One held a baby, eyes wide. One clutched an old barrel gun, half-hidden under a coat. All of them watching Ember. She stepped from the Hearth in bare feet, spiral stone woven into her palm bandage. At each shoulder: Callen and Savi, the hush and the hum brushing their spines.
