Chapter 7

Inside the store, Jimmy told his friends to pick the most expensive item in every category they wanted.

"Don't look at any price tag," he said. "Today, you only pick what you love."

Sabastein and Jeffrey looked at each other and grinned like children in a candy store.

"You're sure about this?" Jeffrey asked. "Because I'm about to lose my mind."

"I have never been more sure," Jimmy said. "Go crazy."

So they did. Suits, shoes, watches, belts, cologne, and sunglasses went into the carts without a second thought.

Jeffrey held up a leather jacket and read the tag. "Jimmy, this jacket costs more than my dad’s first car," he said.

"Then take two," Jimmy replied with a laugh.

Jimmy picked the most expensive suit in the store, with matching shoes and a watch. The staff watched in shock as the three boys marched through the store like kings.

By the time they were done, they had three carts filled with clothes, shoes, and accessories. They could only imagine how much it would cost.

But it didn't matter, because Diana Levruff had given them her word. Somehow, all three of them believed her.

Jimmy looked at the full carts and felt something warm in his chest. Yesterday, he couldn't afford lunch, and today he could buy his best friends anything they wanted.

They pushed their carts happily toward the checkout desk, laughing and joking. Then two figures suddenly blocked their way.

The boys sighed. They already knew the trouble in front of them.

It was Becky and Daniella, Mirabel's closest friends. They were the same girls who had pushed Mirabel to dump Jimmy.

Neither of them ever liked Jimmy for Mirabel. To them, he was nothing but a waste of her time.

Seeing them now, Jimmy smiled. Things had changed for him, and they didn't know it yet.

Becky and Daniella stood there holding the few things they had picked. Their eyes widened when they saw the three overflowing carts.

The last time they saw Jimmy, he was at the hotel, where Justin had paid the guards to beat him up. Justin had asked for the video to be sent to him.

But the Jimmy standing in front of them didn't look like someone who had been thrown out and beaten. He looked calm and confident.

The girls folded their arms like they were in charge. "What are you doing in this store?" Becky asked.

"And why aren't you in the hospital, Jimmy?" Daniella added. "I thought the guards finished you off."

Jeffrey laughed out loud. "We came to read novels," he said.

Jimmy and Sabastein burst out laughing. The girls turned red with anger.

"Mirabel sent us the video of last night three times," Becky said with a smirk. "I still can't stop laughing at the way you crawled."

Jimmy's chest tightened. The memory of the floor, the kicks, and Mirabel's laugh rushed back.

But he took a deep breath and let it pass. They had no idea how little their words mattered now.

Jeffrey stepped forward. "Say that again, Becky, and you'll regret it."

"Oh, look who's brave now," Daniella said. "The two brothers defending their charity case."

Jimmy spread his arms and turned around slowly to show that nobody had touched him. This made the girls angrier, because it felt like something had gone wrong with their plan.

Daniella decided to get back at them. "You must have come here to steal," she said.

"Does anything here look stolen?" Sabastein asked, pointing at the carts.

Becky twisted it. "Then maybe they're planning to rob the store."

"Look at him," Daniella said, pointing at Jimmy. "Yesterday, his girlfriend dumped him. This morning, he was thrown out of a hotel."

"So how does a lowlife loser like you suddenly afford this kind of shopping?"

Jimmy smiled calmly. "If you're shocked now, wait until you see the bill."

For a moment, the girls were stunned into silence. They wondered what had happened to these boys.

Jimmy didn't wait for an answer. He pushed his cart forward, and his friends followed.

"Excuse us," he said. "You're in the way."

The girls jumped aside just before the carts hit them. They gasped for breath as the boys laughed all the way to the checkout desk.

"What the hell is going on?" Daniella whispered.

Becky took out her phone and called Mirabel. She put it on speaker so Daniella could hear.

"Mirabel, you won't believe what we just saw," Becky said. "Jimmy and the Benson brothers are here with three carts full of items."

"It could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even millions," Daniella added. "Has Jimmy suddenly become rich or something?"

Mirabel laughed so loudly that they had to pull the phone away from their ears. "Jimmy? Rich?"

"Don't worry yourselves," she said. "That boy is destined to be a pauper forever."

"Then how is he spending like that?" Daniella asked.

"I'm sure the money isn't from him," Mirabel said. "It has to be the Benson brothers."

"Jimmy told me once that Jeffrey and Sabastein have a trust fund worth tens of millions."

"I tried to convince him to ask them for some of it so he could give it to me, but he refused."

"That's the real reason I stayed in that relationship for so long. When he refused, I dumped him the moment Justin came along."

"Even if he's holding a million-dollar bag, it's borrowed," she said. "He's like a dog wearing someone else's collar."

"The brothers must have cashed out the trust fund," she added. "That's the only explanation."

Becky and Daniella finally relaxed. Jimmy was still a nobody, but his friends were the rich ones now.

Before this, they despised Sabastein and Jeffrey almost as much as they despised Jimmy. But now that they had heard about tens of millions of dollars, the brothers suddenly looked very attractive.

As soon as the call ended, Becky began adjusting her dress and checking her makeup. Daniella frowned.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"We've been out of rich-boyfriend luck for a while," Becky said. "And we don't have a rich guy to take us to the Chancellor's party tonight."

"How does that matter now?" Daniella asked.

Becky pinched her arm. "Are you blind or just stupid? The Benson brothers are rich now!"

"Haven't they been asking us out for the longest time?"

"Yes, but we always turned them down," Daniella said.

"That's because they were broke," Becky said. "Now they're rich, so what's stopping us from accepting them and eating their millions?"

"What if they say no?" Daniella asked.

"No guy on this campus says no to me," Becky said, flipping her hair.

Daniella finally got the point and smiled widely. "You're always the brilliant strategist in this group."

It was true. Becky was the one who had cooked up the plan for Mirabel to dump Jimmy for Justin.

Daniella quickly fixed her hair and her dress. Then they walked toward the boys with fake smiles.

At the counter, the boys had dropped their things and were waiting for an attendant. They had been standing there for a long time, but nobody had attended to them.

There were five attendants stationed at the desk. Only one of them was busy, and the other four had nothing to do.

The boys called for their attention one after the other. The four ladies snubbed them like they didn't exist.

They kept their faces buried in their phones. Some of them were adjusting their hair and uniforms like they were waiting for a suitor.

It was obvious that they had someone else in mind. They didn't want the boys to preoccupy them when that person arrived.

"Is this how they treat customers here?" Jeffrey whispered. "We are about to spend millions."

"Let them be," Jimmy said quietly. "Their attitude will cost them soon."

The 5th attendant, who was finishing with her own customers, felt bad for them. "Please be patient, I will attend to you shortly," she said politely.

"It's okay," Jimmy said. "Let's move our carts to this lady's desk."

"She's the only polite and professional person here," he added loudly.

The four ladies heard him and rose in anger. Their faces twisted as they began to insult the boys.

"Who the hell do you think you are to talk to us like that?" the first lady shouted.

"Are you stupid?" the second said. "Can't you see it's not your turn yet?"

"Do you think you're more important than the main customer who came before you?" the third asked.

"Why are we wasting our time and energy on insignificant wannabes?" the fourth said. "They probably can't even afford socks."

The boys looked around for this "main customer." They were the only ones at the desk.

Just then, a sudden buzz spread through the section. The man from earlier walked in, with three huge bouncers behind him.

It was Mr. Billionaire. They didn't need anyone to tell them he was the person the ladies were waiting for.

The four ladies immediately fixed themselves again. They called to him in the sexiest voices they could manage, each begging him to come to her desk.

Jimmy and his friends stood at the 5th lady's desk and watched. They only shook their heads in pity.

Jimmy noticed something about Mr. Billionaire. His suit was too tight at the shoulders, and his shoes looked old.

But everyone else in the store was too blinded by the chanting to notice.

Mr. Billionaire finally arrived, walking in slow motion like a Bollywood hero. He stood there with a big smile, full of pride, feeling himself as always.

He told no one in particular that he had a yacht, two jets, and three mansions. The ladies gasped like he had just read poetry.

They flirted and begged for his attention. "Calm down, ladies," he said with a smirk.

"There is enough of me to go around."

They all giggled like schoolgirls. He picked up a $50,000 wristwatch from a glass display and waved it around.

"I want this one," he said. "Now, who will attend to me, and who will hold my card?"

At that moment, the ladies began to fight. Nobody cared about attending to his purchase, because his card was worth more than any commission.

"I'll pay for the watch myself, sir!" one of them screamed. "Just give me the honor of holding your card!"

One of them even pushed another out of the way. Their sweet voices had turned into screams.

Jimmy and his friends watched and laughed. These ladies must be crazy.

Just then, the 5th lady called their attention. She had finished processing their bills.

"Sir, the total is $3,520,000," she said, her voice shaking a little.

The boys were stunned. They had never done a shopping that cost more than $50,000 in their entire lives.

"$3,520,000?" Sabastein whispered. "We just spent a house."

"This is crazy," Jeffrey said, and they high-fived each other. Their lives had truly changed.

Jimmy smiled and handed his card to the lady. "Go ahead," he said.

But just before she could swipe it, two voices screamed behind them. "Stop!"

It was Becky and Daniella. They pushed through and ordered the lady to stop, saying that the boys weren't done with their purchases.

The girls had seen the total on the screen, and they were shocked. Not even Justin could spend that much in one go.

They had finally hit the jackpot.

Jimmy turned around and watched them rush in. Becky hugged Jeffrey, and Daniella hugged Sabastein.

"Get off me!" Jeffrey said, trying to pull away.

"Don't be shy, babe," Becky purred.

The brothers were shocked and confused. Jimmy only smiled.

He turned back to the attendant. "We're done," he said. "You can proceed with the payment."

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Daniella shouted at him.

"Why are you giving instructions? You are only here as our boyfriends' charity case!"

Jimmy had been called a charity case so many times in the last two days that the words no longer hurt.

The whole counter fell silent. "Boyfriends?" the Benson brothers said at the same time.

The girls turned and kissed them on the cheeks, leaving them even more shocked.

"Yes, boyfriends," Becky said sweetly. "We have finally accepted your proposal to be your girlfriends."

Jeffrey's mouth fell open. Sabastein looked like he had seen a ghost.

"But on one condition," Daniella added.

Jimmy scoffed quietly and leaned against the counter. This was getting very interesting.

The attendant looked at him, confused. She was still holding his card.

Everyone nearby held their breath, waiting to hear the condition.
