“You who hate yourself have awakened the Dream Lover System.”

The voice rang directly in my mind.

My pulse quickened.

I looked around. “Who’s there?”

“This,” the feminine voice said, almost dripping with sarcasm, “is the Dream Lover System. Let me show your stats.”

An aerial screen popped in front of my eyes.

[Name: Caleb J. Cole

Height: 179 cm

Weight: 282 pounds

Charm rating: 9/100.

Health: pathetic.

Wealth: nearly zero.

Hair: disappearing.]

My eyes swelled out of the sockets.

I rubbed my eyes and looked again.

The window was still there. Floating in the air. How’s this possible?

Am I dreaming?

I pinched myself, and it hurt.

I don’t think I’m dreaming.

“W-What is this?” My pulse did not slow down a bit. “What are you?”

“I’m a supernatural system that will assist you in achieving your dreams,” the voice replied. “My name is Dreamie.”

“Supernatural, you say?” I swallowed my breath as I felt heat rising in my body. “Is this really a dream then?”

“Only a few people have activated me over the years, but it’s been a long time since a person with a charm score lower than 10 has activated me.”

“M-My charm score is only 9 out of 100?” I blurted defiantly. “T-That’s gotta be a joke.”

“A joke?” Dreamie laughed and then told me how sad my wardrobe’s current situation was, and how rats were living in it. She told me how I have done nothing but work overtime and ignore myself to the point even the single moms with six kids ignored me.

My throat went dry. I felt every humiliation from the past years hitting me all at once.

“But… I… I can change,” I said, voice trembling.

The system’s interface pulsed brighter. “Of course you can. That’s why I’m here. To manufacture miracles. Stop hoping that I will freely hand you charm, wealth, and attractiveness. Every point must be earned.”

A new window popped before me.

[Mission One: Take a proper shower. Trim your beard. Look… human. And you shall receive a single charm point.”

I swallowed hard, leaning forward. “O-Only one point?”

“With every point, you earn a reward,” Dreamie responded.

I found myself doubting her words, but the mission itself seemed simple.

So, I went into the bathroom.

A minute later.

I walked out.

“It’s done,” I said.

“I said, ‘take a proper shower,’” Dreamie’s voice rang in my mind once more. “How can you properly wash yourself in under a minute? And your trimming skills are poor, too.”

“Tsk,” as annoyed as I was, I still turned and went back into the bathroom.

Nearly 30 minutes later.

I stepped out of the shower.

The faint stubble that had clung unevenly to my jaw was definitely gone, but I doubted that alone could make me look sharper.

[Charm Score +1.

Charm rating: 10/100.

Reward available. Claim now?]

My heart thumped. Reward? What kind of…

I reached toward the aerial interface, uncertain, and tapped the confirmation.

A soft chime sounded, and suddenly, a neat stack of cash magically appeared in my hand—ten thousand dollars in crisp bills.

All hundred dollar bills.

“T-This… is real money?” I couldn’t breathe.

$10,000… in cash.

This was nearly 20 percent of my yearly income!

But that wasn’t all.

On my other hand, a certificate blinked into existence, confirming a 20% stake in Phantom Dream Investments.

My eyes stayed frozen open for a good few seconds.

I quickly checked online.

Phantom Dream was a small financial firm that everyone in his city was talking about lately. Even at a conservative estimate, that 20% stake was worth two million dollars.

I stumbled backward, nearly tripping over the edge of my bed. “T-This isn’t a dream, right?” I slapped myself, and it freaking hurt. “That hurts. This can’t be a dream.”

The air in the room seemed suddenly heavier, charged, almost alive. I could feel change pressing against me like a tide.

My heart was washed with a strange mix of exhilaration and terror.

Just then, Dreamie’s voice rang. “Warning: Someone is observing you!”

The next morning.Caleb had to force him to get off the bed to start the Daily Dirt Mission.Finishing it was a whole different story. But he didn’t complain to the system today.Even with his body aching everywhere, he continued to work in the park. There were some passersby who laughed at him, but Caleb did not give a damn about them.By the time he finished the mission, he was hugging the grass. However, he didn’t feel bad.It was the opposite. He felt a sense of coldness coming from the ground and seeping into his body and healing him faster.“This…” In less than a minute, all the fatigue was gone.He was amazed by it.“Is this your work, Dreamie?” he asked.[You were hugging the ground and were healing yourself. I just accelerated the process.] the system replied.“I had no idea that lying on the ground has such a benefit,” Caleb nodded in understanding. “Will you heal me speedily like this every day?” he expectantly asked.[Yes. But only after you finish the Daily Dirt Mission o

Caleb returned to his apartment. The kids were both sleeping soundly in the back.Velma tried waking them up, but they weren’t responding.“Don’t wake them,” Caleb said. “I’ll bring them to your flat.”She was surprised. “You’ll carry them?”“Yeah.”Velma’s expression slightly changed. (Is he trying to get into my flat using this excuse?)She stepped out of the car.Caleb picked up both the kids into his arms without any issues. He went ahead into the apartment. She quickly followed him. “I was expecting your car to give us some trouble, but it didn’t. I won’t say I’m not surprised.”“Well, we shouldn’t judge things by their appearances,” Caleb said.“Y-You’re right,” Velma smiled somewhat. They took the elevator to reach the first floor. She opened her flat door, and then he dropped the kids on the bed. The four other kids were not sleeping but running and playing around. As Caleb was leaving, “Thanks for everything, Caleb.”Caleb just nodded and was walking away.“Be careful,” she

Even though Ben was singing and his friends were dancing, Velma’s kids sensed the tension in the atmosphere and hid behind their mother.“Ben, there’s no need to go this far,” Velma quickly said. “Caleb, apologize to him.”Ben snickered as he did a wave dance with his legs while standing at the same spot. “He should get on his knees and start kissin’ my boots… before my crew writes his ending in tire marks and bruised suits.”“Caleb, get on your knees,” Velma insisted.“I already said my piece,” Caleb replied. “I will apologize if he apologizes to me first.”“Don’t bark big lines, bro,” Ben said. “You’re going to regret, though.”His two friends rushed in and crafted spinning kicks.Caleb took a couple of steps back and dodged them, though only barely. But a quick side kick followed and struck Caleb in the diaphragm, taking the breath out of him.He was pushed back a couple more steps. A frown creased his face. The food bags were on the ground now.“Get down, Caleb,” Velma said. “And

“Take your fucking hand off of me, trash,” Caleb said these words, and he wasn’t even prompted by the system this time.He did it all on his own.Ben saw something like primal rage flicker in Caleb’s eyes for a second, and he pulled his hand back before he knew it.Still, he was quick to recover. “What did you just say?”“There are children here,” Caleb added. “Or I would have used more appropriate words for you,” Caleb retorted.“Caleb!” Velma hissed at him. “Do you know who this man is? He’s a famous rapper. He makes five figures every year. He owns a big house and a luxury car.”“So what? I’m never going to date him,” Caleb replied.Silence fell for a moment.Velma didn’t think Caleb would have such a twisted sense of humor. For the first time, she had a positive impression on him. But, of course, she did not show it in front of Ben.“You should apologize to him,” Velma said.“I will,” Caleb said.“Hmph,” Ben snorted with pride.“But only if he apologizes to me first for calling me

In the time Caleb took to reach the restaurant, Velma received three calls from three different men.She told them she was at a restaurant and had all three of them send money to her.“These idiots only sent me thirty dollars each, even though I told them I came here with my kids,” Velma snorted. She received ninety dollars in total and still wasn’t happy about it in the slightest.“Mm?” She looked at Caleb. “What? Why are you looking at me? Are you jealous that I get paid by my boyfriends?”“We’ve arrived,” he replied.“Oh…”The kids got out first, but Velma didn’t. She was looking at Caleb. “You don’t have to sweat, Caleb. No one expects a Brokie like you to pay. I don’t, either. So, don’t worry. The bill is on me.”Caleb frowned a little. “No. I’ll pay,” he said reluctantly, not because he wanted to pay for her meals but because of the system’s condition. And then Caleb got out of the car.Velma slightly chuckled. “Men are so easy to manipulate. You just rub their eyes a little, an

“What’s the restaurant name?” Caleb asked.“Backfire,” Velma said.“That’s like five miles from here.”“Yeah. So?”“Nothing,” Caleb knew better than arguing with this woman.“Uncle,” the little girl looked at Caleb. “How much do you earn in a week?”“I don’t get paid weekly. I have a proper job. I get paid monthly,” Caleb said.“How much?”“Enough,” he replied.Caleb saw a woman ahead, asking the passing cars for lift. But nobody stopped for her. However, when she saw Caleb’s car, she didn’t even bother asking for a lift.It hurt Caleb’s pride a little.“Stop. That’s my friend,” Velma said.“Huh?” Caleb stopped the car. “We can’t let her in. Did you look at her size? The car would flip over if she sits in the back.”“C’mon, she’s probably the same weight as you.”“No. She’s at least fifty pounds heavier than me,” Caleb quickly retorted.“Let me just walk with her for a minute,” Velma said.Caleb reluctantly reversed the car and stopped by the obese lady standing on the road.Velma ste
