In a grand and magnificent house stood a clan well known for producing countless powerful cultivators who had now spread across many cities, becoming officials of kingdoms and empires alike.

In Dashan City, this clan stood firm, untouchable, and none dared to cause trouble or provoke them.

Yet, an undesired misfortune befell them. A young man, known to be kind-hearted and immensely talented—once hailed as the future successor of the Patriarch—had now suffered a downfall.

He now lay weak, his energy core destroyed by an unknown assailant. Once admired as a prodigy, he was now deemed trash and mocked by his peers.

Typically, a child would begin training at the age of five. Two years later, they were expected to condense Qi and reach the early stage of the Black Realm. Failure to do so meant being labeled defective, with little chance of ever reaching the highest realms.

But the story was different for the son of Patriarch Chen. At five years old, he had already broken into the Black Realm, and by the age of ten, he had reached the Core Energy Realm. Such achievements stirred envy not only among the other children but also among their parents.

Until a fateful incident occurred a month ago…

He refused to accept his condition, yet what could he do? Every medicine, every treasure had been exhausted in an attempt to repair his energy core, yet no result was shown.

For months, Patriarch Chen Long searched for the culprit, but no progress was made. The only clue was a star-shaped tattoo on the wrist of the one who had crippled his son.

“What a pitiful fate you have, my child!” A tearful voice echoed, accompanied by a mother’s embrace, wetting the face of the ten-year-old boy.

“I am tired, Mother. Tired of being insulted, called trash. I’d rather die than bear this shame, dragging our family’s name into humiliation!”

“Don’t say such things, my son. You must be strong—you are the heir of the clan!” His mother tried to remain steadfast, but her words were difficult to reconcile with reality. For a clan leader had to be strong, not weak and powerless without Qi or inner energy.

“Oh, Mother, you are too kind. Father’s position itself may soon be replaced, for the wolves’ stomachs are growling, eager to tear our small family apart. I am certain what happened to me was the work of someone inside. There’s no need to look far—only the elders knew the place where I trained. This is the beginning of a conspiracy!” Chen Nian voiced his suspicion.

And indeed, such suspicions often missed little.

“It seems you are right. I too only now realize, for I trusted them too much to ever doubt. I will take you to meet Grandpa Ling in Linggau City. Pack your things.” Ling Hua spoke gently and left her son’s room. She walked back toward her chamber to see her husband.

The door creaked open…

“Aaaahhh! Help! There’s a murderer!” Ling Hua screamed in horror upon seeing her husband collapsed, blood seeping from his stomach and mouth.

“Run, my love! We have been betrayed by everyone!”

Ling Hua dashed with all her strength after hearing her husband’s final command. As she ran, she called for the guards, but not a single one came. It was as if everything had been prearranged.

Ling Hua was not a cultivator. She was just an ordinary woman who had married the clan leader by fortune and her beauty. Now her life hung on the edge of death.

Chen Nian, hearing his mother’s scream, rushed out of his room. He saw a man chasing his mother, his weapon dripping with blood. He recognized the figure—it was First Elder Chen Rui, the father of Chen Kai, who had been mocking him relentlessly and even beating him these past days.

“Run, Nian Er! Save your life!” Ling Hua shouted when she saw the fear in her son’s eyes. Chen Nian froze, like a statue, unable to move even an inch.

“Quickly, my son! Run! I will hold him off!” With those words, her body convulsed as a sword pierced her back, thrusting through her chest.

Tears streamed down Chen Nian’s face. Even if his energy core were intact, he would still be powerless against them—let alone now, when it was shattered. He turned and ran, leaving his mother who had sacrificed herself to protect him.

The boy ran out of the house, the heavy rain pouring down as if the heavens themselves mourned his family’s fate.

The pain in his heart was unbearable. He would now be all alone. But within that grief, the fire of vengeance ignited, pushing him to live on.

“Father! Mother! I will avenge your deaths. By the heavens and the earth, and the rain that bears witness!” he screamed as he ran, uncaring of his broken sandals, uncaring of his frail and weak body.

The only thing he cared about now was surviving—so that one day, he could gain strength and ignite the fire of his vengeance.

Chen Rui leapt, kicking off a tree to propel himself far forward, quickly closing in on the fleeing Chen Nian.

That night, the world felt deathly silent, as if only the boy and the First Elder existed, locked in a chase within the clan grounds.

“You cannot run any longer, boy. Hand over the Dragon Bracelet you’re hiding!”

Chen Nian was cornered against a wall. There was no escape. Shouting was useless—for now, several clan members had emerged, yet they only stood watching. Their silence revealed their complicity.

“The strong shall rule!” declared Elder Chen Zhi, a trusted confidant of Chen Long. “Hand over the Dragon Bracelet—the symbol of the Chen Clan’s leadership. Do so, and perhaps the future Patriarch will show you mercy.” His words bore no warmth, only cold cruelty.

“Hahaha!” Chen Rui laughed harshly. “Now you see! Life is about choosing strength over weakness! Chen Long is unfit to be Patriarch, for he has a crippled son like you! He never cared for us—only for you, a boy who can no longer cultivate! Angry, are you?!” Chen Rui’s eyes burned with madness. “Hand over the Dragon Bracelet! Or else!”

“I don’t have it! I already told you, I don’t have it!” the boy cried, voice trembling with the helpless tone of a child under intimidation. “But I will remember this day, and your faces! Remember this—if I survive, if I gain strength, I will return one day to demand retribution for the hatred burning within my heart!”

With that, he pressed something on the wall. A hidden mechanism clicked, and a secret passage opened. His small body fell into it and was swept away by the underground river’s current.

Everyone knew of that escape route—designed for clan members in case of sudden attack.

“I will chase him!” Chen Zhi leapt, but was stopped by Chen Rui.

“No need. That river is filled with crocodiles. If you go after him, it will be in vain. By now, he is surely inside one of their bellies. Do not do anything foolish. Cleanse this clan of the blood and the corpses of that husband and wife. Spread the word of their deaths with some embellishment, and then… we shall hold the ceremony to appoint a new Patriarch!” Chen Rui said with a triumphant smile.

The howling wind carried a biting chill, shaking the branches of the trees surrounding Chen Nian. Although the small storm was powerful enough to send pebbles flying from the ground, Chen Nian remained completely unmoved, sitting cross-legged beneath a formation circle that emitted a faint glow. His eyes were closed, and a golden aura surrounded his body, shielding him from the forces outside. However, there was something strange about the wind. It carried faint whispers, drifting through the air like ghostly voices."You think such a petty formation is enough to protect you?" the voice echoed, cold and filled with contempt.Chen Nian slowly opened his eyes, his gaze sharp. Emerging from the darkness before him was a black-robed figure wearing a mask that concealed half of his face. A dense dark aura enveloped the stranger's body, radiating an oppressive pressure even greater than that of the Grand Elder before."Who are you?" Chen Nian asked calmly, though he could already sense the

Chen Nian raised his hand once more, forming a circle of glowing energy symbols that floated in the air. With a decisive motion, he shattered the circle, causing the golden chains binding the Grand Elder to blaze with dazzling light.A massive explosion of radiant energy engulfed the Grand Elder, crushing him beneath an overwhelming force until he could no longer move. He struggled desperately, but his power was steadily drained away."This is the power of strategy and preparation," Chen Nian said coldly. "You relied too much on brute strength. Now face the consequences."With one final command, Chen Nian condensed all the energy within the formation into a single devastating wave of golden light. The blast struck the Grand Elder head-on, sending him flying across the battlefield before crashing violently into the ground. The dark energy surrounding him vanished instantly.Watching from a distance, Kai and Muning could only stare in astonishment."Chen Nian is... incredible," Kai mutt

The roar of surging energy echoed through the air, shaking the ground and making the atmosphere tremble. High above the darkened sky, the Grand Elder of the Ghost Sect floated with an overwhelming aura. His body was shrouded in dense black energy, creating a massive vortex of wind around him."Lowly humans," the Grand Elder's voice thundered with utter contempt. "How dare you set foot in our territory? I'll make sure none of you leave here alive!"Kai, standing beside Chen Nian, widened his eyes as he sensed the astonishing energy fluctuations radiating from the Grand Elder."A Fourth-Level Divine King Realm?!" he exclaimed in shock. "This is bad, Chen Nian. Someone this powerful could wipe us out in an instant!"Chen Nian remained calm, his gaze fixed unwaveringly on the Grand Elder above. With a slow motion, he raised one hand to calm Kai."Don't panic, Kai. Fear will only make us lose control."The Grand Elder let out a mocking laugh."So this brat is your leader? Pathetic. I'll gr

Meanwhile, Chen Nian and Muning moved through narrow, dimly lit alleyways, carefully avoiding the patrols by following hidden paths that were barely visible.Chen Nian stopped at a corner, pressed a small map against the wall, and marked it with a piece of chalk.“This route is relatively safe, but we still have to be careful. They may have energy detection devices nearby.”Muning nodded.“I noticed the guards are patrolling the eastern district more frequently. They’ve probably reinforced security there.”Chen Nian nodded in agreement.“Then we’ll avoid that route. Our priority is to find the weak point in their defensive formation.”As they ventured deeper, Chen Nian suddenly sensed something unusual. The air around them grew heavy, as if an invisible force was slowly pressing down on their bodies.“Muning... do you feel that?”She nodded.“It feels like... an energy trap.”Suddenly, the ground beneath them trembled. From the surrounding shadows, five masked figures dressed in black

As soon as they passed through the gate and entered the Sky Ghost Clan's territory, the atmosphere changed drastically. Small villages filled with shabby houses lined the roads, surrounded by barren fields. The villagers worked with lifeless expressions, while patrol squads marched back and forth with cold, emotionless faces.“This place feels like a nest of death,” Kai muttered quietly.Chen Nian carefully scanned his surroundings.“It’s more than just a nest. They deliberately created this atmosphere to instill fear in anyone who enters.”Muning whispered, “What’s our next move, Chen Nian?”“We’ll find a place to observe and gather information. First, we need to locate the center of their power and identify the person in charge of this region,” Chen Nian replied in a low voice. They headed to a small, quiet inn. There, Chen Nian paid for a room using counterfeit gold coins that had been prepared in advance. Once inside, the three gathered to discuss their next step.Chen Nian pulled

Chen Nian gave a faint smile. “If that happens, we won’t run. Instead, we’ll create enough chaos to force them to divert their attention away from the Zetian Sect. This is a high-risk mission, but the reward will be worth it.”At dawn, Chen Nian and his team arrived at the border of the Sky Ghost Clan's territory. Before them stood towering watchtowers surrounded by an unnatural blanket of thick mist. The mist glowed with a faint green light, hinting at a deadly poison capable of killing anyone who stepped carelessly into it.Chen Nian slowed his pace and raised his hand, signaling the team to stop.“We’re close now. This isn’t ordinary poisonous mist. I can sense that its energy is part of their defensive formation. One small mistake, and all of us could die.”Standing behind him, Muning frowned.“So how do we get through without arousing suspicion? Even with the illusion formation, they must have detection tools here.”Chen Nian studied the watchtower for a moment before smiling fai
