The hotel's dining halls were arranged by class. Each hall told guests exactly where they stood in the city.
The VIP dining hall was where Justin, Mirabel, and their friends ate. A single meal there cost $50,000, and it came with a private chef, imported white truffles, and wine most people would never see.
The VVIP dining hall was on another level entirely. A single meal there cost over $200,000, and only guests with at least $1,000,000 in their accounts were allowed to book a table.
Its tables were served by famous chefs who were flown in on request. A single glass from its wine list was worth more than a new car.
Justin and the others stopped at the entrance and watched Jimmy sit down. Mirabel's mouth fell open in disbelief.
"Hey!" Justin called out. "Where do you think you're going?"
Jimmy didn't answer. He picked up the menu and began to read.
Justin's face turned red with anger. He was sure Jimmy had either lost his way or was just trying to act rich in front of them.
Either way, it was a chance to teach him another lesson. This time, they would use the hotel's security, since they couldn't lay a hand on him in a place like this.
Justin waved over two guards and pointed at Jimmy. "That boy doesn't belong here," he said. "Get him out."
The guards knew Justin very well. He was a second-generation rich kid and a regular client, and they always favored rich kids like him.
"He's a nobody," Justin said. "That poor boy can't even afford anything above $100."
"He's an orphan with nothing," Mirabel added. "He came here to beg from, or steal from, your rich clients."
"He lost his girlfriend because he wasn't man enough to take care of her," Becky said. "Even a stray dog has more pride."
The guards burst out laughing, to the amusement of the pauper they were called to deal with. Mirabel smiled, enjoying every second.
"A poverty-stricken fool like that can't even fend for himself," she said. "Please, send him out of this hotel."
Jimmy was deeply pained by those words. They came from the woman he once loved and sacrificed for.
But he kept his cool. He knew better than to reveal who he might be.
He didn't even know who his mother really was. She could have enemies everywhere who were out to get her.
So the safest thing was to act as he did before the call. When he finally met her, he would learn everything and then decide what to do.
Jimmy just let them enjoy themselves. He sat quietly and said nothing.
The guards walked to his table. "Sir, please leave the hotel," one of them said.
"I'm a guest in this hotel," Jimmy replied calmly.
"A guest?" the guard laughed. "Have you seen your clothes?"
"Look at his face," Mirabel whispered to her friends. "He actually thinks he's someone important."
Other guests in the hall stared and whispered. Some of them covered their mouths to hide their laughter.
Just then, Justin's phone rang. He stepped aside to answer it.
It was the school chancellor's secretary. She wanted Justin to be the anchor of the chancellor's party that evening.
Justin's chest swelled with pride. Being chosen to host that party was a huge honor.
He hung up and told Mirabel they had to leave and get ready. But Mirabel refused to go.
"I want to see him thrown out with my own eyes," she said. "I won't leave until I do."
Justin couldn't disappoint her. He took out his wallet and handed the two guards $3,000.
"Throw him out and record everything," he said. "Mirabel needs to see it."
The guards grinned and promised to do a good job. Mirabel kissed Justin on the cheek and thanked him.
Then she picked up a glass of juice from a nearby table and walked to Jimmy. "Breakfast is on me, beggar," she said.
She poured the whole glass over his head. Cold juice ran down his hair and face and dripped onto the menu.
Her friends exploded with laughter.
"Somebody get him a towel," Becky said. "Oh wait, he doesn't deserve one."
"Enjoy your meal, trash," Mirabel said. Then they all left, laughing.
Jimmy wiped his face slowly. His hands were shaking, but not from fear.
He had never felt so humiliated in his life. But he told himself it would be over soon.
The guards stepped closer. "Last warning," one of them said. "Leave now."
"I'm not leaving," Jimmy replied calmly.
The guards smiled at each other. In their line of work, they loved the stubborn ones, because it gave them legitimate grounds to deal with them mercilessly.
They cracked their knuckles and moved forward, ready to pounce. Everyone in the hall stopped eating to watch.
Jimmy calmly took out the key card to his room. He placed it on the table.
"Call your manager," he said.
The guards froze for a moment, then burst out laughing.
"Mr. Justin said you can't afford anything in this hotel," one of them said. "And now you're demanding to see the manager of the biggest hotel in the city?"
"How dare you?" the other said. "That's a waste of her time."
The first guard picked up the card and examined it closely. "Where did you get a VIP card?" he asked. "Maybe you stole it."
All this time, the hotel manager was watching from the CCTV in her office. She stepped out, irritated by Jimmy's appearance.
Selena Mickelson was in her mid-30s and the most powerful hotel manager in the city. Everyone in the hall straightened up when she walked in.
She was very proud of her power. Nobody in the city dared to disrespect her hotel.
"What is going on here?" she demanded. "Give me that card and tell me your name."
Jimmy told her his name calmly. She snatched the card from the guard's hand and looked at him with disgust.
"Boys like you always sneak into expensive places to steal," she said. "I've seen your kind many times."
"Ma'am, Mr. Justin said this boy is poor and can't afford anything here," a guard explained. "He must have stolen the card from one of our elite clients, maybe even Mr. Justin, since he booked a VIP suite."
Selena knew Justin very well and how influential his family was. Without any investigation, she believed the guards and accused Jimmy of theft.
"I booked the suite myself," Jimmy said. "I didn't steal from anyone, and you can ask the receptionist."
The receptionist rushed in to save the situation.
"He booked his suite himself last night and paid in full," she said. "He didn't steal..."
Before she could finish, Selena slapped her across the face. "Shut up!" she screamed. "Are you saying Mr. Justin is a liar?"
"Get out," Selena ordered. The receptionist ran out in tears.
Selena turned to Jimmy with a cold smile. "I will deal with you today," she said.
"I'm calling my cousin," she said. "He is a loan shark and one of the most notorious gang leaders in this city."
She took out her phone and made the call. She knew that dealing with Jimmy would earn her favor with Justin's family and help her gain some business deals.
"Hello, Santos," she said. "There's a stupid fool and a low-life thief here, and I want you to deal with him mercilessly."
When Jimmy heard the name Santos, he smiled.
