Chapter Fourteen: A little Chit Chat

Nicolas looked at his grandmother with curiosity and concern. "You were alone for all these years?" he asked. "How did you spend your time?"

His grandmother smiled, a faraway look in her eyes. "I kept myself busy," she said. "I took care of the estate, did the shopping and cooking, and kept the house clean. I read a lot, too. I also took long walks in the gardens and spent a lot of time thinking and reflecting. It was a simple life, but it was peaceful and quiet. I liked it that way."

There was a pause, and then Nicolas spoke up again "But, didn't you ever feel lonely?" Nicolas asked. "I mean, you didn't have any family or friends. How did you deal with that?"

His grandmother's expression softened. "Well, at first, it was difficult," she admitted. "I missed my family and friends terribly. But over time, I learned to enjoy my own company. I came to appreciate the silence and the stillness. It gave me a chance to reflect on my life and to be grateful
