In a grand and magnificent house stood a clan well known for producing countless powerful cultivators who had now spread across many cities, becoming officials of kingdoms and empires alike.

In Dashan City, this clan stood firm, untouchable, and none dared to cause trouble or provoke them.

Yet, an undesired misfortune befell them. A young man, known to be kind-hearted and immensely talented—once hailed as the future successor of the Patriarch—had now suffered a downfall.

He now lay weak, his energy core destroyed by an unknown assailant. Once admired as a prodigy, he was now deemed trash and mocked by his peers.

Typically, a child would begin training at the age of five. Two years later, they were expected to condense Qi and reach the early stage of the Black Realm. Failure to do so meant being labeled defective, with little chance of ever reaching the highest realms.

But the story was different for the son of Patriarch Chen. At five years old, he had already broken into the Black Realm, and by the age of ten, he had reached the Core Energy Realm. Such achievements stirred envy not only among the other children but also among their parents.

Until a fateful incident occurred a month ago…

He refused to accept his condition, yet what could he do? Every medicine, every treasure had been exhausted in an attempt to repair his energy core, yet no result was shown.

For months, Patriarch Chen Long searched for the culprit, but no progress was made. The only clue was a star-shaped tattoo on the wrist of the one who had crippled his son.

“What a pitiful fate you have, my child!” A tearful voice echoed, accompanied by a mother’s embrace, wetting the face of the ten-year-old boy.

“I am tired, Mother. Tired of being insulted, called trash. I’d rather die than bear this shame, dragging our family’s name into humiliation!”

“Don’t say such things, my son. You must be strong—you are the heir of the clan!” His mother tried to remain steadfast, but her words were difficult to reconcile with reality. For a clan leader had to be strong, not weak and powerless without Qi or inner energy.

“Oh, Mother, you are too kind. Father’s position itself may soon be replaced, for the wolves’ stomachs are growling, eager to tear our small family apart. I am certain what happened to me was the work of someone inside. There’s no need to look far—only the elders knew the place where I trained. This is the beginning of a conspiracy!” Chen Nian voiced his suspicion.

And indeed, such suspicions often missed little.

“It seems you are right. I too only now realize, for I trusted them too much to ever doubt. I will take you to meet Grandpa Ling in Linggau City. Pack your things.” Ling Hua spoke gently and left her son’s room. She walked back toward her chamber to see her husband.

The door creaked open…

“Aaaahhh! Help! There’s a murderer!” Ling Hua screamed in horror upon seeing her husband collapsed, blood seeping from his stomach and mouth.

“Run, my love! We have been betrayed by everyone!”

Ling Hua dashed with all her strength after hearing her husband’s final command. As she ran, she called for the guards, but not a single one came. It was as if everything had been prearranged.

Ling Hua was not a cultivator. She was just an ordinary woman who had married the clan leader by fortune and her beauty. Now her life hung on the edge of death.

Chen Nian, hearing his mother’s scream, rushed out of his room. He saw a man chasing his mother, his weapon dripping with blood. He recognized the figure—it was First Elder Chen Rui, the father of Chen Kai, who had been mocking him relentlessly and even beating him these past days.

“Run, Nian Er! Save your life!” Ling Hua shouted when she saw the fear in her son’s eyes. Chen Nian froze, like a statue, unable to move even an inch.

“Quickly, my son! Run! I will hold him off!” With those words, her body convulsed as a sword pierced her back, thrusting through her chest.

Tears streamed down Chen Nian’s face. Even if his energy core were intact, he would still be powerless against them—let alone now, when it was shattered. He turned and ran, leaving his mother who had sacrificed herself to protect him.

The boy ran out of the house, the heavy rain pouring down as if the heavens themselves mourned his family’s fate.

The pain in his heart was unbearable. He would now be all alone. But within that grief, the fire of vengeance ignited, pushing him to live on.

“Father! Mother! I will avenge your deaths. By the heavens and the earth, and the rain that bears witness!” he screamed as he ran, uncaring of his broken sandals, uncaring of his frail and weak body.

The only thing he cared about now was surviving—so that one day, he could gain strength and ignite the fire of his vengeance.

Chen Rui leapt, kicking off a tree to propel himself far forward, quickly closing in on the fleeing Chen Nian.

That night, the world felt deathly silent, as if only the boy and the First Elder existed, locked in a chase within the clan grounds.

“You cannot run any longer, boy. Hand over the Dragon Bracelet you’re hiding!”

Chen Nian was cornered against a wall. There was no escape. Shouting was useless—for now, several clan members had emerged, yet they only stood watching. Their silence revealed their complicity.

“The strong shall rule!” declared Elder Chen Zhi, a trusted confidant of Chen Long. “Hand over the Dragon Bracelet—the symbol of the Chen Clan’s leadership. Do so, and perhaps the future Patriarch will show you mercy.” His words bore no warmth, only cold cruelty.

“Hahaha!” Chen Rui laughed harshly. “Now you see! Life is about choosing strength over weakness! Chen Long is unfit to be Patriarch, for he has a crippled son like you! He never cared for us—only for you, a boy who can no longer cultivate! Angry, are you?!” Chen Rui’s eyes burned with madness. “Hand over the Dragon Bracelet! Or else!”

“I don’t have it! I already told you, I don’t have it!” the boy cried, voice trembling with the helpless tone of a child under intimidation. “But I will remember this day, and your faces! Remember this—if I survive, if I gain strength, I will return one day to demand retribution for the hatred burning within my heart!”

With that, he pressed something on the wall. A hidden mechanism clicked, and a secret passage opened. His small body fell into it and was swept away by the underground river’s current.

Everyone knew of that escape route—designed for clan members in case of sudden attack.

“I will chase him!” Chen Zhi leapt, but was stopped by Chen Rui.

“No need. That river is filled with crocodiles. If you go after him, it will be in vain. By now, he is surely inside one of their bellies. Do not do anything foolish. Cleanse this clan of the blood and the corpses of that husband and wife. Spread the word of their deaths with some embellishment, and then… we shall hold the ceremony to appoint a new Patriarch!” Chen Rui said with a triumphant smile.

Previously, Jie Qian had intended to discuss business with these two men. But the matter had been disrupted due to the lack of a proper venue.“We can talk at the inn instead, Prince Jie. But have you prepared the conditions we requested?” one of them asked.“Rest assured. Everything you asked for has been prepared. Once we reach an agreement, it can all be handed over,” Prince Jie replied, leading the two men who wore bamboo hats to conceal their identities. It didn’t take long to find an inn. A large establishment stood not far from the Sandalwood Pavilion. With his status as a Prince of the Jie Empire, booking a place was effortless. The inn also offered entertainment. Jie Qian chose to bring the two men to the VIP section.“Prince Jie, I’m delighted by your visit. Would Your Highness like to order some women?” a madam approached, speaking casually. In that place, everyone who entered was a customer—but customers were treated according to status. A Prince rarely visited such establ

“Hahaha… Your Highness is still too young to sneer. We’re finished here anyway. Please, enjoy the room,” Kang Kung said to Jie Qian. Then he glanced at Chen Nian and added, “Young Master, it seems our gathering has been disturbed again. There are indeed many clever people in this Empire.”He shot a sideways look at Jie Qian—the word clever clearly laced with sarcasm, implying someone skilled only in twisting words.Chen Nian merely nodded and followed Kang Kung toward the exit.“Stop right there!” Jie Qian shouted without turning his head. There was no way he would let this end so easily. “Apologize to me—kneel!” he roared again. His shout drew more people closer. After all, who wouldn’t be curious about a free spectacle? They watched cautiously from a distance. If a fight broke out, they did not want to be caught in the aftermath. From afar, at least, they could still flee. The two men continued to ignore him and walked toward the exit. The crowd that had gathered instinctively parte

Smack! The instant the slap landed across someone’s face, silence fell outside. No one dared to speak, comment, or even breathe too loudly.A servant lay sprawled on the floor after being struck by that figure. Although the blow had not carried full force, blood still trickled from the corner of his mouth, and a vivid red imprint of five fingers was stamped across his face.He did not even dare cry out in pain, for the one who struck him was a person deeply respected within the Jie Empire.Jie Qian said coldly, “I already told you, I don’t care about those rules. I’m hosting guests, and you will prepare the place.” His tone was domineering and aggressive. He always acted according to his own will—but who would dare offend him? The servant had only been following orders from his superior and was equally helpless. “Quickly inform the owner of Sandalwood Pavilion that I, Jie Qian, want that private room.”The manager, who had been watching from afar, did not dare approach. He could only

“Uncle Kang, let’s go. We have no business with them. Keep your dignity—don’t lower yourself before a dog that likes to lick boots!”Chen Nian’s harsh words were clearly aimed at Chen Dunrui.“We should fill our stomachs instead. Come, Young Master. I’ll take you to a restaurant famous for its delicious cuisine!” Kang Kung smoothly played the role of guide, since he had already claimed that Chen Nian came from another empire. The two tacitly agreed to maintain this act. It would be impossible for others to quickly verify Chen Nian’s origins. In truth, even Kang Kung himself did not know which empire Chen Nian came from. Given the urgency of the situation, he had fabricated the story that Chen Nian hailed from the Jing Empire and possessed high status—hence addressing him as “Young Master.”Watching them leave, Chen Dunrui felt the veins on his forehead bulge, anger throbbing painfully within him. He had come to corner Kang Kung, yet he was completely ignored. It was utterly humiliatin

“According to the regulations set by the Empire, anyone who can cure the Empress Dowager will receive a reward—one granted wish and ten thousand high-grade Demon Stones. However, could the second reward be exchanged for another wish instead?”“What do you desire? Let alone two wishes—even more can be granted, within the scope of authority I can command,” Soe Shuwan replied.“I am currently staying with the Kang Clan, and the Kang Clan was destroyed by a tragedy. I do not ask for the clan to be restored. I only request that Kang Zhangsun be released and cleared of the accusations against him.”“I can arrange his release. However, erasing the stain attached to his name is beyond my power. If he is truly innocent, time will prove it. I know that child—he is upright and would not commit wrongdoing while his career was rising,” Soe Shuwan said. She indeed could not alter long-standing public opinion. Only time and proof could wash that away.“I understand and will not press further. As for

Chen Chengdu slammed his fist against the floor. In the next instant, he shot forward, attempting to flee when he noticed Kang Kung momentarily distracted. But Chen Nian teleported instantly, appearing in front of him and kicking him hard in the abdomen, sending him crashing to the ground.Thud!“You’re not thinking of going back on the wager, are you?” Chen Nian said coldly.Chen Chengdu struggled to rise, clutching his aching stomach. He immediately denied it. “Is there any proof that we made a wager?”“What a shameless man!” Kang Kung snapped from behind, furious at such blatant denial. If even his own words could not be trusted, then what could possibly be believed from someone like him?“I don’t care whether you admit it or not. In front of me, the wager stands!” Chen Nian’s hand shot out with terrifying speed. Before anyone could react, his arm had already pierced through Chen Chengdu’s heart.Only a choking cough mixed with blood escaped Chen Chengdu’s mouth. He likely never im
