subject was closed. Nelson rubbed his temples. "Can you just play some music, John? Please."

"Right. Of course, sir. Some music."

As John reached for the dashboard, his eyes caught a fleeting glimpse of the silver band in Nelson’s hand—the wedding ring that was supposed to be on Lisa’s finger. John swallowed hard, instantly understanding why Nelson had been acting so out of character. He quickly turned on the radio, letting a soft melody fill the tense silence.

As the car approached the grand gates of the mansion, Nelson turned to look out the window. They were passing the exact street corner where he had first met Lisa, back when she had absolutely nothing.

"Welcome back, Master Reed," John said softly as he parked and stepped out to open Nelson’s door.

Nelson slowly stepped out of the car, taking in the sight of the estate. It was a sprawling fortress of wealth. A magnificent cascading waterfall anchored the front garden, flanked by a fleet of luxury cars worth more than most corporate buildings. Elite security personnel stood watch at every corner, and a line of staff waited near the entrance, ready to serve him twenty-four hours a day.

He had walked away from all of this. He had left this untouchable life behind just to find someone who would love him for him, not for his bank account. But that dream was dead now. It was time to start over.

Despite the fresh ache in his chest, the familiar beauty of his childhood home brought a small, genuine smile to his face.

As he grabbed the heavy brass handle of the front doors, the grand foyer erupted into a chorus of voices.

"It’s an honor to have you back, sir! Welcome home!"

The staff repeated the greeting, bowing in unison. Nelson finally let out a real laugh, turning to look at John.

"I know this was all your doing."

John chuckled, a proud gleam in his eye. "We are all just happy to have you back where you belong, sir."

Nelson’s face lit up. He had just survived the worst night of his life, but the genuine loyalty of the people standing in front of him was enough to keep him grounded.

"Let me take you to your room, sir," a maid stepped forward, swiftly taking Nelson's overnight bag off his shoulder and leading the way up the grand staircase.

As soon as Nelson walked into his massive, perfectly arranged bedroom, he collapsed onto the mattress face-first. He lay there in the quiet for twenty minutes, his mind ruthlessly replaying the look of disgust on Lisa’s face. Despite everything she had said and done tonight, a stubborn, foolish part of his heart still loved her.

Knock, knock.

Nelson sighed and sat up, rubbing his eyes. "Come in."

John pushed the door open slowly. "Sorry to disturb you, sir, but your dinner will be ready shortly."

"Mm. Thanks," Nelson muttered, staring at the floor.

John stepped further into the room, closing the door behind him. "Sir, you said we were going to talk about why you came back so suddenly. And why you’ve been so quiet."

Nelson cleared his throat, the bitter reality of the situation settling back in. "It’s Lisa. She decided to divorce me. She said she was done with the marriage… told me I was a nobody dragging her down."

John’s posture stiffened, outrage flashing across his face. "I knew it was about her! After everything you’ve done, she throws you away? Nelson, you should have shown her who you truly are!"

Nelson shook his head. "I actually planned on telling her the truth tonight, John. All of it. My background, the money, the family name. But look how it turned out. I don't believe a person truly loves you if they only respect you when you have wealth. I wanted to see if she would be loyal through the struggle. She failed the test."

John sighed, his anger softening into sympathy. "I am incredibly sorry, sir. I promise you, she will regret this decision very soon."

Nelson nodded slowly, his eyes darkening. "Yes. Sooner or later."

"Should I make the calls, sir? Do we cut all ties with her company? I can have her contracts ripped up by morning."

"No," Nelson said sharply, raising a hand. "Don't touch the contracts. Let her be for now. I want her to climb as high as she can… so she doesn't see it coming when reality finally hits her."

Emily’s body was trembling, a cocktail of adrenaline and trauma coursing through her. As Nelson reached out, she shifted slightly away, her eyes cold and venomous. “What do you want, Nelson?” Nelson stayed silent for some second, the guilt visible in the lines of his face. “I… I—” “You what, Nelson?” she cut him off, her voice rising with a rough edge. “Ten calls. Ten. And you didn’t even bother to pick up once. When I heard that sound at my door, you were the first person I thought to call... but I was wrong. I was so goddamn mistaken. I don’t even know what changed you so suddenly.” Nelson moved a half-step closer, the regret heavy in his eyes. “Emily, I wish I’d answered... but there was a reason I didn’t. If you were in my shoes, you might have done the same. I’m so sorry... I never should have made you leave.” Emily’s expression shifted, a trace of confusion breaking through her anger. “What do you mean by 'reason,' Nelson?” Without a word, he slowly pulled out his phone. • CHAPTER 15: The Golden Pass

Knock, knock. John tapped twice before stepping into the heavy silence of Nelson’s office. Nelson didn’t even glance up. Not for a single second. His eyes were surgically locked onto the images Lisa had sent, the harsh, white glare from the phone reflecting in his pupils, making them look blood-red. “Sir… it appears something has been deeply disturbing you.” Nelson exhaled a long, rough breath, then slid the phone across the mahogany surface toward John. John froze for a heartbeat. He picked it up, his eyes scanning the screen, but the more he saw, the more the confusion clouded his face. His lips parted slightly, but no sound escaped. He was completely, utterly speechless. Nelson’s voice cut through the stagnant air like a blade. “Yes, John… that was exactly the same way I felt when I first saw them. At first, I was certain it was some kind of AI-generated bullshit… but they’re real. Every single one.” John swallowed hard, finally forcing his voice to return. “But sir… ho

  • CHAPTER 14: The Parks Legacy

“Who was that?” Mrs. Park crossed her legs by the marble table, her posture calm but intensely observant. Lisa threw her phone hard onto the chair, frustration written all over her face like she just wore them like makeup. “It’s Nelson, Mom… after all I’ve done to make sure he pulls his mind off that damn Emily, it just seems like they’re getting even closer.” “Arrghh—” she scratched her face roughly, her nails dragging across her skin in a fit of rage, nearly drawing blood. Mrs. Park’s voice came in slow and controlled, trying to bleed the tension out of the room. “Calm down, baby… you just have to keep trying your best.” But her wordsbut the wrong nerves. Like a match dropped into a drum of petrol. Lisa snapped instantly, the words finally breaking after being held back for too long. Her voice filled the room. “Can you even hear yourself, Mom?” Mrs. Park recoiled slightly, a flicker of something new flashing in her eyes fear… or perhaps shock. “How the hell do you expect

  • CHAPTER 13: Lisa’s Text

12:00 already, but Nelson still couldn't pull his mind away from the spiraling chaos. He stood on the mansion’s rooftop balcony, watching the cold night air sweep past. The city below looked so peaceful, filled in flickering lights, but something deep inside Nelson’s chest refused to settle. He had tried everything he could to scrub Lisa out of this whole picture, but the seeds of doubt had already taken root in his mind. He began to wonder, his thought tasting like ash: “Is John actually right?” Lisa had been clawing at every door to get back into his life, but targeting Emily, that will be too much or could she? He let out a rough breath and kept his gaze fixed on the empty sky, searching for some kind of clarity, but the answers only seemed to drift further away. Beep... His phone vibrated, snapping him out of the open silence of his own thoughts. He grabbed his phone instantly, his movements broken, as if he had been waiting for a reason to stop thinking. “Hey Nelson, you s

  • CHAPTER 12: Anonymous Threat

Nelson quickly took his phone from his pocket; the tension in his face was evident as he pressed the screen with rapid, deliberate clicks that echoed in the quiet space. His voice was calm but carried a heavy, authoritative weight as he contacted one of the city's top-tier special forces units. “Hello, old friend. I apologize for reaching out at this late hour, but I really kind of need your help right now.” The voice from the phone responded almost instantly, sounding both warmly familiar and professionally cheerful. “Mr. Reed, it's truly a pleasure to hear from you. How have things been with you recently?” Nelson offered a slight, tight smile, even though he knew deep down that everything was far from okay. “Things are okay, my friend,” he replied, maintaining his composure despite the adrenaline spiking in his veins. Nelson's gaze remained fixed on Emily, holding her hands firmly across the table to stop them from shaking. The voice on the phone spoke again, turning seri

  • CHAPTER 11: THE SHADOW OF THE ARCHITECT

Ping. Ping. Ping. The relentless chime of incoming emails echoed through the sprawling, silent office, but Nelson didn’t move. He remained anchored in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass, watching the city below. To the world, he was the architect of the Reeds Furniture Kingdom—a man of iron will and untouchable wealth. But inside, the fortress was under siege. He stared at the reflection of his own face in the glass. He looked like the Master now, but his eyes told a different story. No matter how many contracts he tore up, no matter how many times he told her it was over, the ghost of Lisa Park refused to leave the room. He could still see her face as it was three years ago—smiling at him over a cheap dinner in their cramped apartment, before the hunger for status had turned her into a stranger. A single, hot tear escaped, tracing a path down his cheek. He cursed himself silently. He should be celebrating. He should be feeling the triumph of justice. Instead, he felt the heavy, h
