For three years, Alexander lived as the perfect live-in son-in-law — silent, obedient, and invisible. He cooked, cleaned, and supported his wife Aurelia while everyone mocked him as a useless man living off her success. What no one knows is that Alexander is the hidden heir of the powerful Kair family. He gave up his identity, wealth, and future for love… only to be forgotten. On their third anniversary, while he waits alone with gifts she will never open, Aurelia is welcoming another man back into her life. That night, Alexander walks away. But the man she abandoned is no ordinary husband. The hotel she admires belongs to him. The elites she struggles to impress answer to him. And the “worthless” man she dismissed holds the power to destroy — or save — everything she built. Now Aurelia must face one terrifying truth: The husband she ignored was the most powerful man she ever had… and the only one she can never get back.

CHAPTER 1: THE LIVE-IN SON-IN-LAW IS ACTUALLY A BIG SHOT

Alexander learned how invisible a man could become while standing at a sink full of dirty dishes.

Cold water ran over his hands as he scrubbed plates that did not belong to him in a house that never truly felt like his. Soap bubbles slid down his wrists.

Behind him, laughter floated from the living room. The servants were watching television, and no one asked if he needed help.

A plate slipped from the counter and shattered near his feet. One of the maids glanced over, then quickly turned away as if she had seen nothing. He crouched and picked up the broken pieces himself.

For three years, that was how long he had lived here as Aurelia's husband. Three years as the live-in son-in-law everyone politely greeted and secretly pitied, but he had only five days left now.

The agreement would end soon.

He rinsed the final plate and placed it neatly beside the others. His reflection stared back at him from the metal sink, an ordinary face, calm eyes, nothing worth remembering. That is exactly how he preferred it.

If people knew who he really was, this quiet life would disappear overnight.

He dried his hands and carried a basket of laundry upstairs. Aurelia's clothes were soft and expensive, most still carrying a faint jasmine scent. She barely had time to notice things like laundry anymore. What was always on her mind was running a company that consumed her days and most of her nights. So he handled the small parts of her life instead, like cooking, cleaning, and waiting. He never complained, at least not out loud.

Aurelia worked harder than anyone he knew. She chased success like she was afraid to slow down. Even when stomach pain bent her over in silence, she still went to work the next morning.

That was why he stepped away from the company.

Aurelia Cosmetics was named after her, and they founded it together after graduation. He invested the first million dollars that gave it life, but she became its face, its driving force, and watching her succeed felt enough.

He finished hanging the last shirt and checked the time. It was 6:40 PM. A small smile appeared before he could stop it.

Tonight mattered to him a lot. It was their third anniversary.

Downstairs, the dining room glowed with candlelight. He had spent the afternoon preparing everything himself. Her favorite dishes filled the table and warm light softened the quiet space.

Three gifts rested at the center. A silver contract folder, an unlimited black card, and a small velvet box.

Inside the folder was the partnership agreement Aurelia had been chasing for nearly a year. Harbr International. The industry leader. She believed that this opportunity was still out of reach. She did not know he had already secured it.

The velvet box held a pink diamond necklace. Years ago, during college, she had paused outside a jewelry store and stared at one just like it. She never asked for it, but he remembered. He always remembered things about her.

He checked his phone, but there were no messages from her.

He called her.

She answered quickly, but her voice sounded distracted.

"Yes?"

"Are you still at work?" he asked.

"Mm. I'm busy tonight, a lot is going on."

Voices and movement filtered through the line, the busy noise of a crowd somewhere. He hesitated. He wanted to say happy anniversary but instead he said, "Don't work too late."

She sighed softly, not sounding angry but just tired.

"If it's not important, don't call, okay? I'm overwhelmed," she said.

The call ended.

On the other side of the city, Aurelia was not at the office.

She was standing in the open drop-off area outside the airport, holding a welcome banner with both hands, her hair slightly damp from the heat.

Beside her, Vivian was watching her with the particular expression of someone who had a lot to say and was deciding how much of it to actually say.

"So," Vivian started, tilting her head slowly. "A woman who complains about getting a tan if she checks the mailbox is standing outside in the afternoon heat.Holding a banner. After lying to her husband about working overtime."

She paused. "Is it embarrassing to admit you came all this way to pick up your first love?"

Aurelia's face went red so fast it was almost impressive.

"It's a business relationship," she said firmly. "Stop reading into things."

"Right." Vivian pulled out her phone and pretended to be very interested in the screen. "A business relationship. With a handmade welcome banner."

Aurelia ignored her.

She had come in the Rizmo, parked it right at the front. As the CEO of Aurelia Cosmetics, she never picked anyone up personally. She had a driver, an assistant, and a schedule that did not include airport runs. But today was different.

"What are you doing tonight?" Vivian asked.

"Dinner. I booked Stellar Grand."

Vivian lowered her phone. "The whole hotel?"

"The banquet hall. I reserved it three months ago. Family elders are coming, a few business contacts."

A short silence.

"Aurelia," Vivian said carefully. "Your wedding reception was at a nice restaurant. You booked a hotel banquet hall for his first night back."

"That is completely different."

"Is it?"

"A husband and a first love are two completely different things, Vivian."

Vivian opened her mouth, looked at Aurelia's expression, and closed it again.

Then Nah appeared through the arrivals gate, luggage trailing behind him, sunglasses pushed up on his head, easy and unhurried the way he always was, like the world had been quietly rearranging itself to make his entrance smooth.

Aurelia moved before she fully decided to.

She crossed the distance quickly, took the small towel from her bag, and gently pressed it against the sweat on his forehead. Then she held out her water bottle. Her own, already half-drunk.

He took it without hesitating.

"You came yourself," he said, looking at the banner with a small smile.

"Don't make it a big deal," she said.

Vivian, standing three steps back, quietly raised her phone and took a photo.

She looked at it for a second. They were standing close together in the afternoon light, Aurelia looking up at him with something open in her face, Nah looking down at her the way someone looks at something they had been thinking about for a long time.

They really did look good together.

She put her phone in her pocket and said nothing.

Meanwhile, back at the villa, Alexander was sitting at the table with the untouched dinner in front of him and the candles burning lower.

Aurelia had always been this way: endless homework in college, endless work after marriage. Alexander could only be the man behind her, always making allowances.

He was good at waiting.

He looked at the empty chair across from him.

Her grandfather had asked for three years. He had given three years. He had held up his end of every part of this arrangement, quietly, without complaint, and whatever he had expected to feel at the end of it, this particular kind of waiting had not been it.

He was still sitting there when his phone rang.

It was Jake.

He answered. "What happened?"

"Boss, there's trouble," Jake said quickly. "The Black Dragon Gang showed up at the Stellar Grand Hotel. They're planning to smash the place."

Alexander straightened.

"They chose that hotel?"

"Yeah. Their boss says someone powerful is backing them."

He frowned.

Stellar Grand was more than an investment. It was a territory under his protection. No criminal group should have dared touch it unless they wanted to test him.

He glanced once more at the untouched dinner table.

Aurelia would not be home anytime soon.

"Tell them," Alexander said calmly, "the owner of Stellar Grand is coming personally."

He grabbed his jacket and left quietly. He walked out and closed the door behind him.

The cool night air cleared his thoughts as he rode his motorcycle through the city. He had no idea where the night was about to take him.
