Rhys gritted his teeth as his body landed in the lake, for some unknown reason the water was hot, completely different from what he presumed. He bit on his lip as he felt so much pain all over his body, it felt as if a thousands ants were gnawing on his bones. He clenched his fist, his eyes became bloodshot as he stared at the sleeping Rio fiercely. Rio who was asleep felt shivers under Rhys stare but doesn’t wake up.

‘He never told me that this would be painful.’ Rhys clenched his fist, fighting the urge to cry out in pain. Compared to the pain from when he received so much information from the book, this was a different level of pain.

Black fluid seeped out of his skin into the water but it completely disappeared, Rhys doesn’t notice this as he was busy trying to remain conscious. The pain soon stopped, Rhys wobbles out of the lake. “I don’t think I can take one more round of this.” He stared hatefully at the lake, recalling Rio’s word, he tried to imagine himself in his bathroom.

The view before him changed and he was standing on the spot where he previously was. Thinking that a lot of time had passed, Rhys returned to his room to check the time. “Just two hours? It felt like a week to me.” He turned around and coincidentally, he was standing in front of a full length mirror.

Rhys gasped, “Holy shit! This cannot be me!” He exclaimed loudly before touching his face, the person in the mirror also touched his face, confirming what Rhys was seeing.

“It can’t be me.” He mumbled a few more times in disbelief. Rhys couldn’t believe his eyes, all his life he had an ordinary, unattractive appearance but what he was currently seeing was totally different.

The reflection in the mirror had blond hair that was previously black, sharp icy blue eyes with a small attractive mole under his left eye, a pointed nose and a sharp jawline. It wasn’t just changes to his face alone, his body had toned muscles and he could feel the abs he never had few hours ago. His skin was flawless, it could rival that of a woman who had invested so much time to skincare.

A few hours ago?

The lake?

“It was that lake! Since when does water have the ability to change appearances?” He recalled the gnawing feeling all over his body and shuddered, he didn’t want to go through that pain once again.

“Whatever that’s happening to me, I don’t care as long as I get to keep this appearance.” He winked at his reflection.

Rhys stepped into the bathroom once again for a bath, he changed into a robe before going to sleep. His body suddenly felt exhausted, his mind weary, he instantly fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. In his dreams, he conjured up scenes where he would make Malia regret ever insistent on divorcing him.

The next day, as soon as Rhys got out of bed, the first thing he did was check the mirror to ensure that his new appearance wasn’t a trick to the eyes. He was relieved as he discovered that nothing had changed. Previously he had dark hair with dull grey eyes, but now it was completely different, he doubted that Malia would recognize him if she ran into him.

The changes were too much that he decided to return to where he had his accident and confirm if he truly almost died. Rhys quickly took a bath and rushed out if the house, he ran into no one and didn’t care, instead it was for the best.

Wearing just a tee shirt and jeans with earbuds in his ears, he strolled down the streets, using his memory to return back to where he had an accident- nope, almost got killed.

At the sight if something attractive people are bound to be interested. As Rhys walked down the streets, humming a tune, he was oblivious to the looks he was receiving , every woman that he passed, took a second look at him.

He was about to cross the road, when one of such women blocked him from leaving. “Huh?” He raised one of his eyebrows questioningly and didn’t realize how his actions caused some women to pass out right there and then.

The woman in front of him patted her chest a few times to calm herself. “Hi, can I have your number? Can we go out together?”

Rhys didn’t hear her thanks to the music he was listening to, he took out the earbuds. “I’m sorry, were you saying something?”

The woman’s cheeks turned red, even the tips of her ears were red. “I was hoping if I could get your number.” Noticing his full attention on her, she became shy.

“Oh,” Rhys smirked. “I’m married.” He completely shattered her dream. “What!” The woman exclaimed.

Rhys could see that she had a pretty face, her beauty could rival that of Malia but he wasn’t interested. “I’m sorry but I’m married. If you may excuse me, I have somewhere important to be right now” He simply put his earbuds back on and sauntered off.

Meanwhile, a man who was driving pulled to a stop when the light turned red, he was patiently waiting for the lights to turn green when Rhys appeared in his line of sight. The man gasped, he rubbed his eyes to confirm if he was dreaming. “Could that be him?”

The lights turned green, the man quickly found a place to park his car, got out and rushed in the direction what Rhys had gone. In no time, he was able to locate him, he quietly followed Rhys, contemplating on his next line of action.

Even though he was engrossed in the music, Rhys sensed that someone was following him. “Could you stop following me? I am not interested in you.”
