Chapter 4
Kane walked in, his hands still in his pockets, looking totally calm. Priscila looked at him from head to toe, disgust flashing through her face. The doctor stared at him while he walked further, his face wrinkling with deep irritation. “Who's he?" Priscila asked, her gaze moving to Williams then Kane. “One of the prisoners," Williams answered. “Brought him here to save our son." “What?" The doctor shouted, not believing his ears. “You brought a prisoner to my hospital to save your son, Mr. Williams?” Williams cleared his throat. “He's no longer one. He was wrongly accused and has been released." “An ex-convict?" The doctor snapped, “Unbelievable!” His gaze sharpened at Kane. “Do you have any medical qualifications? Do you even have any formal training? What makes you think an ex-convict like you can save his son when I, a professional medical practitioner, haven't been able to even diagnose the illness?" “That's because you don't know your job," Kane replied harshly. The doctor's face flushed with red. “How dare you come to my hospital to insult me?" His fist tightened. “I'm fifty years old and have been in this profession for more than two decades. Do you even know what that means? I'm experienced. Fucking experienced." His teeth gritted. “And you dare open your gutter to tell me I don't know my duty?” He turned quickly, facing Williams. “Mr. Williams, I don't care to know where you picked this arrogant bastard from, but I want him out of this place this minute.” Although he spoke furiously, he knew better to keep his tone in check. Williams Johnson wasn't just an ordinary human being. Aside from being the senior officer in charge of keeping watch over prisoners, Williams holds substantial power in the city. People respect or tremble at his name. “Oh, shut up!" Williams roared at him. He flinched, winking his eyes. "I—” The doctor tried to speak. But— “I say, keep the fuck up!" Williams barked. “Who do you think you are?" That statement alone struck. The doctor's heart sank. Deeply. “My son has been here for over an hour now and yet nothing has been done to save him. You haven't even identified the illness just yet. Now, someone who can save him is here and you want me to throw him out? As what?" A brief pause. “Or don't you know it's my son's life at stake here?" His face twisted with annoyance. “The doctor is right,” Priscilia cut in, "this is our son we're talking about here, Williams. And you want someone, a former convict, with no experience in the medical field, to work on him? How does that even make sense!" Williams took a deep breath as he looked at Priscilia. “Believe me, I have seen him perform extraordinarily. Heal bones. Much more than I can start explaining.” He halted, his tone calming. "Let's just give him a chance, darling.” He tried to place his hand gently on her shoulder, maybe to soften her mind, but the latter yanked it off. “I'm not in for this, Williams!" She shot back. “Do whatever you choose, but nothing must happen to our son! Because if it does, I won't forgive you and that ends our marriage!" “What—” "Those are my words!" Her tone was sharp and final. Williams’ heart sank deeply. A trace of skepticism crossed his face as his gaze shifted to Kane. What if after everything, nothing is done? He'd lose both his son and marriage. His breath hitched. For a moment he couldn't speak. He was in a tight situation. But then—- He remembered. Kane had done the impossible back there in the prison. A flicker of slight relief replaced the trace of doubt written on his face. He took a deep, shaky breath. "Please, start the work, Mr. Kane,” he called. Kane nodded and marched forward. “You’re having faith in what this ex-convict can do over mine,” the doctor uttered. "That's the worst mistake ever!” Priscilia looked at her husband with utter disbelief. She couldn't believe he still went ahead to invite this young man after everything she just said. She refused to say a word. Kane scanned Williams’ son from head to toe as he lay on the bed. After a few minutes, he said, “It's Somnium Rot.” The revelation sent the room into silence. Everyone exchanged confused glances. The doctor hadn't been able to diagnose the critical patient and now, Kane is claiming it's Somnium….. whatsoever. The doctor frowned. Then he smirked mockingly. “What did you just call it?" He inquired, digging his ear. “Somnium…what?" He turned sharply. “Mr. Williams, did you just hear? Somnium Rot. He hasn't done a single thing and he's concluded.” His gaze moved, his expression darkening as he turned toward the security guards. “Throw him out." He barked an order. They moved. However— Williams blocked the path. "If you dare,” he said coolly. He did not need to complete his statement. The doctor stared at him with disbelief. "I can't believe you still trust this bastard when the sign is obvious that he's fake.. He's only preying on your desperation to save your son. Why can't you see it, Mr. Williams?” No answer. "I'm so sorry for that interruption,” Williams said to Kane instead. "Please, carry on.” Kane tilted. Then he pointed. "Get me Achor-Draught. Siren’s willow bark. Sun-drop nectar. Brine-lotus root. And warm, black tea. I want to start.” They hesitated, disbelief in their eyes, wondering what he'd be needing that for. Williams shot. “Are you deaf? Get them now!" The person hurried away with trembling feet. The doctor let out a sarcastic laugh. Loud enough. "Firstly, a falsely claimed experiment. Now, some breakfast. This is quite entertaining. Let's see how it goes." He crossed his arms. A few minutes later, the ingredients arrived. Although they were rare, they got in on time due to Williams’ influence. Kane took them. He didn't delay, but not in a hurry. He started to work. He prepared Anchor-Draught, putting the Siren’s Willow bark and Brine-Lotus into the warm, black tea He then added a single, glowing drop of Sun-Drop Nectar on top. Steam began to rise. Everyone watched in silence. The doctor's face twitched with disgust. “What nonsense are you even performing?" He cursed. Kane didn't bother to answer him. He glared at him at Kane, anger brimming beneath. Kane stepped closer to the bed, holding the glass cup. He gently helped Williams' son up, opened his mouth, and then poured a small, but satisfying amount of the liquid into his mouth through a slight opening. Nothing delayed. The aftermath happened immediately. Williams’ son started to cough out something dark. Priscilia’s eyes widened. "What's happening?” She turned and grabbed Williams' collar. “You see what you have caused? We all told you he isn't capable, but you didn't listen! Now, see! Our son is dying!" The doctor chimed in. “The moment I saw him, I knew he was nothing but a scam!” He faced Kane. "Young man, whatever you have done to make this happen, better rever—-" His words didn't come out completely when— Liam, Williams' son, eyes fluttered open, his vision a bit blurry, but capable of recognizing all familiar faces. “Mom….Dad!” She called out their names, weakly.Latest Chapter

Chapter 9: Strange faces
Chapter 9Kane winked. The name sounded familiar to him. But he couldn't instantly tell or remember where he had heard such a name. He waved it off and straightened his posture. “Bo Chen?" He repeated. “Who's that?" The lady looked up slightly. “The old man from the prison. The one who taught you what you know now." Boom! The word struck. He remembered. He shifted. "You mean Bo Chen, the old man from the prison?” The lady tilted her head. "Yes,” she confirmed. "Where's he?” Kane quickly asked. The lady's lips parted with a smile. “That's why we're here," she said. “He sent us to bring you to him." Kane narrowed his eyes between the men and the lady before finally settling them on the lady. A trace of doubt and suspicion crossed his face. Bo Chen had suddenly disappeared from the prison with no trace of where he was. And suddenly, he's sending people to bring him?How did he even know he was out of prison? Kane questioned himself in his mind. Then another thought came. What
Chapter 8: Brian couldn't believe his eyes
Chapter 8Hearing that, Brian turned to his men and let out a smirk. “He's brave, isn't he?" He asked, amusingly. The latter nodded, all with an entertained smirk. "Bravery leading to death.” "Hahaha.” The men laughed. Brian then turned to face Kane. His face turned dark. "Hey, you crazy?” He asked, his tone hardening. "I don't care to know who you are, but I want you to disappear now. Just as you came.”No movement.Kane didn't even bother to look at his face. His fist tightened."I'm talking to you,” he roared, eyes turning red. Kane lifted his head. Just a bit and slowly. "I said, stand up and disappear!” No answer immediately. Then a second passed and….."That's what you should do. Not me," Kane finally responded. “This is my house." Brian blinked, taken aback by his response. His men exchanged looks. Just then..Brian crashed out. "How dare you talk back at me!” Without any other word, he turned, grabbed a bottle from one of his men, weighed it at Kane's level, and
Chapter 7: Brian's Entry
Chapter 7Kane didn't flinch. He didn't even make a move. He stood at that same spot, his expression unreadable. But he only reacted. His wide-open palm instinctively reached out, grabbing the man's clenched fist, stopping him completely. The man tried to break out, but he couldn't. Kane's grip was something else. People had already gathered to watch. Their eyes widened. These men living in this room were feared by many in the neighborhood. And just one man is standing against them?Kane looked straight into the man's eyes. His own eyes were cold. Without any warning, he twisted the man's arms. It cracked. A sharp groan escaped the man's lips. “Arrhh!" He screamed, wincing in extreme pain. "Was gentle but you tried to show how arrogant you are.” He twisted his arm again. Then, what followed was a brutal kick in the stomach. The man staggered backward and landed helplessly on the ground, coughing vehemently, clutching his stomach. The second man, the last man standing, wi
Chapter 6: Kane visits his village
Chapter 6That evening….In a village, in a particular compound, not really tidy, people moved around, carrying out different chores. Some mothers backed their children, pressing the others against themselves while staying focused. The compound was busy with chores. Just then—A car pulled over and stopped. Chores stopped. Some stood straight to scan the car. A trace of fear was slowly creeping onto their faces. Some parents were secretly pulling their children closer, whispering to them to hurry inside. At that moment while they were watching, a tall, calm figure stepped down from the car. It was Kane Wade. And this is his hometown. He hadn't forgotten it. He took in the place briefly before pulling out a bill from the money Williams Johnson had given him and handing it to the driver. He turned and started to walk toward a particular building. All eyes followed him, watching in silence. Kane then paused. In front of him stood an abandoned building. The building was bui
