“Adrian.” Vanessa called out in a weak voice but he was already gone.
She had signed the divorce thinking he was bluffing but he was serious. Her heart felt like it was being slowly dragged out of her chest.
I never should have signed them. She thought to herself. But the strange ache in her chest only grew stronger.
For years, he had been by her side and had done everything that would make her happy and no matter how unreasonable she acted, Adrian has always been by her side.
She remembered when she cried for days and was depressed that Lawson's group was failing under her hand. He was the one that had motivated her and also made sure she didn't give up.
But the moment everything began to work out so well she had slowly started to take it all for granted but just as the saying goes, you never know the value of what you have until you lose it.
“…Did I really go too far?” She bit her lips as she turned back to look at Marcus while hiding her trembling and cold hands.
Her voice came out soft and tears hung at the corner of her eyes.
She had always thought he would leave because he loved her but he walked away so decisively that it terrified her.
Marcus' eyes flickered slightly. He realized that she was feeling too emotional for Adrian and that was bad for him but if he stepped in now and served as a landing spot for her she would forget him.
“Of course not.” He replied in a comforting tone.
Vanessa looked up slowly and sighed helplessly. “You think so?” She asked.
He nodded. “You’ve already lowered yourself enough for him today,” he said softly. “But he kept pushing you so don't blame yourself.”
“No, that's all of this. We shouldn't have done all this in front of him.” She shook her head.
“Honestly… I think the problem isn’t you.” He held her shoulders gently.
Vanessa stared at him with watery eyes. “What do you mean?”
Marcus hesitated deliberately. As though struggling to say something difficult.
Then finally he sighed and said it slowly.
“I think he may already have someone else.”
Vanessa’s pupils contracted violently. “What?”
Marcus lowered his gaze. “At first, I didn’t want to tell you,” he said carefully. “But think about it… doesn’t his recent behavior seem strange?”
Her heartbeat suddenly sped up. Strange? She thought about it. He had started arguing more, becoming distant and now he suddenly wants a divorce.
Marcus looked at her with pity in his eyes.
“A man doesn’t become this cold overnight unless his heart already belongs to someone else.”
Vanessa’s breathing instantly became uneven because deep down a horrifying thought had already started forming in her mind.
Vanessa’s chest tightened violently. “How sure are you about this?”
Marcus sighed again, then slowly took out his phone.
“Actually… after he left earlier, I was worried about you.”
His voice softened. “So I asked someone to follow him for a bit.”
Vanessa immediately looked up. “And… they found this.”
He turned the phone screen toward her. The moment she saw the photos her entire body froze. Inside the pictures Adrian sat across from a stunning woman in an upscale café.
The woman was elegant and very beautiful. She was the kind of woman that would even make her intimated.
Yet it was the way she looked at Adrian with so much warmth in her eyes.
Vanessa’s mind exploded.
Marcus carefully observed her reaction before continuing softly. “They seemed very close like it had been going on for a long time.”
That completely ignited her emotions and all the guilt she had been feeling moments ago vanished instantly replaced by fury.
That was the real reason for his indifference and coldness with the divorce. Everything suddenly made sense. He had betrayed her first!
Vanessa’s eyes reddened immediately.
Her voice shook violently. “I knew something was wrong…”
Marcus stepped beside her quietly.
“I didn’t want you to get hurt,” he said softly. “But I also didn’t want you being deceived.” Marcus said as he slipped the phone inside his pockets.
Vanessa suddenly rushed toward the office window. She searched the exit of the company, he should be exiting the building already.
Just as she expected he came into view. He walked out the gates and just parked by the curbs was a black Rolls Royce.
Hey eyebrows pressed together in confusion but then she saw it all.
The same lady she saw in the photographs was standing beside the car. They stopped in front of each other and mumbled a few words before they both entered the car.
Vanessa’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Her blood boiled instantly and she slammed her hand against the glass.
She turned around and stormed past Marcus who was very much surprised that Adrian could pull another beauty like that.
“So this is why…” Her voice trembled with rage. “He was cheating on me!”
“If he wants to embarrass me like this…” A dangerous look appeared in her eyes. “Then I’ll catch them personally.” She said in an icy tone.
He followed her and they went down the elevator and in a few minutes he was driving her in chase of the black car.
The black Rolls Royce car moved steadily through traffic before finally slowing near the towering headquarters of Orion Holdings.
Even from outside, the building radiated so much prestige.
Inside the car, Adrian sat quietly in the backseat. He felt a wave of exhaustion after everything that had happened.
The car slowly turned toward the underground parking entrance but suddenly—
SCREEECH!
A white Maserati shot across the lane and slammed sideways in front of them.
The driver immediately hit the brakes. The tires screeched violently against the road.
Emilia's eyes turned cold instantly. “What?” She leaned forward. The Maserati was horizontally parked right in front of them.
Adrian frowned slightly and looked through the window
Then he saw her. Vanessa stepped out of the car with fury written all over her face.
Behind her, Marcus also emerged slowly, wearing an expression filled with fake concern and poorly hidden mockery.
Adrian closed his eyes briefly. How troublesome could this get.

Adrian couldn't move. The photograph remained between his fingers. His grandmother's face stared back at him.Older, softer but unmistakable. The man's expression remained unreadable."You're not ready." Adrian laughed bitterly."Don't tell me what I'm ready for."His eyes glistened. "I've spent half my life being told what I could and couldn't know.""My father died and I was sent away. My entire identity was hidden from me."He lifted the photograph and now you're standing here telling me my grandmother is alive."His voice cracked."So don't you dare tell me I'm not ready."The man's expression finally softened. "Then listen."Adrian waited. "Your grandmother survived the accident."Adrian's chest tightened. "But she was badly injured. She was unconscious for weeks. By the time she woke up..."The man paused. At the bottom of the staircase stood a man he never expected to see there.Adrian's expression changed. Not anger or fear.Something worse and disbelief."Why are you here?" The man slowly raised his eyes.He didn't answer. Adrian descended another step."Why are you here?" His voice was quieter this time. The man finally smiled.
