Anniversary Gift
“You can’t go in. Mrs.Vanessa and her gentleman are upstairs hosting a celebration banquet.” A guard stepped directly into his path. “What?” Adrian asked, confused. He wondered what he meant by ‘gentleman.’ The guard looked him up and down, taking in his simple clothes. “They aren’t accepting visitors without an appointment,” he said, gesturing for him to leave, scorn clearly written across his face."A gentleman?" He muttered. The words confused him. If she had a gentleman upstairs, then what was he?For three years of marriage, he had never once set foot inside Lawson Industries. That was Vanessa's rule. She said she didn’t want him to interfere with her professional space, but today was their third anniversary and he decided to surprise her. He held a bouquet and a small gift box–gold earrings. A replacement for the ones she said she had misplaced a week ago. No. This had to be some misunderstanding. Adrian swallowed hard and his fingers tightened around the gift box."There mu
Breaking point
The next morning, a while after the break of dawn, Adrian was in the living room when he heard the door open with a soft click. Adrian turned and saw Vanessa walking in with Marcus by her side, her arm loosely draped around his neck as they both helped each other to walk. They both reeked of alcohol. Vannessa's dress was creased and wrinkled beyond recognition, with threads hanging from it as if it had been forced open. Marcus' shirt was the same. It was wrinkled and missing a few buttons. He made eye contact with Marcus and he could smell Vanessa's perfume all over him. Adrian only glanced at them and looked away. Vanessa was surprised that Adrian didn’t welcome her. It felt strange, but she suddenly understood.“Oh, you don’t have to worry. Marcus came with me because we still had some business to handle. We will go upstairs, don't disturb us, we will be very busy.”He had already come to terms with her betrayal but bringing him home? Vanessa shrugged her coat off her shoulders
Coffee and decisions
“I’m happy to see you, young master.” She bowed her head slightly then looked up at him with a bright smile on her face. Adrian stood there for a moment, looking past her at the men in black suits standing like statues behind her. Then back at her. This was Emilia Caldwell. The hotshot CEO everyone spoke about. He’d seen her everywhere—magazine covers, interviews, headlines. On camera, she appeared cold with an aloof demeanor, a direct opposite of her smiling so friendly in front of him now.Even the richest man in West Brook city hadn’t been able to get her attention. The oil mogul had pursued her before, but she didn't give him the chance. Rumors had it that he had pursued her relentlessly for two years — flowers, very expensive gifts, private jet offers, entire islands booked out just to impress her. But she didn't even give him a proper answer and just outrightly ignored him. But here she was, beaming a sweet smile at him as if she had known him for a long time. Her face lit
Three years too late
Vanessa’s furious voice exploded through the speaker instantly."Adrian, have you completely lost your mind?! Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” She yelled at him. Adrian said nothing and that only seemed to infuriate her more. “What you did was totally unacceptable! Marcus had to get stitches because of your little outburst!” Her breathing was uneven with anger.“Come back here right now to apologize to him.” She barked. Adrian had an amused expression on his face as he leaned against the glass, his eyes on the city below, but he still didn't say anything. “Also you left without making breakfast. That was very rude of you.” Vanessa rambled on. “I'm busy,” he told her as he just glanced at Emilia, who was gracefully sitting at the table. She tapped her phone lightly with her slender, well-manicured fingers looking breathtaking like she stepped out of a painting. “You must think this is a joke, but you must come to the company and apologize to Marcus properly in front of ev
Adrian Demands
“Here is a special pass card. Show it to the front desk and you’ll be directed to Ms. Vanessa’s office.” The security guard at the entrance stuttered as he handed him the card.Shortly after talking with Vanessa he arrived at Lawson's company. This was the second time he was coming here but this time the security guard greeted him with respect while bowing his head slightly. Staff members walked past him without glancing at him much and when he got to the front desk he showed them the special pass card he had been given by the security and they waved him through. He stepped out of the elevator and her office was in sight with her name tag, CEO office. He walked straight towards it and pushed the door open. He first heard a soft Laughter but when the doors flew open. There was Vanessa sitting on Marcus's lap. They were both on the couch engrossed with chattering and laughing that they didn't even notice him. Their faces were so close like they were about to kiss Marcus just held
Reality Check
Vanessa's heart raced. Never would she have believed that Adrian would be the one that served her a divorce. She always saw herself in control and someone that she could tame to serve her. “Why are you bringing up a divorce?” She demanded, her voice rising sharply as panic clawed its way into her chest. “ I thought you loved me so what exactly are you trying to do?”“I don’t love you anymore.” Adrian shook his head. Vanessa felt like a stone slab had slammed into her chest. Even her heart skipped a beat. He no longer loved her? How could that be possible? She didn't believe that. She just felt he was playing this card to get her attention. She just had to play out her charm and he would be back under her leash. “Adrian. You're just overreacting, let's talk about this.” Her voice trembled and her hands moved up his arm but Adrian shook his hand off. Vanessa froze. She stared at his back in disbelief, her fingers tightening uncontrollably at her sides realizing he was very much se
Wild chase.
“Adrian.” Vanessa called out in a weak voice but he was already gone. She had signed the divorce thinking he was bluffing but he was serious. Her heart felt like it was being slowly dragged out of her chest. I never should have signed them. She thought to herself. But the strange ache in her chest only grew stronger. For years, he had been by her side and had done everything that would make her happy and no matter how unreasonable she acted, Adrian has always been by her side. She remembered when she cried for days and was depressed that Lawson's group was failing under her hand. He was the one that had motivated her and also made sure she didn't give up. But the moment everything began to work out so well she had slowly started to take it all for granted but just as the saying goes, you never know the value of what you have until you lose it. “…Did I really go too far?” She bit her lips as she turned back to look at Marcus while hiding her trembling and cold hands. Her voice came
Blinded by Rage
“I’ll have security remove them,” Beside him, Emilia's expression darkened. She hadn't yet figured out what was going on but she brought out her phone and dialed a number. But Adrian shook his head.“No need.” He opened the car door calmly.“Stay here.” He calmly said but Emilia instinctively grabbed his wrist. Her brows furrowed slightly. “Are you sure it's safe?” Adrian gave her a faint look. “I'll handle it.” For a second, Vanessa stared at him quietly. Then she slowly released him.“Fine,” she said softly. “But if they cross the line…”Her voice turned icy. “I won’t be polite.”Adrian stepped out and walked towards Vanessa and Marcus. Across from him, Vanessa looked furious enough to explode. The moment she saw him the last shred of restraint inside her vanished completely.“So I finally caught you.” she sneered.Adrian’s face remained expressionless.“If you’re here to take back the divorce papers you're wasting your time,” he said calmly. Vanessa laughed but her eyes were a
Fiery Damsel
“Miss Emilia…” she said hurriedly with a flustered expression. “This is all a misunderstanding. I was only trying to catch someone cheating. I didn’t know it was you…”Vanessa narrowed her eyes slightly. “Catch someone cheating?”Her calm tone somehow carried even more pressure than shouting.Vanessa's scalp tingled. “I mean…” She was tongue tied and all the haughty expression on her face was replaced with a pale look. Marcus suddenly stepped forward. “Miss you may not know the full story but this man has been emotionally unstable lately. He’s been suspecting his wife constantly and causing scenes everywhere.” He said quickly.Marcus continued shamelessly, “We found out he is a cheat and he suddenly asked for a divorce today.” He turned to look at Vanessa. Who also nodded affirming what he was saying. “We just came here to catch him in the act and coincidentally he seems to have run into you. Anyone would misunderstand.” Marcus spoke so smoothly anyone would literally buy the story.
