Chapter 1: Old memories
Chapter 1Ten years ago, around 10:10 p.m.The door burst open with a loud bang. And five men, their faces hidden behind black masks, carrying guns and knives, stormed inside the room. A father was startled, pulling his little child to his side with quivering hands. Kane Wade. He shook uncontrollably against his father's arm. His father was already on the ground, his forehead sweaty. “W—who are you,” Kane’s father stammered, his lips shivering, “and what do you want from us?”He continued, still shaking. "Is it money, property documents, or what? You can have them all, but please, don't harm us.”The men exchanged looks. One amongst the men—the leader—shook his head, his face filled with a sinister smile. “I’m sorry, but we are sent to kill you.”"What?” Kane's father's heart drummed. Even Kane’s. He was just fourteen, but he knew what that meant. "Kill me? Why? I have offended no one.”He pressed Kane against himself tightly. "Please, don't kill us." He sobbed.“My father is a g

Chapter 2Silence erupted in the room. No sound was made. Just extreme stillness.Amongst the inmates, a tall figure, having broad shoulders stood up from where he was sitting. Kane Wade.He was now in his early twenties. He had even developed a beard while in prison for close to a decade. He stretched himself, parts of his body cracking with a soft but audible noise. He looked at Williams, his expression unreadable. He waited. Then he asked. “What did you just say?" Williams swallowed. "After the incident that night, we pushed forward into the matter. After years of investigating the matter, we finally found an old hidden CCTV camera. It displayed everything. You only did what anyone could have done.”A brief pause. "That's why we're here to set you free." Kane's expression remained unreadable, but something darkened beneath his eyes. “Got accused and locked up for almost a decade without proper investigation and now you come to tell me I'm free and that I can now go. Just so ca

Chapter 3Williams stood on his feet, his gaze fixed on Kane. “Not much," he replied honestly. "But enough to give you a clue about them and where they stay.”"Spill them out." Williams was reluctant. “My son," he muttered. “He's dying. Let's save him first." Kane shot him a glare. “Is this why you claim to have some information? So, I can heal your son?” "No, no,” Williams shook his head vigorously. "Not really. I genuinely do have the information you need. Trust me.”A brief hesitation. Kane pocketed his hands. “Make arrangements," he finally agreed. "Let's leave.”Williams exhaled, relieved. “Thank you, thank you, Mr. Kane." He quickly bowed his head in gratitude. After that, he turned and hurried away to prepare Kane's documentation of release and also the vehicle that would convey them to the hospital. The other officers scrambled behind him. Meanwhile, Kane stood tall, hands still in his pockets, totally looking nonchalant. His eyes scanned the whole place. From the ceil

Chapter 4Kane walked in, his hands still in his pockets, looking totally calm. Priscila looked at him from head to toe, disgust flashing through her face. The doctor stared at him while he walked further, his face wrinkling with deep irritation. “Who's he?" Priscila asked, her gaze moving to Williams then Kane. “One of the prisoners," Williams answered. “Brought him here to save our son." “What?" The doctor shouted, not believing his ears. “You brought a prisoner to my hospital to save your son, Mr. Williams?”Williams cleared his throat. “He's no longer one. He was wrongly accused and has been released." “An ex-convict?" The doctor snapped, “Unbelievable!” His gaze sharpened at Kane. “Do you have any medical qualifications? Do you even have any formal training? What makes you think an ex-convict like you can save his son when I, a professional medical practitioner, haven't been able to even diagnose the illness?" “That's because you don't know your job," Kane replied harshl

Chapter 5The words went straight back into the doctor's mouth, shame instantly covering his face. His heart drummed.“You’re…..awake!” Priscilia rushed to her son's side, pulling him tightly against her side. Her voice broke with emotion. “We're happy to see you! Thank God!" A relieved breath. Then her gaze went up. It landed on Kane. A mixture of shame and embarrassment washed over her face. She felt her face contort with regret. She rose. And without any word, she dropped to her knees, hands clasped together. A gasp rippled across the room. But no one dared utter a word."I—I’m….” She stammered, her voice cracking, "Sorry for not believing in you, for doubting what you can do. I sincerely ask for your mercy," she said genuinely, eyes filled with regret. “Forgive me." Kane had nothing much against her. Every caring and loving mother would always do the same thing she did. Therefore, he simply said, “Please, stand up." Priscilia’s gaze remained on him. Disbelief in her eyes.
Chapter 6: Kane visits his village
Chapter 6That evening….In a village, in a particular compound, not really tidy, people moved around, carrying out different chores. Some mothers backed their children, pressing the others against themselves while staying focused. The compound was busy with chores. Just then—A car pulled over and stopped. Chores stopped. Some stood straight to scan the car. A trace of fear was slowly creeping onto their faces. Some parents were secretly pulling their children closer, whispering to them to hurry inside. At that moment while they were watching, a tall, calm figure stepped down from the car. It was Kane Wade. And this is his hometown. He hadn't forgotten it. He took in the place briefly before pulling out a bill from the money Williams Johnson had given him and handing it to the driver. He turned and started to walk toward a particular building. All eyes followed him, watching in silence. Kane then paused. In front of him stood an abandoned building. The building was bui
Chapter 7: Brian's Entry
Chapter 7Kane didn't flinch. He didn't even make a move. He stood at that same spot, his expression unreadable. But he only reacted. His wide-open palm instinctively reached out, grabbing the man's clenched fist, stopping him completely. The man tried to break out, but he couldn't. Kane's grip was something else. People had already gathered to watch. Their eyes widened. These men living in this room were feared by many in the neighborhood. And just one man is standing against them?Kane looked straight into the man's eyes. His own eyes were cold. Without any warning, he twisted the man's arms. It cracked. A sharp groan escaped the man's lips. “Arrhh!" He screamed, wincing in extreme pain. "Was gentle but you tried to show how arrogant you are.” He twisted his arm again. Then, what followed was a brutal kick in the stomach. The man staggered backward and landed helplessly on the ground, coughing vehemently, clutching his stomach. The second man, the last man standing, wi
Chapter 8: Brian couldn't believe his eyes
Chapter 8Hearing that, Brian turned to his men and let out a smirk. “He's brave, isn't he?" He asked, amusingly. The latter nodded, all with an entertained smirk. "Bravery leading to death.” "Hahaha.” The men laughed. Brian then turned to face Kane. His face turned dark. "Hey, you crazy?” He asked, his tone hardening. "I don't care to know who you are, but I want you to disappear now. Just as you came.”No movement.Kane didn't even bother to look at his face. His fist tightened."I'm talking to you,” he roared, eyes turning red. Kane lifted his head. Just a bit and slowly. "I said, stand up and disappear!” No answer immediately. Then a second passed and….."That's what you should do. Not me," Kane finally responded. “This is my house." Brian blinked, taken aback by his response. His men exchanged looks. Just then..Brian crashed out. "How dare you talk back at me!” Without any other word, he turned, grabbed a bottle from one of his men, weighed it at Kane's level, and
Chapter 9: Strange faces
Chapter 9Kane winked. The name sounded familiar to him. But he couldn't instantly tell or remember where he had heard such a name. He waved it off and straightened his posture. “Bo Chen?" He repeated. “Who's that?" The lady looked up slightly. “The old man from the prison. The one who taught you what you know now." Boom! The word struck. He remembered. He shifted. "You mean Bo Chen, the old man from the prison?” The lady tilted her head. "Yes,” she confirmed. "Where's he?” Kane quickly asked. The lady's lips parted with a smile. “That's why we're here," she said. “He sent us to bring you to him." Kane narrowed his eyes between the men and the lady before finally settling them on the lady. A trace of doubt and suspicion crossed his face. Bo Chen had suddenly disappeared from the prison with no trace of where he was. And suddenly, he's sending people to bring him?How did he even know he was out of prison? Kane questioned himself in his mind. Then another thought came. What
Chapter 10: The Movement
Chapter 10As Kane stormed out, the lady swallowed hard. Her heart dropped in slight relief. Then she looked at the men and gestured to four of them. “Tidy up the whole place," she ordered then turned. “You," she pointed at three. “Follow." ……Inside the car as it moved, Kane was seated in the back seat, leaning against the window while completely staring at nothing. In front, at the passenger’s seat, the lady looked through the rearview mirror hung in front of the driver's seat, looking at Kane's face. She took in a deep breath then exhaled heavily. Subsequently, she turned, now looking at Kane over her shoulder. "Young master, Kane,” she called out, her voice breaking. "I'm sorry for what happened back there. It wasn't intentional." She admitted. No answer. Kane continued to stare through the window. “I—-”“Then why did you do it?" Kane then leaned back into the car. He shifted on his seat, leaning backward. “You killed them and you said it wasn't intentional? What's the
