Ethan read the public anger and the private threat, then turned both into fuel.

The Black-Tide Serpent mission still pulsed over the core. If they failed, an elite monster would nest beside them. If they won, they gained the anchor blueprint needed to survive larger attacks.

Mira tightened her shoulder wrap. “Plan?”

“Make it fight the storm, not us.”

They used every recovered resource. The broken Rain Catcher frame became a lure mast. The hunter pole became a harpoon shaft. Three crab cores charged fence spikes around the north shallows.

Ethan used the Storm Core from the hatchling to form a temporary Storm Eye Marker, a weak Blue Dragon option that predicted one safe gap in the wind.

[Storm Eye Marker duration: 22 minutes.]

The serpent arrived at the edge of the storm eye.

It was longer than their hut, black-scaled, with blue lightning crawling under its skin. Level 5. Elite. Too strong for two wounded survivors in a fair fight.

So Ethan offered it unfair ground.

Mira stood on the dock stump and struck the lure mast with metal until the serpent turned. Ethan dragged the stormspawn remains across the shallows, adding blood scent.

The serpent lunged.

“Back!” Ethan shouted.

Mira jumped aside. The serpent crossed the fence line and triggered the first spike. It pierced scale but did not stop the monster.

The second spike hit deeper. The serpent thrashed, smashing two fence sections and flooding the yard.

Ethan threw the harpoon into the wound made by the first spike. Mira tied the cord around a boundary post reinforced by Storm Lashings.

The serpent pulled. The post cracked.

Ethan fed the last core into the territory core. “Anchor the post.”

[Insufficient materials for permanent anchor.]

“Temporary!”

[Temporary anchoring confirmed. Duration: 40 seconds.]

The cord snapped tight. The serpent’s head swung toward Ethan, jaws open.

He dove under the broken dock beam. Teeth crushed wood above him. Splinters struck his back.

Mira ran along the flooded fence and drove her spear into the serpent’s eye ridge.

It recoiled.

The storm eye shifted. Wind returned in a hard wall.

Ethan saw the timing. “Cut the cord on three!”

Mira did not question him.

“One.”

The serpent pulled again, dragging the anchored post sideways.

“Two.”

Lightning gathered under its scales.

“Three!”

Mira cut the cord. Ethan released the temporary anchor.

The serpent’s own strength sent it whipping backward into the black storm surge. The returning wind slammed it against the reef notch where Ethan had nearly died on the route to the ruins.

Its body struck stone. The harpoon shaft drove deeper.

Ethan and Mira attacked together before it recovered.

Ethan stabbed under the jaw with the roof spike. Mira used the broken spear on the exposed wound. The serpent convulsed once, then sagged into the shallows.

[Elite Monster defeated: Black-Tide Serpent.]

[Mission complete.]

[Rewards granted: Storm Anchor Blueprint, 5 territory expansion points, Black-Tide Elite Core.]

Ethan fell to one knee. Mira sat down hard in the mud.

Neither cheered. They were too tired.

Then the territory core rang like a bell.

[Requirements met for Settlement Declaration:]

[Population: 2 or more.]

[Stabilized special core.]

[Defended against survivor aggression.]

[Defeated local elite monster.]

[Constructed water, defense, and dock facilities.]

[Available act: Found named settlement.]

Mira looked at him. “You said kingdom after breakfast.”

“I did.”

“This is bigger than a settlement name.”

“The System starts small. Names shape paths.”

Ethan opened the declaration screen. In the first life, he had named his kingdom Ocean Crown after years of war. That name had been stolen, corrupted, and used on banners behind Victoria.

He would not reclaim a stolen name.

He would build a new one.

[Enter settlement name.]

Ethan spoke clearly, with the public channel open.

“North Sea Kingdom.”

Mira raised an eyebrow. “We are in the Dead Sea.”

“For now.”

The core accepted it.

[System Notice: North Sea Kingdom established in the Dead Sea Zone.]

[Founder: Hidden by ancient concealment.]

[Ruler title: Provisional Lord.]

[Kingdom path locked until territory grade increases.]

[Immediate effects: Recruitment capacity increased to 10. Basic law board unlocked. Storm Anchor construction available. Territory boundary expanded by 5 points.]

The public channels exploded.

“Kingdom? On day two?”

“System recognized it?”

“Dead Sea survivor is insane.”

“Cole Group statement pending.”

Opposition came within minutes.

A Cole broker posted, “Unauthorized use of sovereign terminology may mislead survivors. Cole Group advises avoidance of the so-called North Sea Kingdom.”

Ethan posted once.

“North Sea Kingdom offers water, storm shelter work, and fair contracts to survivors able to reach Dead Sea north reef. No forced loyalty. No protection debt.”

Mira added, after asking permission, “Bring materials or useful hands. Liars get no second contract.”

The first reply came from the ashamed girl they had traded with.

“This is Lani. I have two survivors and one raft. Requesting approach route.”

Mira smiled slightly. “Friend, not leader.”

“Send route three, not one,” Ethan said. “Safer after serpent blood clears.”

They built the Storm Anchor base before resting. It consumed the Black-Tide Elite Core partially, three reef stones, copper wire remnants, and most of the serpent’s scale plates.

[Storm Anchor base complete.]

[Effect: Reduces storm displacement and corrosion within territory. Can be upgraded.]

The boundary expanded over the reef notch and half the broken dock area. The hut no longer stood alone in mud. It had a yard, a safer landing point, and a name backed by the System.

Near dusk, Lani’s raft appeared with two thin survivors and a bundle of wood.

Ethan did not make them kneel. He made them read contracts.

One refused and stayed outside with supplies for trade. Two accepted temporary worker status.

Mira organized them to rebuild the Rain Catcher. Ethan set the law board with three rules: no theft, no forced contracts, defense work during attacks.

Small laws. Real laws.

That night, the North Sea Kingdom had five people inside its expanded boundary, clean water dripping again, and an anchor humming against the dying storm.

Far away, Julian watched the public notice repeat.

He threw nothing this time.

Victoria stood beside him. “He wants witnesses. He wants legitimacy.”

Richard’s voice came from the communication shell. “Then we remove both.”

Ethan, unaware of the exact words but certain of the intent, stood by the Storm Anchor and looked at his people.

“Tomorrow,” he said, “we build something that can move.”

The safe approach still existed, but the obvious path now crossed a shallow reef lined with shell spikes and storm-rope snares.Mira watched from the dock. “He brought more than hunters.”“He brought an audience.”Julian’s lead boat stopped outside beginner-protection range. He wore polished armor that had never met a crab claw. His hair was perfect despite the salt wind.A public broadcast shell floated over his shoulder.“Dead Sea occupants,” Julian announced. “I am Julian Cole of the Cole Group. • Chapter 7: Hunters at the Fence

Ethan did not chase the Black-Tide Serpent at once.Only fools ran into elite monsters while wounded and half-flooded. First came repairs, then traps, then timing. But another enemy arrived before the storm eye.The Tide Fence chimed in a pattern Ethan had set for human movement.Mira crouched by the door, shoulder bound tight. “Cole?”“Likely.”Three rafts emerged through the rainbreak. Six survivors rode them. They stayed just outside the territory boundary, which meant someone had explained beginner protection.Their leader wore a clean blue coat with the Cole crest stitched over the heart. Not family. A paid contract hunter. He raised a speaking shell. “Dead Sea survivor. Cole Group offers rescue and patronage. Lower your fence and submit core inspection.”Mira muttered, “That sounds friendly if words mean nothing.”The hunter smiled. “Beginner protection prevents us from attacking your territory directly. It does not prevent salvage, monster driving, or lawful trade enforcement.”

  • Chapter 6: Black Storm Warning

The sky turned green before noon.Ethan stopped repairing the south fence and looked east. A wall of cloud crawled across the Dead Sea, low and heavy, swallowing the horizon.Mira followed his gaze. “Normal?”“No. Black storm.”She did not ask why he knew. That trust saved time.A black storm was not just weather. It carried monster eggs, corrosive rain, and pressure waves that could flip light huts. In the first life, Ethan had lost his roof and two fingers to one on day four. This one was early.Changing events had begun to bend the timeline.Ethan opened the core menu. They had two low-grade crab cores, one eel sliver, four planks, copper wire, canvas, and not enough time.“Priorities,” he said. “Core stays dry. Fence takes the first surge. Dock gets cut loose if it starts pulling the territory apart.”Mira nodded. “Food?”“Inside. Water sealed. No fire after the wind turns.”They worked hard and spoke little.Ethan spent one crab core on Storm Lashings, a Blue Dragon Seed option t

Impossible.”“Cole Group offers protection contracts for useful information.”Cole influence had entered the sea world faster than he remembered. Richard always moved early when rankings appeared. In the first timeline, Ethan had been too poor to notice.Mira leaned over his shoulder. “Cole Group. Related to you?”“Worse than monsters, because monsters admit what they want.”A small raft drifted outside the boundary. Two boys and one girl stood on it. All eighteen. All wet, hungry, and armed with sharpened poles.Their leader raised both hands. “We don’t want trouble. We want water. Trade.”Mira whispered, “The rear one is hiding a hook rope.”Ethan saw it.
