At the other side of the hall were Mr. Jonathan Clifford and Mr. Paul Gold, no doubt that they were having a deep conversation, their voice deep and not to be heard by a third party.

“His son is back in town!” Paul went ahead to mention to Jonathan in between the conversation; at first, Jonathan had no idea what he meant, but seeing the expression on his face, he froze right there.

“You are saying that Pan's son is back, I thought you sent him away for good?” Paul's words sent a jolt through Jonathan's Demeanor; his eyes widened, and he suddenly became pale.

“I thought that I did, but I have no idea how he was able to come back.” Paul let out a long sigh, his fingers tapping on the desk, the memory of what happened five years ago still vivid in his memory.

“We need to get rid of him as soon as possible, now that my son is climbing the ladder, the last thing that I need right now is someone ruining everything for us”

“You don't have to worry about him, he is a worthless human who just came back from jail, there is nothing that he is capable of doing, I put him in his place once I am sure that I am going to do it again”

Paul went further to assure him, and just while the air around them was starting to get easy, they could hear a commotion outside the hall where the event was supposed to take place.

Paul and Jonathan quickly rushed to the main hall, their eyes scrutinizing everyone while they tried to grasp the idea of what was happening until their gaze landed on Anna, who was in tears.

“Anna!” Paul called out as he rushed to his daughter, seeing her in tears.

“What is going on?” He asked and just then, his gaze landed on the man standing next to her with a nonchalant expression on his face.

“And what is this wretched human doing here?” His expression had gone dark with the presence of Kyle on such an important occasion

“I am here to witness the promotion of a lieutenant, or am I not permitted to be here?” his voice rippled with sarcasm

Paul felt cold, about to throw a response at him, but seeing how much Anna was sobbing and Jake was nowhere to be found, he could guess that Kyle wasn't the problem.

“Talk to me, Anna; what is going on?”

“It's Jake….” She strutters, struggling to get back her voice.

“They withdrew the promotion he was supposed to get, turned out he offended a very important high rank military personal”

She was almost choking on her voice as she spoke. Anna had waited so much for this day, he had been a lieutenant for such a long time that each time she was gathered with the wives of military men, they never failed to make fun of her husband's rank.

When he finally received the letter of promotion, Anna was so excited, but now, she could not comprehend what was going on.

Paul froze right there with this information he had just received, his eyes widened in utmost shock.

“That is not possible, do you know how much string his father and I pulled to get him here, there is no high-rank military personnel that wasn't informed of this promotion”

“You can't be so sure about that!” Kyle's voice suddenly came through while he rose to his feet; there was this disdainful smugness that he could not wipe off, and both his hands tugged into his pocket.

“Who said you could speak, why is he even still here!” Paul let his gaze trailed at Kyle from head to toe in disgust before he signaled for the securities at the other side of the hall.

“Don't bother Dad, I already tried that,” Anna insisted, but the officers immediately hurried over to Paul.

“Get this man thrown out of here, and when you do, give him the beaten of his life, that way, he never ever gets to step his feet and inch close to my family”

He ordered, his voice laced with threat and fury, but the officers quickly drifted back, their gaze warmed up with unknown fright.

“Didn't you just hear me speak right now, take this man away and have him beaten up until he comes back to his senses!”

He ordered again, this time more vigorously just in case they hadn't heard the first time or had failed to recognize him, yet they remained calm, their head facing the ground.

“I told you Dad, I already tried that, but for some reason, they wouldn't have him thrown out of here, I guess he is so scary for an ex-convict”

Anna let out an exasperated sigh while she went ahead to explain the situation to him, tears rolling down her cheek.

“Dad, what are we going to do regarding Jake's promotion now?”

“Let me deal with this lunatic here first,” Paul insisted; he was standing just as he said from Kyle; his face was boiling in sweat and rage.

Kyle was an image of his late father, and that was enough reason to despise him. This face couldn't stop reminding him of what had happened five years ago, and he had to get rid of him.

“I don't know what game you are playing with these low-rank military officers, but have been in this game far longer than you can think of, and if you don't stay away from my family and meme, trust me when I say that you will be getting more than just a life sentence this time around.”

He threatened; there was a tense silence between the both of them until Kyle broke the silence with a broad smile that crept through his face.

“Rather than chasing after clouds, Paul, I think you should start finding a way to solve the problems in your family; you can't get rid of me, I am back in town, and I am going to be sticking around for a long time.”

“Well, let's see how that goes for you,” Paul called out his bluff as he watched him storm out of there.

Kyle hurried back to his car, tugging back his seatbelt, he steered off the engine of his car as he drove off.

A few miles away from the Gold's location, he noticed a car following him behind. Kyle was certain that the same car was at the venue when he had just left.

Yet he remained calm driving at a usual speed, a cool music to keep the air flowing.

“Alex!” Kyle called out, soon as he had placed a call to Alex, Alex did not seem to hesitate in answering the call.

“I am being followed now and I can only guess that it's the Gold family”

“Yes general, what do you want me to do?”

“Set the car ablaze!” He ordered his gaze dark and piercing through the busy road.

After driving for a few miles, Kyle noticed that the car was gone and no longer trailing him, but just when he thought that he was out of the woods, Another car out of nowhere came smashing right at him.

Their car lost its balance despite how much the driver struggled to navigate it through the storm.

Bouncing and rolling a few times, it finally came crashing just before the cliff.

He could hear a wincing sound in his ear for a long while, reminded of his time during the war at Porel City when they had been sent on a mission and had no idea that it was an ambush.

Kyle had lost several of his men during that mission; it had traumatized him, and right now, with the sound buzzing through his ear, he felt this surge of pain and anger crushing through his spine that he badly wanted to get them to pay for all the pain they had caused him.
