The silence in the room was broken only by the soft ticking of an expensive watch. Then, like a cue rehearsed a thousand times, Nathan slowly lifted his wrist and tapped the face of his silver watch, his voice loud and mocking.

“Summer,” he said with a smirk, “your time starts now.”

There was a cruel gleam in his eyes, and the group standing behind him chuckled in unison. He leaned casually against a chair like he was the host of a game show, not a former teammate.

Bella, standing beside him, let out a theatrical sigh and began to clap slowly. “Come on, Summer,” she sneered. “Let’s get on with it. You were so confident before, weren’t you? All that bragging, all that big talk. Now you have ten minutes to kneel—metaphorically or literally, your choice. Just do it while you still can.”

She took a few slow steps forward, tilting her head like she pitied Summer.
