Chapter 5

Selena noticed the smile on Jimmy's face and frowned. "Why are you smiling?" she snapped.

"Is Santos really your cousin?" Jimmy asked calmly.

Selena's face flamed up with rage. "How dare you mention Santos' name?" she screamed.

Jimmy smiled again. He walked back to his seat with confidence, picked up the menu, and continued eating his breakfast.

Everyone in the hall was stunned. They wondered what gave him such audacity.

The guards wanted to teach him a lesson for walking away from their boss. But Selena raised her hand to stop them.

"Let him be," she said. "He is only making his own trouble bigger."

A few minutes later, loud footsteps echoed through the hall. Santos walked in with his gang, and the elite guests moved aside in fear.

"Where is the bastard who had the audacity to steal from you?" Santos asked his cousin.

Selena smiled with excitement. Santos was a major reason she had reached where she was today.

Because of him, other hotels feared her and wouldn't mess with her. He always showed up whenever she had trouble with someone or a deal was proving difficult.

Seeing him now was another chance to show her power to everyone watching. After today, nobody would ever dare to mess with her or her hotel.

She raised her shoulders in pride and pointed at Jimmy's table. The two guards stood beside him, and Santos' men surrounded the table so he couldn't escape.

But Jimmy was the least shaken person in the hall. He sat quietly with his head bowed.

"Ooh, Santos, you're here!" one of the guards said happily. "Leave this clown for us to deal with."

Santos slapped him across the face. "How dare you mention my name?" he roared.

The guard fell to the floor and apologized again and again. Selena quickly stepped in to defend him.

"Don't take it to heart," she told Santos. "He is just excited to see you, because the guards worship you like a mentor."

Santos sighed. "Fine," he said. "Where is the criminal?"

Selena pointed at Jimmy. Everyone thought he was bowing his head to pray for help.

"Raise your head!" Santos yelled in his thunderous voice.

Jimmy slowly lifted his head and looked straight into Santos' eyes. The corner of his mouth lifted slightly.

When Santos saw his face, he was shocked. He immediately dropped to his knees.

His men dropped beside him and bowed their heads to Jimmy. The hall went completely silent.

Nobody could believe what they were seeing. Selena was the most shocked of all.

She had never seen Santos bow to anyone. "Santos, what are you doing?" she asked.

"Why are you bowing to a clown like this stupid boy?" she added.

"Shut your mouth!" Santos snapped. He lowered his voice so that only she could hear.

"Do you know who he is? He is my boss's boss's boss's son."

"He is far more powerful than you can imagine."

Selena was still confused. Why was Santos acting like this?

Jimmy finally stood up. All he wanted was a simple breakfast, but he had been humiliated by people who didn't even know him.

"Santos," he said. "I hate the way I was treated in this hotel."

"Handle this. Make sure everyone here who disrespected me is punished."

"That is your first assignment as my subordinate," he added. "You know what happens if you disobey me."

"Yes, sir," Santos said, his head still bowed. "I promise everyone who humiliated you will pay."

Jimmy nodded and walked out of the hall. Fear gripped the guards, and their legs started to shake.

Selena still didn't understand what was going on. She thought Santos was playing his favorite hunter-and-prey game, the one he used on his victims.

"What's your plan?" she asked. "Are you just going to let that silly boy humiliate us and walk away, or is this all part of your plan?"

Santos stood up. Without a word, he slapped her.

The sound echoed across the silent hall. Not a single guest dared to breathe.

He grabbed her arm and hissed in her ear. "That is Jimmy Levruff. Do you know how powerful he is?"

"Santos, how dare you slap me?" Selena cried. "You have never slapped me before..."

Before she could finish, Santos slapped her again. "Shut your mouth and stop making things worse," he whispered.

"If I disobey Diana Levruff’s son, I and everyone I know will be beheaded in 24 hours."

Selena realized she had bitten off more than she could chew. She held her cheeks in shame, and tears ran down her face.

Her proud face was red from the slaps. Her perfect hair was a mess.

The guests who were watching laughed quietly behind their hands. The mighty Selena Mickelson had just been humiliated by a boy who looked like nothing.

Many of them recorded the moment on their phones. Soon, the video went viral.

Managers of other hotels, who had suffered her ruthlessness before, rushed to comment and mock her. Her own backbone had turned against her, and nobody would fear her again.

Santos ordered his men to beat up the security guards. The sound of their screams filled the hall.

Then he turned to his cousin. "Learn how to treat people," he said coldly.

"The person you insulted could erase our entire family, and nobody would ever hear about us again."

"I didn't know he was that powerful," Selena said, trembling.

"He is more powerful than you can ever imagine," Santos replied. "Find him and apologize, or you're finished."

Meanwhile, Jimmy was walking outside the hotel when his phone rang. It was his close friends, Sabastein and Jeffrey.

"Jimmy, are you okay?" Sabastein asked, worried. "We heard about the breakup, and we have been trying to reach you."

"You didn't come back to the dorm last night," Jeffrey added. "We were really scared."

Jimmy smiled a little. It felt good to know that someone still cared about him.

"I'm fine," he said. "I'll meet you both in school later."

"If anybody touched you again, we'll beat them up," Jeffrey said.

Jimmy chuckled, imagining the two of them fighting anyone. They were the only people he could truly call family.

"Did you hear about the chancellor's party tonight?" Sabastein asked. "Are you going?"

"I'll go," Jimmy said. "But I don't have clothes for it."

"Don't worry, you can wear any of ours," Jeffrey said.

Jimmy smiled. His friends really had his back.

"Thanks, but let's go shopping together later," he said. "I'll buy everything."

His friends laughed at first. "With what money?" Jeffrey asked.

"I won some money from my sports betting games," Jimmy lied. "I want to spend it on you two to thank you for everything you did for me over the years."

His friends were thrilled. They promised to meet him later.

After the call, Jimmy sat down and thought about the night ahead. He remembered how the night before began: broken and bleeding in the rain.

Now he had a plan. He would show up at the party and surprise everyone.

He imagined the faces of Justin, Mirabel, and their friends. They had humiliated him for the last time.

Tonight, he was going to shut them all up.

But Jimmy didn't know that his phone was about to ring again. The caller had already planned much more for him tonight.
