The Daughter He Forgot
The lock clicked. Ethan Carter turned toward the chamber door. It was sealed. No one moved. The little girl beside him continued holding his hand. Her fingers were cold. “Daddy?” Ethan looked down at her. Those eyes. His eyes. For seven years, he had believed the biggest mystery of his life was the disappearance of Daniel Reed. Now he was standing beside a child he had apparently chosen to forget. “What’s your name?” Ethan asked softly. The girl hesitated. “Lily.” “Lily what?” She looked toward Rachel. Rachel couldn't meet his eyes. “Lily Morgan,” the girl whispered. Ethan's heart sank. “Why do you have Rachel's surname?” Rachel finally spoke. “Because I raised her.” “You knew where she was all these years?” “Yes.” “And you never told me?” “You made me promise.” “I don't remember making that promise.” “You weren't supposed to.” Ethan stepped away from Lily. The child immediately reached for him again. “Don't leave.” The words broke something inside him. “I won't,” Ethan promised. Then he looked at Rachel. “Tell me everything.” Rachel took a breath. “Seven years ago, Lily was born during the final stage of the Meridian conflict. Your father wanted to use her as leverage against you.” “Why?” “Because you were protecting the archive.” Ethan frowned. “I don't understand.” Rachel pointed toward the wall. “Your father built Meridian's security system around your memories. Lily's birth became part of the encryption.” Ethan stared at her. “You're saying my daughter is part of a password?” “Not exactly.” Rachel shook her head. “Her birth records contain the final piece of the encryption. Your memories contain the rest.” Ethan looked at Lily. “Does she know any of this?” “No.” A faint voice came from behind them. “I know.” Everyone turned. Richard Carter was standing. Blood stained his shoulder where Eleanor had shot him. Eleanor raised her weapon again. Richard smiled. “Don't.” “Stay away from my son.” “Your son?” Richard laughed softly. “You abandoned him.” Eleanor's expression hardened. “I saved him.” “You destroyed his life.” Richard looked at Ethan. “She erased your memories, Ethan. She took your daughter. She turned your entire life into a lie.” Ethan's anger rose. “Then tell me the truth.” Richard pointed toward Lily. “Ask her what she remembers.” Ethan looked at the girl. “Lily?” She stared at him. “I remember a train.” Rachel's face went pale. “What train?” “The red train.” Ethan felt a sharp pain behind his eyes. A memory flashed. A railway platform. Rain. Daniel running toward him. Rachel holding Lily. A man in a dark coat. And Ethan screaming: “Take her away!” The memory vanished. Ethan staggered. Rachel caught him. “You're remembering too quickly.” “Why did I give her away?” Rachel's eyes filled with tears. “Because someone was hunting her.” “Who?” “Your father.” Richard shook his head. “I wasn't hunting her.” He looked at Lily. “I was protecting her.” Ethan turned toward him. “Then why did she disappear?” Richard's expression became serious. “Because the person who took her wasn't me.” “Who was it?” Richard looked directly at Rachel. “Ask her.” Ethan turned. Rachel stood completely still. “Is that true?” Rachel's silence was answer enough. Ethan's voice dropped. “You took Lily.” “I did.” “Why?” “Because Daniel asked me to.” Ethan stared at her. “You've all been using Daniel's name as an excuse.” Rachel stepped closer. “Daniel discovered that someone inside our group was feeding information to Meridian. He knew Lily was the key to finding the traitor.” “And you took her?” “To keep her alive.” Ethan looked at Lily. “She was seven years old when she disappeared.” Rachel's face crumpled. “She was a newborn.” Ethan stopped. “A newborn?” Rachel nodded. “You were the one who handed her to me.” “Why?” “You told me, ‘If they ever find her, don't let her come back to me.’” Ethan closed his eyes. The memory returned. His own voice. His own hands. His daughter being placed into Rachel's arms. And Daniel standing behind him. Then Ethan remembered something else. A second person had been watching. Someone he hadn't seen before. A woman. A woman wearing a silver ring. Ethan opened his eyes. “Who was the woman?” Rachel looked confused. “What woman?” “In the hospital.” “There was no woman.” “There was.” Ethan turned toward Eleanor. “You know.” Eleanor's face changed. “Yes.” “Who was she?” Eleanor whispered: “Your grandmother.” Ethan stared. “My grandmother died before I was born.” “No.” Eleanor looked away. “That was another lie.” Before Ethan could respond, the lights suddenly flickered. A red warning symbol appeared on the monitor. Rachel rushed toward it. “Someone has breached the archive.” “Who?” Ethan asked. Rachel looked at the screen. “Marcus Hale.” Richard smiled. “He's not alone.” The monitor displayed several security feeds. Men in black tactical clothing were entering the underground facility. Then another figure appeared. A woman. Ethan stared. She was wearing a dark coat. Her face was hidden. But around her neck was a silver ring on a chain. The same ring he remembered. Ethan whispered: “Her.” The woman stopped in front of the camera. She looked directly into it. Then removed her hood. Ethan's breath caught. He knew her. Not from memory. From the photograph. The fifth person whose face had been scratched out. The founder of Meridian. The woman smiled. “Hello, Ethan.” Eleanor stepped backward. “No…” Ethan looked at his mother. “You know her.” Eleanor's voice trembled. “She was supposed to be dead.” “Who is she?” Eleanor finally answered. “Victoria Carter.” Ethan's eyes widened. “Who is that?” Eleanor looked at him. “Your grandmother.” Silence filled the room. Richard laughed. “You see, Ethan? Your family has been lying to you from the beginning.” Victoria's voice came through the speaker. “Enough.” The screen changed. Victoria looked directly at Ethan. “You have something that belongs to me.” “What?” “Your memory.” Ethan's fists tightened. “You destroyed my life.” Victoria smiled. “No, Ethan.” She paused. “I gave you a life.” “What do you want?” “The archive.” “I don't have it.” “You do.” She pointed at Lily. “Your daughter is the final key.” Lily moved closer to Ethan. Victoria continued: “Bring her to me, and I will restore every memory you've lost.” Ethan shook his head. “Never.” Victoria smiled. “Then I'll restore them another way.” The screen went black. A countdown appeared. 10:00 Rachel looked at Ethan. “They're going to activate the memory extraction system.” “What happens then?” “You could lose everything.” “Again?” “Forever.” Ethan looked at Lily. The girl was terrified. He crouched beside her. “Lily, I promise I won't let them take you.” She looked into his eyes. “You promised that before.” Ethan froze. “What?” Lily whispered: “Seven years ago.” A memory exploded inside Ethan's mind. Not a fragment. The entire scene. He remembered the train. Daniel. Rachel. His daughter. And Victoria. But most importantly, he remembered the final conversation he had with his father. Richard had told him: “If you erase your memories, you will forget who the real enemy is.” Ethan had replied: “That's the point.” Then he remembered what he had hidden. Not in a computer. Not in a safe. Inside his own mind. A location. A name. A single word. Ethan opened his eyes. He knew where the archive was. And he knew who the traitor was. He looked at Rachel. “It's you.” Rachel went pale. “What?” “You were the one who betrayed Daniel.” “No.” “You didn't take Lily to protect her.” Rachel's eyes filled with tears. “You took her because Victoria ordered you to.” Rachel slowly raised her gun. Eleanor shouted: “Rachel, don't!” Rachel's hands trembled. “I didn't have a choice.” Ethan stepped between her and Lily. “You always had a choice.” Rachel's eyes filled with tears. Then she whispered: “I know.” A gunshot echoed. But the bullet wasn't fired at Ethan. Rachel turned and shot the security camera. The screen shattered. She looked at Ethan. “Run.” Ethan grabbed Lily's hand. They rushed toward the emergency exit. Behind them, alarms screamed. Richard shouted something. Eleanor followed. But before Ethan reached the door, Lily suddenly stopped. “Daddy.” “What?” She pointed toward the floor. A small red light was blinking beneath it. Ethan crouched. There was a hidden compartment. Inside was a black memory card. He picked it up. His name was engraved on it. ETHAN CARTER — FINAL MEMORY Ethan stared at the card. Then his phone vibrated. A message appeared from an unknown number. PLAY IT. He inserted the card into his phone. A video appeared. Ethan saw himself seven years earlier. He looked directly into the camera. And said: “If you're watching this, it means Lily has found you.” Ethan's blood ran cold. His younger self continued: “And if Lily has found you, then Victoria is already dead.” The video paused. Then Ethan's younger face changed. Fear appeared in his eyes. He whispered: “But if Victoria is alive…” The recording cut to black. A final sentence appeared on the screen: THEN THE WOMAN YOU CALL YOUR MOTHER IS NOT ELEANOR CARTER.Latest Chapter
The Last Memory
The Last MemoryThe hospital speakers went silent. For several seconds, nobody moved. The last words Amelia had spoken remained suspended in the air like a threat that had not yet decided whether it wanted to become a promise.“The third world has begun.”Lily stared at the photograph on the wall.It had already burned away, leaving only a dark rectangular stain. But she could still see the woman's face in her mind.Amelia.Her mother.A woman Lily had mourned for most of her life.A woman who had supposedly died before Lily was old enough to understand what death meant.Yet Amelia had spoken to them. She was alive. And she had known they would come.Rachel slowly lowered her weapon.“Everyone stay calm.”Daniel looked at the tablet in his hands.“Calm isn't really an option anymore.”“What are you seeing?” Rachel asked.Daniel's fingers moved rapidly across the screen.“The network is still active.”“What network?”“The Mirror.”Lily turned toward him.“I thought it was destroyed.”“
The Man Behind the Memory
The Man Behind the MemoryThe hospital went dark. For several seconds, Lily could hear nothing except her own heartbeat. Then Ethan's voice came through the darkness.“Lily…”She turned toward him.“Dad?”No answer.A red emergency light flickered on.Ethan stood in the center of the corridor. His eyes were black. The Mirror symbol covered his hands, spreading slowly up his arms like dark veins.Around him, hundreds of patients stood motionless.Every face was turned toward Lily.Rachel raised her weapon.“Lily, get behind me.”Lily didn't move.“That isn't my father.”Ethan smiled. The smile wasn't his.“No,” he said.“I am what he tried to forget.”Helen Carter stood at the end of the corridor. Her expression was strangely calm.“Welcome to St. Mary's.”Lily stared at her.“You knew this would happen.”Helen nodded.“I've been waiting for this moment for twenty-nine years.”Rachel aimed her weapon at her.“What are you?”Helen looked at Ethan.“A mother.”Then she looked at Lily.“A
St. Mary's
St. Mary'sThe message remained on the screen.ETHAN CARTER IS WAITING.Lily stared at it without blinking. For several seconds, nobody moved. Then Sarah whispered, “That isn't possible.”Daniel turned toward her.“Why?”Sarah looked at the coordinates.“Because St. Mary's wasn't just destroyed.”She swallowed.“It was erased.”Rachel frowned.“Buildings don't get erased.”“This one did.”Sarah pointed at the screen.“After the first Mirror event, every record connected to St. Mary's disappeared. Patient files. Staff records. Photographs. Government documents.”Daniel stared at the database.“That explains why I couldn't find a complete record.”Lily stepped closer.“But I was born there.”“Yes.”“And my father disappeared there.”Sarah nodded.“That's what everyone was told.”Lily looked at her.“What really happened?”Sarah didn't answer.Lily's voice hardened.“Mom.”Sarah closed her eyes.“Your father didn't disappear from St. Mary's.”“He was taken.”“By whom?”“By us.”The room
The Forgotten Son
The Forgotten SonThe lake exploded.A wall of water crashed toward the laboratory.Ethan grabbed Lily and pulled her backward.Rachel shouted:“MOVE!”Everyone ran toward the tunnel.Behind them, the enormous structure rose from the lake.It was neither machine nor living creature. It was something in between.Metal plates covered a body made of translucent tissue. Hundreds of cables extended from its back and disappeared beneath the water. At the center was a face.Ethan's face. But impossibly old.The eyes opened. And every screen in the laboratory displayed the same message:MEMORY ENTITY: ACTIVEDaniel stared at the readings.“What is that?”Ethan shook his head.“I don't know.”The entity spoke again.“You know me.”Ethan stopped.“No.”“You have forgotten me.”“Who are you?”The entity's face changed. For a moment, Ethan saw his own mother. Then his brother. Then Lily. Then himself. Finally, it became the face of a young boy.Ethan froze. His brother. As a child. The entity spo
The First World
The First WorldDarkness swallowed the laboratory. For several seconds, there was nothing. No voices. No machines. No footsteps.Only the sound of Ethan Carter breathing. Then a light appeared.A single white point in the darkness. It expanded slowly until Ethan found himself standing beside a lake. The same lake. But not the same world. The water was clear. The sky was blue. The old Carter house stood untouched among green trees. There was no Meridian tower. No Mirror Network. No resistance. No war.No ruins.Ethan turned around.Rachel was gone. His brother was gone.Richard was gone.Lily was gone.He was alone.Or so he thought.A child was standing near the water.Ethan recognized him immediately.Himself.Eight years old.Young Ethan was throwing stones into the lake.Another boy sat nearby. His brother. They were laughing.Ethan watched them silently. Then a woman's voice came from behind him.“You wanted to know who destroyed the first world.”Ethan turned.Eleanor Carter stoo
The Memory Beneath the Lake
The Memory Beneath the LakeThe lake moved. Not with the wind. Not with the current.Something beneath its black surface was breathing.Ethan Carter stood at the edge of the water, staring at the glowing symbol on his palm. The Mirror. It pulsed like a second heartbeat.Lily stood beside him.“What did Eleanor do to you?”Ethan looked at his hand.“I don't know.”Rachel approached cautiously.“Then we need to find out before she takes control.”Ethan looked toward the lake.“She already has.”A deep vibration passed through the ground.Daniel checked his equipment.“That's not possible.”“What?”“The lake has no underground machinery.”Another vibration.Stronger this time. The old house trembled.Ethan closed his eyes. And suddenly he saw it.A corridor beneath the water.A metal door.A child standing behind glass.A woman holding a newborn. Then a voice:Remember.Ethan opened his eyes.“There is a facility beneath the lake.”Daniel stared at him.“How do you know?”“I saw it.”Rac
