Chapter 3

Williams stood on his feet, his gaze fixed on Kane. “Not much," he replied honestly. "But enough to give you a clue about them and where they stay.”

"Spill them out."

Williams was reluctant. “My son," he muttered. “He's dying. Let's save him first."

Kane shot him a glare. “Is this why you claim to have some information? So, I can heal your son?”

"No, no,” Williams shook his head vigorously. "Not really. I genuinely do have the information you need. Trust me.”

A brief hesitation.

Kane pocketed his hands. “Make arrangements," he finally agreed. "Let's leave.”

Williams exhaled, relieved. “Thank you, thank you, Mr. Kane." He quickly bowed his head in gratitude.

After that, he turned and hurried away to prepare Kane's documentation of release and also the vehicle that would convey them to the hospital.

The other officers scrambled behind him.

Meanwhile, Kane stood tall, hands still in his pockets, totally looking nonchalant.

His eyes scanned the whole place. From the ceiling down to the rough-looking floor. Then to a corner in the prison. The spot where the Bo Chen who taught him everything he knows now sat before he finally disappeared from the prison with no trace.

A sigh escaped as the man's image flashed through his mind.

His gaze then moved…..

To every one of his inmates’ faces.

They had been quietly observing.

But just that moment…..it happened all of a sudden.

Unexpectedly.

One after the other, the inmates began to drop to their knees in respect. From the highly notorious killers down to the lowest.

“Long live, the greatest King Kane!"

“Long live, the greatest King Kane!"

“We all will miss you, but safe journey."

Their heads remained lowered. Faces down.

The place went still again as Kane opened his mouth to speak.

"Thank you all,” he started with all forms of calmness. "I'm leaving as you already know, however, this doesn't mean there should be violence. I want absolute peace, love, and unity among you all. No bullying. No hatred. Nothing….just pure love."

He beckoned to one of the inmates.

He stepped forward. He was a huge, towering man with heavy muscles. He had been the head of other inmates, controlling them. The man who tried to take Kane the very first day he was brought into the cell, but ended up having his left hand broken.

"Boss?” He bowed in great respect.

Kane looked at him. "I'm leaving. Take over everything again. But this time, no one should be bullied. No intimidations. Whoever goes against your command, show him his place."

“Noted, King!" He nodded.

Just then, Williams returned.

“Everything's ready," he announced. “Follow me, please."

Kane didn't say a thing. He took in every face again, before turning and exiting the place.

But behind him…

“Farewell, King! We hope you find your father's murderers and teach them a lesson.”

But their voices faded as Kane exited completely.

Outside….

The brightness shone on his face. Kane felt a cool breeze wrap around him as he stepped outside.

He blinked.

This was his first time seeing the brightness of a day after being locked up for almost seven years. And without being deceptive to himself, Kane felt he was human again.

Where he stood, looking around, he felt his hand balling into a tight fist.

The outside world reminded him of his dead father who was brutally killed. And also, his seven years of no freedom.

He gritted his teeth.

“This way," Williams interrupted carefully, tone in check. Kane's fist loosened.

He gave a small nod.

In front of them, was a black, plush Mercedes-Benz, waiting for them. Armed guards opened the doors, bowing their heads.

Kane entered.

Next…Williams.

The doors closed with soft clicks.

Thirty seconds passed before the car's engine roared to life. The large, black gate slid open. Then, the car dashed out of the compound.

………

At the hospital.

Kane stepped out of the car, expression completely unreadable.

Williams followed.

He observed Kane for a second. Then finally, "this way,” he pointed.

As they moved through the corridor, people continued to stare in admiration at Williams Johnson. However, their faces twisted in slight irritation as their gazes shifted to the tall, young, rough-looking man, who was walking side by side with Hank.

Kane Wade.

They started to wonder who he was.

Finally, Williams held the doorknob of a ward and twisted it open.

Right in front of them—a head lifted— was a little boy around the age of ten, laying helplessly on the hospital bed. His skin was pale.

Seated next to him was a woman, in her early thirties. Her expression was a total trace of exhaustion.

Standing was a doctor, slightly grey-haired. He was putting on a laboratory coat over his medical wear.

Williams rushed inside. “Darling,” he quickly called out, taking a seat close to her. His gaze scanned his son and his heart skipped.

“What happened and how did it happen?” He asked.

Priscila Williams, his wife, looked at him weakly. "Can't explain how it all happened. He woke up this morning, only to be complaining about how weak he was. The next thing….he collapsed."

Tears formed in her eyes as she was narrating. “Rushed him down to the hospital. The doctor had carried out several tests on him but still can't find anything.”

“It’s a weird illness," the doctor admitted.

Williams’ gaze shifted to the doctor. "And since then you haven't done anything to save him?”

The doctor swallowed hard. “The illness has to be diagnosed firstly before anything can be done. However, I have tried suspected medications on him and I'm also still trying all I can to diagnose the illness. I promise.”

Williams waved him off with his hand. "Since you can't save him, I have brought someone who can do that.”

His gaze moved toward the door, where Kane was standing. He beckoned. "Please, come in, Mr. Kane.”

  • Chapter 9: Strange faces

Chapter 9Kane winked. The name sounded familiar to him. But he couldn't instantly tell or remember where he had heard such a name. He waved it off and straightened his posture. “Bo Chen?" He repeated. “Who's that?" The lady looked up slightly. “The old man from the prison. The one who taught you what you know now." Boom! The word struck. He remembered. He shifted. "You mean Bo Chen, the old man from the prison?” The lady tilted her head. "Yes,” she confirmed. "Where's he?” Kane quickly asked. The lady's lips parted with a smile. “That's why we're here," she said. “He sent us to bring you to him." Kane narrowed his eyes between the men and the lady before finally settling them on the lady. A trace of doubt and suspicion crossed his face. Bo Chen had suddenly disappeared from the prison with no trace of where he was. And suddenly, he's sending people to bring him?How did he even know he was out of prison? Kane questioned himself in his mind. Then another thought came. What

"I don't care to know who you are, but I want you to disappear now. Just as you came.”No movement.Kane didn't even bother to look at his face. His fist tightened."I'm talking to you,” he roared, eyes turning red. Kane lifted his head. Just a bit and slowly. "I said, stand up and disappear!” No answer immediately. Then a second passed and….."That's what you should do. Not me," Kane finally responded. “This is my house." Brian blinked, taken aback by his response. His men exchanged looks. His wide-open palm instinctively reached out, grabbing the man's clenched fist, stopping him completely. The man tried to break out, but he couldn't. Kane's grip was something else. People had already gathered to watch. Their eyes widened. These men living in this room were feared by many in the neighborhood. Some stood straight to scan the car. A trace of fear was slowly creeping onto their faces. Some parents were secretly pulling their children closer, whispering to them to hurry inside. At that moment while they were watching, a tall, calm figure stepped down from the car. It was Kane Wade. And this is his hometown. He hadn't forgotten it. He took in the place briefly before pulling out a bill from the money Williams Johnson had given him and handing it to the driver. He turned and started to walk toward a particular building.
