The rain had stopped, but the city air remained thick with the scent of ozone and exhaust. Bara didn't just walk; he moved with an efficiency that felt alien. Every step was calculated, his joints absorbing the impact with a fluid, predatory grace he had never possessed before. The System’s countdown flickered at the edge of his vision—22:14—pulsing in time with the thrumming heat behind his sternum.

He reached the vicinity of Alya’s Tea House, a glass-and-steel establishment that looked entirely too expensive for the neighborhood. As he rounded the corner, his enhanced vision locked onto the target. The System highlighted a woman stepping out of a black sedan: Alya.

She was the antithesis of the Grand Aurelia’s chaos. Her suit was sharp enough to cut paper, her posture so rigid it looked like she was carved from ice, and she was currently surrounded by three men in suits that screamed "hired goons."

—Warning: Target identified. Mint Essence concentration: High. Immediate proximity required for extraction.—

Bara didn't think; he reacted. The instinct to "claim" the essence felt like a biological imperative, a primal hunger. He approached the sidewalk, his ears picking up the hushed, ugly dialogue between the men and the woman.

"Look, Alya," one of the men, a thick-necked guy who looked like he’d spent his life eating bricks, sneered. "Our boss is done waiting. You either sign the buyout, or we make sure your 'firm' doesn't make it to Monday morning."

Alya didn't flinch, though a tiny muscle in her jaw twitched. "You’re trespassing, Ratu. I don’t negotiate with thugs who lack the intelligence to understand a standard contract."

Ratu laughed, a grating sound. "Contracts don't matter when you're in the hospital, sweetheart."

Bara felt a sudden, sharp spike of irritation. It wasn't just the justice of the situation—it was the fact that these idiots were standing between him and his first power boost. He stepped into the light of the streetlamp, his silhouette long and distorted by the flickering neon.

"Excuse me," Bara said. His voice, usually a nervous stutter, came out smooth and resonant, vibrating with an authority that made the goons pause.

Ratu turned, squinting at Bara’s mud-stained clothes. "Beat it, kid. You lost?"

"I’m here for the lady," Bara said, walking forward. "And you’re blocking my path."

"Your path?" Ratu scoffed, reaching for his jacket pocket, likely for a weapon.

Bara moved. He didn't know how he moved, only that the space between him and Ratu suddenly vanished. He gripped Ratu’s wrist—the one reaching for the weapon—and twisted. There was a sickening pop, a yelp of genuine surprise, and Ratu was face-down on the concrete before he could blink.

The other two goons froze, their brains struggling to process how the scruffy kid had suddenly become a blur of violence.

"Run," Bara said, his golden-slit eyes flashing for a brief heartbeat as he looked at them.

They didn't wait for a second invitation. They scrambled into the car, leaving Ratu behind to groan and limp away into the shadows.

Bara turned to Alya. She was staring at him, her icy composure shattered into a million pieces of confusion and mild shock. She adjusted her glasses, her eyes scanning him with a mix of suspicion and intrigue.

"Who are you?" she asked, her voice cool but lacking its previous bite.

"Someone who hates bullies," Bara said, forcing his heartbeat to slow down. The System hummed, radiating a cooling sensation toward his thumb. The Mint Essence was close. He stepped closer, his senses overwhelmed by the scent—clean, crisp, and impossibly refreshing.

Alya took a step back, instinctively wary, but she didn't call for more security. "You’re injured."

Bara looked down at his thumb, where the jade pendant had cut him. He held it up near her sleeve. The System flared. —Essence absorption: 5%... 15%... 30%...—

"It's nothing," he said, breathless as a wave of clarity washed over his brain. "I’m Bara. And I think we need to talk about your firm’s current investment in the Eastern Tech sector."

Alya arched a perfectly groomed eyebrow. "You know about that? That information isn't public."

"I know it's failing," Bara replied, his mind suddenly flooded with data points, charts, and patterns he hadn't known a minute ago. "You're trying to pivot to AI integration, but your current hardware supply chain is tethered to a company that's about to be hit with an international trade sanction next Tuesday. If you don't dump that stock before the market opens on Monday, you’ll lose everything."

Alya froze. The air between them turned electric. She was used to being the smartest person in any room, but the way this mud-covered stranger was staring at her with those strange, intense eyes made her feel like he was looking through her soul.

"Why are you telling me this?" she asked.

"Because I need a job," Bara lied smoothly, his reckless smile returning. "And I have a feeling I’m going to be very, very good at helping you win."

Alya looked at her empty tea house, then back at the strange man. She was a woman of logic, but the sheer absurdity of the situation—the way the street suddenly felt quiet, the way he seemed to exude a strange, calming aura—pulled at her curiosity.

"You look like you've been living in a dumpster, Bara," Alya noted, though she finally offered a faint, skeptical smile. "But if you're right about the sanctions, I’ll be ruined. If you’re wrong, I’ll have you arrested for stalking."

"Fair," Bara said.

Alya sighed, checking her watch. "Come in. You’re buying me a cup of tea, and you’re going to explain how you know about those sanctions. If you’re a fraud, I’m calling the police. If you’re not... maybe we can discuss an entry-level analyst position."

Bara walked toward the glass doors of the Tea House, the System’s timer hitting 00:00.

—Task Complete: Vitality Restoration. Core stability: Stable. Reward: Ability unlocked: [Market Foresight].—

A rush of information hit his brain—an invisible web of numbers, graphs, and future trends that made the world look like a massive, interconnected puzzle waiting to be solved. He looked at Alya, who was walking ahead of him with that graceful, expensive stride. He didn't just see a businesswoman anymore; he saw a symphony of potential.

"You won't regret this," he said.

Alya stopped and glanced back over her shoulder, a glimmer of amusement in her eyes. "Don't get cocky, kid. I'm a hard boss."

Bara chuckled, the sound deep and dangerous. "I'm a hard worker, Alya. You have no idea."

As they stepped inside the dim, quiet lounge of the Tea House, the System pulsed one final time, a warm, golden light blooming in the center of his consciousness. The dragon was awake, and for the first time in his life, Bara wasn't the punchline—he was the one holding the cards.

Bara stepped off the subway, his boots clicking against the pavement with a rhythmic, grounded authority. The city was beginning to wake up, the orange glow of dawn bleeding over the skyline, but his mind was already miles ahead, calculating the logistics of the day. The System’s notification chime sounded like a soft bell in his inner ear.—Status: 3/7 Essences acquired. Next objective: Expansion. The starlet was the darling of the city’s entertainment scene, but her life had become a gilded cage. A stalker had moved from writing obsessive fan mail to leaving chilling, hyper-specific photographs on her vanity. The world slowed to a crawl. He saw the tension in the assassin’s shoulder, the slight pivot of her weight, and the trajectory of the strike. The System flared, projecting a faint red path onto the rooftop.—Hostile Combatant: Serigala. Threat Level: High. Recommendation: Utilize [Dragon’s Parry].—Bara didn't dodge. • Chapter 5: The Underground Queen

The air outside the gala felt thin and cold compared to the heated, ego-drenched atmosphere of the ballroom, but for Bara, the night was far from over. He stood by the curb, his tuxedo jacket slung over one shoulder, while Sari clung to his arm. She was still vibrating from the thrill of the take-down."You really embarrassed them," Sari said, her eyes wide. "I don't think I've ever seen Adrian look so much like a cornered rat. You actually did it, Bara."Bara checked the System interface, which was pulsing with a faint, rhythmic amber glow. —Objective: Expansion. Next Essence: Cabai. Location: The Iron Cellar.—"The night is young, Sari," Bara said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He felt a surge of possessiveness and warmth—the Heart of the Loyal humming in his chest. "But I have one more errand to run. It's a bit rough around the edges, so I want you to head back to the apartment. I’ll meet you there in an hour."Sari hesitated, biting her lip. "The Iron Cellar? • Chapter 4: The First Slap

The city lights seemed to bow before Bara as he exited the luxury sedan, his silhouette sharp against the backdrop of the Zenith Gala. He wasn't the man who had been tossed into the gutter; he was a man who owned the gutter, the street, and the building that loomed ahead. Beside him, Sari looked transformed in a shimmering emerald gown, her nervousness masked by the protective, warm aura that Bara’s [Heart of the Loyal] ability constantly radiated."Are you sure about this?" Sari whispered, clutching his arm. "If they have security like they did at the Grand Aurelia, we’re going to be out on the sidewalk before you can even say 'hello'."Bara adjusted his cufflinks, the black silk of his bespoke suit feeling like a second skin. It felt like a low-frequency hum, a constant reminder that he was no longer just a man—he was a vessel.Alya led him to a corner table, her movements fluid and unhurried. She didn't offer a drink immediately; she simply watched him, her gaze analytical and sharp."You're a strange boy, Bara," she said, her voice dropping the icy edge it held outside. "Most people would be trembling after nearly being pulverized by Ratu’s hired muscle. You, however, look like you just finished a light jog."Bara sat, his posture naturally correcting itself. He caught his reflection in the polished silver of a teapot nearby. His eyes had returned to their normal
