Ethan Cole died in the throne room he had built over ten years of storms, monster tides, and hungry winters.

The hall of the Ocean Crown shook under cannon fire. His banners burned outside the windows. Men who had eaten from his stores and sailed under his protection now stood behind Victoria Cole.

His stepmother looked as calm as ever. Her silver hair was pinned neatly. Her white gloves had no dust on them.

“You made a fine kingdom, Ethan,” Victoria said. “But you were never meant to own it.”

Julian Cole stood beside her in Ethan’s sea-king armor. It hung badly on him, but his smile was bright with greed.

“Don’t look so wounded,” Julian said. “You were always Father’s mistake. I’m just taking back the family investment.”

Richard Cole did not smile. That hurt more.

Ethan leaned on his cracked spear and stared at the man who had raised him like a spare tool. “I saved your ships. I paid your debts. I sent you cores when your own ports starved.”

Richard adjusted his cuff. “And now your assets must return to proper management. The Cole name cannot be tied to a common sea tyrant.”

Victoria lifted a black contract stone. Ethan felt the ownership chains in his territory core twist.

Julian came close and lowered his voice. “Next time, build something smaller.”

Julian drove Ethan's own core blade through the seal in his chest. The kingdom vanished from Ethan's senses. His last sight was Richard turning away while Victoria claimed the throne.

Then Ethan opened his eyes to a System notice he had seen twenty years ago.

[System Transfer Day initiated.]

[Welcome, Survivor Ethan Cole.]

[You have been assigned a starting territory.]

[Zone: Dead Sea.]

[Territory Grade: Ruined Hut.]

[Territory Core: Damaged Basic Core.]

[Beginner Protection: 7 days. Other survivors cannot directly attack your territory. Monsters and hazards are not restricted.]

He rolled off the straw mat and checked the hut. One room. Three broken walls. A roof patched with kelp rope. A territory core the size of a fist sat in a stone bowl, gray and weak.

Dead Sea.

But years later, he had learned the truth. The Dead Sea hid ancient ruins under its cursed reefs.

The Blue Dragon Ruins.

[Rot-Shell Crab. Level 1.]

A claw punched through the rotten wall beside his head.

Ethan dropped under the second swing and seized a loose roof spike. The crab forced half its shell into the hut, trapping itself between two broken beams. He remembered that weak joint from thousands of later hunts.

He struck under the left eye. The spike slipped. A claw cut his shoulder and threw him against the core bowl.

Pain cleared the last doubt. This was not a dream, and his old strength had not returned with his memory.

The crab charged again. Ethan kicked the damaged wall brace loose. The beam fell across its claw. He drove the spike through the exposed joint, twisted, and held on until the monster stopped moving.

Beginner protection did not stop monsters. He had forgotten nothing.

[Monster Core acquired: Rot-Shell Core, Low Grade.]

His damaged territory core pulsed weakly from the bowl inside the hut. Repairing it would be smart. Food and walls mattered.

A strip of blue metal was lodged in the creature’s back, grown over by barnacles. It was not random scrap. It bore a dragon-scale pattern and three tiny notches along one edge.

Ethan washed it in seawater. The notches pointed north-east by tide pull, not by compass. He remembered old sailors dying for such markers years later.

The Blue Dragon path had found him on the first day.

Ethan looked at the hut, the weak core, and the blue marker in his hand.

He fed half the crab core into the territory core. The gray light strengthened by a thread.

[Emergency repair available: Wall brace, 1 hour.]

The sea hissed beyond the stones. Somewhere under it waited a ruin no public guide had ever mapped.

Ethan closed his fist around the blue marker.

He had seven days of beginner protection. The horn suggested the tide’s hunting pack would reach his boundary in hours, not days. That changed the plan.

Crab tracks and overturned shells marked a path heading northeast. Each few paces the blue marker’s edge warmed as if it tugged him forward.

Ethan moved quick and quiet. He counted risks. He had limited healing without cores to spare. A prolonged fight would bleed him dry. But the marker offered a clue and possibly reward. In his first life, he had followed a similar trail and found a sealed stair to ruin that later fed an entire fleet.

Ahead, barnacle-carved stones rose from the shallows. The Blue Dragon motif peeked in friezes under weed. Ethan felt his chest tighten. This was the right line.

He crawled forward and found a half-buried crest: a carved dragon head with three notches on its jaw. The blue strip would fit into a groove there.

He wrapped the blue marker in oilcloth and tucked it into his shirt. Then he stepped onto the stair and went down.

[Ancient Node detected: Blue Dragon Minor Node. Level: Unknown.]

He could take it, use it here, or seal the chamber and wait for better tools. Time was against him—the horn’s sound had grown closer. He needed progress, not safety.

He pressed the spike into the crystal’s base and pulled. The node detached with a pop and a rush of cool, dry air. The chamber’s glyphs glowed faint blue and a gentle current of knowledge brushed his mind: a map fragment showing a deeper stair, a crate symbol, and a warning of a guardian beyond.

[Ancient Node acquired: Blue Dragon Minor Node. Effect: Reveals nearby Blue Dragon route and single-use map fragment. Single use. Consumes on activation.]

Ethan exhaled. He had a path, a tiny reward, and a clear risk. He slid the node into a cloth pouch, tied it to his belt, and climbed back toward the surface with the tide pressing at his heels.

Above, the hunting horn sounded again—closer and angrier. Shapes moved over the reef where he had walked. Beginner protection would not stop the pack forever.

He reached his boundary line with a plan. He had repaired one wall brace, gained a low-grade core, and secured a route into the Blue Dragon Ruins. It was not much. It was enough.

He lay back on the straw mat and smiled once, small and dangerous. He was not a king yet. He was not invincible. He had a plan and a map fragment that started the line to the Blue Dragon Ruins.

“They don’t know I’m alive,” he whispered. “Not yet.”

Julian Cole arrived with twelve boats, two contract breakers, and a banner too large for the Dead Sea wind.He came at noon, when public channels were busiest. That was Richard’s hand. Witnesses could become weapons if controlled early. The North Sea Kingdom had seven people, one floating foundation, a damaged fence, and three working traps.Ethan had also prepared the battlefield. He moved the visible route markers the night before. The safe approach still existed, but the obvious path now crossed a shallow reef lined with shell spikes and storm-rope snares.Mira watched from the dock. “He brought more than hunters.”“He brought an audience.”Julian’s lead boat stopped outside beginner-protection range. He wore polished armor that had never met a crab claw. His hair was perfect despite the salt wind.A public broadcast shell floated over his shoulder.“Dead Sea occupants,” Julian announced. “I am Julian Cole of the Cole Group. Your so-called North Sea Kingdom is under investigation f

  • Chapter 9: Foundation That Floats

Afixed hut could survive a week.A kingdom in the Dead Sea needed movement.Ethan opened the Storm Anchor blueprint at dawn and combined it with the Blue Dragon Seed’s dock options. He ran the simulation three times and failed twice. The third attempt produced a new structure and one System warning about instability.[Floating Foundation Frame: Basic.][Requires: 20 wood units, 8 shell plates, 3 low-grade cores, storm-treated rope, labor time: 9 hours.]They had half the wood and no storm-treated rope.So the day became trade, salvage, and trust management.Lani proved useful first. She remembered where a supply raft had lodged after the storm. Mira led a two-person salvage team while Ethan stayed to manage the core and watch recruits. The one recruit who worried him was Tomas Reed.Tomas had arrived with Lani’s second survivor group near midnight. He was polite, quick with knots, and too interested in the core shelter. He kept talking about his sister in another zone and needing trad

  • Chapter 8: The North Sea Kingdom

Ethan read the public anger and the private threat, then turned both into fuel. The Black-Tide Serpent mission still pulsed over the core. If they failed, an elite monster would nest beside them. If they won, they gained the anchor blueprint needed to survive larger attacks.Mira tightened her shoulder wrap. “Plan?”“Make it fight the storm, not us.”They used every recovered resource. The broken Rain Catcher frame became a lure mast. The hunter pole became a harpoon shaft. Three crab cores charged fence spikes around the north shallows.Ethan used the Storm Core from the hatchling to form a temporary Storm Eye Marker, a weak Blue Dragon option that predicted one safe gap in the wind.[Storm Eye Marker duration: 22 minutes.]The serpent arrived at the edge of the storm eye.It was longer than their hut, black-scaled, with blue lightning crawling under its skin. Level 5. Elite. Too strong for two wounded survivors in a fair fight. So Ethan offered it unfair ground.Mira stood on the do

  • Chapter 7: Hunters at the Fence

Ethan did not chase the Black-Tide Serpent at once.Only fools ran into elite monsters while wounded and half-flooded. First came repairs, then traps, then timing. But another enemy arrived before the storm eye.The Tide Fence chimed in a pattern Ethan had set for human movement.Mira crouched by the door, shoulder bound tight. “Cole?”“Likely.”Three rafts emerged through the rainbreak. Six survivors rode them. They stayed just outside the territory boundary, which meant someone had explained beginner protection.Their leader wore a clean blue coat with the Cole crest stitched over the heart. Not family. A paid contract hunter. He raised a speaking shell. “Dead Sea survivor. Cole Group offers rescue and patronage. Lower your fence and submit core inspection.”Mira muttered, “That sounds friendly if words mean nothing.”The hunter smiled. “Beginner protection prevents us from attacking your territory directly. It does not prevent salvage, monster driving, or lawful trade enforcement.”

  • Chapter 6: Black Storm Warning

The sky turned green before noon.Ethan stopped repairing the south fence and looked east. A wall of cloud crawled across the Dead Sea, low and heavy, swallowing the horizon.Mira followed his gaze. “Normal?”“No. Black storm.”She did not ask why he knew. That trust saved time.A black storm was not just weather. It carried monster eggs, corrosive rain, and pressure waves that could flip light huts. In the first life, Ethan had lost his roof and two fingers to one on day four. This one was early.Changing events had begun to bend the timeline.Ethan opened the core menu. They had two low-grade crab cores, one eel sliver, four planks, copper wire, canvas, and not enough time.“Priorities,” he said. “Core stays dry. Fence takes the first surge. Dock gets cut loose if it starts pulling the territory apart.”Mira nodded. “Food?”“Inside. Water sealed. No fire after the wind turns.”They worked hard and spoke little.Ethan spent one crab core on Storm Lashings, a Blue Dragon Seed option t

  • Chapter 5: Public Water, Private Knives

On the second morning, the public channel discovered Ethan. It began with rankings.[Regional Notice: First Dead Sea territory to stabilize a damaged core.][Name hidden by ancient concealment.][Reward: 1 low-grade repair voucher.]The zone channel erupted at once.“Dead Sea has survivors?”“Stabilized already? Impossible.”“Cole Group offers protection contracts for useful information.”Cole influence had entered the sea world faster than he remembered. Richard always moved early when rankings appeared. In the first timeline, Ethan had been too poor to notice.Mira leaned over his shoulder. “Cole Group. Related to you?”“Worse than monsters, because monsters admit what they want.”A small raft drifted outside the boundary. Two boys and one girl stood on it. All eighteen. All wet, hungry, and armed with sharpened poles.Their leader raised both hands. “We don’t want trouble. We want water. Trade.”Mira whispered, “The rear one is hiding a hook rope.”Ethan saw it. Beginner protection
