“You who hate yourself have awakened the Dream Lover System.”

The voice rang directly in my mind.

My pulse quickened.

I looked around. “Who’s there?”

“This,” the feminine voice said, almost dripping with sarcasm, “is the Dream Lover System. Let me show your stats.”

An aerial screen popped in front of my eyes.

[Name: Caleb J. Cole

Height: 179 cm

Weight: 282 pounds

Charm rating: 9/100.

Health: pathetic.

Wealth: nearly zero.

Hair: disappearing.]

My eyes swelled out of the sockets.

I rubbed my eyes and looked again.

The window was still there. Floating in the air. How’s this possible?

Am I dreaming?

I pinched myself, and it hurt.

I don’t think I’m dreaming.

“W-What is this?” My pulse did not slow down a bit. “What are you?”

“I’m a supernatural system that will assist you in achieving your dreams,” the voice replied. “My name is Dreamie.”

“Supernatural, you say?” I swallowed my breath as I felt heat rising in my body. “Is this really a dream then?”

“Only a few people have activated me over the years, but it’s been a long time since a person with a charm score lower than 10 has activated me.”

“M-My charm score is only 9 out of 100?” I blurted defiantly. “T-That’s gotta be a joke.”

“A joke?” Dreamie laughed and then told me how sad my wardrobe’s current situation was, and how rats were living in it. She told me how I have done nothing but work overtime and ignore myself to the point even the single moms with six kids ignored me.

My throat went dry. I felt every humiliation from the past years hitting me all at once.

“But… I… I can change,” I said, voice trembling.

The system’s interface pulsed brighter. “Of course you can. That’s why I’m here. To manufacture miracles. Stop hoping that I will freely hand you charm, wealth, and attractiveness. Every point must be earned.”

A new window popped before me.

[Mission One: Take a proper shower. Trim your beard. Look… human. And you shall receive a single charm point.”

I swallowed hard, leaning forward. “O-Only one point?”

“With every point, you earn a reward,” Dreamie responded.

I found myself doubting her words, but the mission itself seemed simple.

So, I went into the bathroom.

A minute later.

I walked out.

“It’s done,” I said.

“I said, ‘take a proper shower,’” Dreamie’s voice rang in my mind once more. “How can you properly wash yourself in under a minute? And your trimming skills are poor, too.”

“Tsk,” as annoyed as I was, I still turned and went back into the bathroom.

Nearly 30 minutes later.

I stepped out of the shower.

The faint stubble that had clung unevenly to my jaw was definitely gone, but I doubted that alone could make me look sharper.

[Charm Score +1.

Charm rating: 10/100.

Reward available. Claim now?]

My heart thumped. Reward? What kind of…

I reached toward the aerial interface, uncertain, and tapped the confirmation.

A soft chime sounded, and suddenly, a neat stack of cash magically appeared in my hand—ten thousand dollars in crisp bills.

All hundred dollar bills.

“T-This… is real money?” I couldn’t breathe.

$10,000… in cash.

This was nearly 20 percent of my yearly income!

But that wasn’t all.

On my other hand, a certificate blinked into existence, confirming a 20% stake in Phantom Dream Investments.

My eyes stayed frozen open for a good few seconds.

I quickly checked online.

Phantom Dream was a small financial firm that everyone in his city was talking about lately. Even at a conservative estimate, that 20% stake was worth two million dollars.

I stumbled backward, nearly tripping over the edge of my bed. “T-This isn’t a dream, right?” I slapped myself, and it freaking hurt. “That hurts. This can’t be a dream.”

The air in the room seemed suddenly heavier, charged, almost alive. I could feel change pressing against me like a tide.

My heart was washed with a strange mix of exhilaration and terror.

Just then, Dreamie’s voice rang. “Warning: Someone is observing you!”

Caleb opened his eyes. The smell of the medicine flooded his senses. He realized that he was on a hospital bed. One glance around made him notice Rita who was sleeping in the chair. It was nighttime.Given how they were in a separate room, Caleb understood that she booked a separate room for him to be treated, one that had oxygen cylinders and advanced equipment if necessary.“I remember getting home. Did she get me to the hospital?” Caleb frowned.[Do you want to know what she’s dreaming about?] Dreamie asked him.“I can know that?” Caleb was surprised.[You can even enter her dreams since her bond meter score crossed sixty. She feels gravitated toward you, so it’s easier for you to enter her dreams. Doesn’t it sound romantic?]“Sounds creepy,” Caleb said. “Dreams are highly personal. I don’t want others to enter my dreams, either, even if they’re my parents or wife or children.”[You’ve still got a long way to go if you’re bound by such weak emotions.]“Weak or not, these emotions a

Caleb was still on the ground, leaving a trail of blood from his wounded shoulder.Blood also dripped from both corners of his mouth. He couldn’t quite understand what just happened. Why was he bleeding in a spiritual realm? How did the three-headed monkey get the better of him when he threw the punch with everything he got? He surely wasn’t afraid of that monkey when he attacked it, yet his punch was utterly broken. And Caleb also lost his entire right arm.It wasn’t just the arm that suffered damage. Caleb could feel a strange sense of pain gripping his chest, making it difficult for him to breathe.“You need more than just fearlessness to survive in this world,” Caleb said. The three-headed monkey grinned while eating bananas with three heads. “Even if I tell you how I did it, keeek, you wouldn’t be able to learn it now.”It leaped onto a tree, swung over a branch like a pendulum and jumped high into the air, then came down in a spinning motion.Even the winds twisted around the be

The deer wasn't defeated because Caleb was physically stronger. It was defeated because he stopped believing he was weaker than it.Even though he had won against one beast, thousands of more spirit beasts stared at Caleb from the trees, the clouds, and the distant mountains. The horned deer beneath his feet slowly dissolved into silver mist.Caleb frowned. He had surely crushed its skull. He had felt the impact, yet there was no blood. Now, even the body was gone, leaving nothing behind. The spirit mist drifted toward the surrounding beasts and faded away as if it never existed. Then a tiny squirrel jumped off the tree and landed in front of him.It was ‘tiny’ compared to other beasts, but it was still a bit taller than Caleb when it was standing upright.Despite how cute and chubby it looked, it started throwing punches so fast. Caleb could barely see those punches. His body was not able to react in time.He got hit by a dozen punches in a flash. Each punch was like getting hit by a

He was looking straight at Caleb.“You want something?” Caleb turned around.“My name is Silver Reign,” he introduced himself with a smile, but that wasn’t a friendly smile. “I’m here to challenge you.”“What’s your rank?”“I’m a C-Rank fighter.”“And you want to fight me, a D-ranker? Don’t you have any shame?”“I don’t want someone else hogging attention away from me,” he rushed forward, his fists giving off a silver glow.Caleb’s eyes widened. He instinctually moved to his left.A silvery glow of energy brushed past his shoulder, ripping his cloth off at that part, leaving a bruise on his skin.Behind him, it hit the ground and left a mini crater in it.“What was that?”“That’s my silver aura,” he threw his fist again from a distance. This time, the energy blast came much faster than he could dodge. It

It would be too humiliating for him.Rita, on the other hand, went to Caleb’s room. The door was locked. “Tch, he’s not home yet?” She made a phone call, but he didn’t respond. “He’s gotta be kidding me?
