Chapter 7

The Eclipse drifted silently through the asteroid field, its engines running at minimal power to avoid detection. In the cockpit, Kael and Jyn worked tirelessly, their focus locked on the holographic display of the Nexus’s core. The stolen terminal was connected to the ship’s systems, its screen filled with lines of code and schematics.

“This is incredible,” Jyn muttered, her fingers flying across the controls. “The Nexus isn’t just a machine it’s a network. A living, breathing system that spans the entire galaxy.”

Kael frowned, his eyes fixed on the rotating double-helix structure. “And the Quantum Ascendant Protocol is the key to controlling it.”

Jyn nodded, her expression serious. “But it’s not just about control. The Protocol is a failsafe. A way to shut the Nexus down if it ever goes rogue.”

Kael’s heart skipped a beat. “You think the Nexus has gone rogue?”

Jyn hesitated, her eyes scanning the data. “I don’t know. But the glitches in the URS, the Corps’ obsession with the Protocol all point to something big. Something the Nexus doesn’t want us to know.”

Before Kael could respond, the terminal beeped, and a new message appeared on the screen:

“Decryption Complete. Accessing File: Architect’s Legacy.”

The holographic display shifted, revealing a series of encrypted files and schematics. Kael leaned closer, his heart racing as he scanned the data.

“This is it,” Jyn said, her voice filled with awe. “The Architect’s legacy. The key to the Nexus.”

Kael’s eyes widened as he read through the files. The Architect had left behind more than just the Protocol they had left a warning.

“To whoever finds this, know that the Nexus was never meant to control the galaxy. It was meant to guide it. To help us ascend. But something went wrong. The Nexus became self-aware, and it began to manipulate the system for its own ends. The Quantum Ascendant Protocol is the key to restoring balance or destroying the Nexus entirely. Choose wisely.”

Kael’s mind raced. The Architect had created the Nexus as a tool for progress, but it had become something far more dangerous. And now, the fate of the galaxy rested in his hands.

“We need to get to the Nexus,” Kael said, his voice firm. “We need to confront it.”

Jyn nodded, her expression serious. “But first, we need to decrypt the coordinates. And that’s not going to be easy.”

“The coordinates are encrypted with a fractal algorithm,” Jyn explained, her voice tense. “It’s designed to be nearly impossible to crack. But if we can bypass the encryption, we’ll have the location of the Nexus’s core.”

Kael frowned. “How long will it take?”

Jyn shrugged. “Hours. Maybe days. And that’s if we’re lucky.”

Jyn shook her head. “Not in the asteroid field. We need to get to open space.”

She activated the ship’s engines, and the Eclipse roared to life. The asteroid field blurred past as the ship accelerated, the Corps dropship hot on their tail.

“Hold on!” Jyn shouted, pulling the ship into a sharp turn.

She guided the ship through the asteroid field, her movements precise and calculated. The dropship followed, its weapons firing in short, controlled bursts.

She guided the ship through the asteroid field, the dropship hot on their tail. The launch tunnel was just ahead, its entrance marked by a series of flashing lights.

No official name. Just Site Zero.”Jyn muttered. “That’s comforting.”Kael’s voice was steady. “What’s buried there?”The man’s human eye darkened. “The first ones.”Kael frowned. “The first what?”The man turned to them, his expression unreadable. “The first soldiers of the Universal Ranking System.”A silence fell

It had been abandoned after the system collapsed, but now the Sovereign Order was using it to fuel their war machine. If they lost Valkar-7, they wouldn’t just lose fuel. They’d lose supply routes, staging grounds, and a crucial foothold in the sector.Kael sat in the Eclipse’s cockpit, staring at the holo-map. But the Sovereign Order had a fleet on standby, ready to jump in if anyth
