Cheated And Denied

Damien looked at the address on his phone, then raised his head and gazed at the number written on the door to confirm if he was truly at the right place.

"Yeah, I guess this is where I'm to deliver the package."

Damien lowered the package to the ground then dropped it. After that, he knocked on the door twice.

Knock! Knock!

At first, there was no reply, and when he knocked for the second time, a voice came through. The voice sounded so much like his girlfriend, Sophia. Damien paused for a few seconds, trying to process it. There was no doubt it was definitely her, but Damien didn't jump into conclusion, Instead, he waited for the door to open.

Just then, the door slid open, and to his greatest surprise, it was her—Sophia, his so-called girlfriend—standing right in front of him, in an apartment that wasn't hers, neither his. Then whose?

As she saw him, Sophia flinched, and the glass cup she was holding slipped from her hands and fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.

"Damien, what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice cracking with guilt.

Damien stood frozen, his lips twitching. All the words he wanted spilling out from his mouth got stuck in his gut.

He stared at Sophia, dumbfounded. Thousands of thoughts ran through his mind at that moment, and he was just hoping that what he was thinking wasn't true, because there was no way in his entire life he had ever thought Sophia would cheat on him.

"What's the problem, baby? Who is at the door?" a deep, tranquil voice called out from the bedroom.

"Um, it's just a delivery guy. I think he's here to deliver the package you ordered. But don't worry, I will take the package from him."

Sophia replied, chuckling while rubbing her hair shamefully as she stared at Damien. She knew she was caught red-handed, and she wouldn't want Orion, the man she was with, to know that Damien was her boyfriend. If he did, all her plans of getting the huge sums of money he had promised her would be ruined.

"Delivery guy?" Damien muttered in disbelief.

“Listen, Damien, I know I have wronged you, but you have to understand the fact here. I'm not going to stick with you in poverty. I'm a woman; I need someone rich to take care of me. All the pennies you have offered me won't be enough, and you know that!”

Damien had come to deliver condoms to the apartment, and the last thing he could expect was seeing his girlfriend in the same apartment. It was hard for him to believe what was about to happen.

“Hunny, have you collected the condoms from the delivery guy?” the man who had spoken earlier asked.

“Yeah, I did, but give me just some seconds,” Sophia turned as she replied, then shifted her gaze back to Damien. “If you know what's good for you, you better leave here,” she warned.

And just then, the man whose voice had sounded earlier stepped forward without a shirt. The only thing on his body was a towel wrapped around his waist.

He grabbed Sophia by the waist, then yanked her over to his chest and kissed her on the lips.

"Babe, can't wait to make you scream tonight. And besides, why are you taking so long to discharge the delivery guy?" he asked.

Damien stared, confusion written all over him. And it was less expected that the man standing in front of him was Orion, the son of Derick—one of the rich spoiled playboys on town. His father wealth has so much blinded him that he used and dumped girls when ever he wants, like changing clothes.

"Hey, why are you still standing here, are you waiting for someone?” Orion questioned eyeing Damien from head to toe.

“And why are you staring at us? Haven't you ever seen couples kissing before, huh?” he raised a brow, relaxing his hands at the side of the door, then shifted his gaze to Sophia. “Or, Sophia, do you know this guy anywhere?"

Sophia shook her head dismissively. "No, I don't know him, and I have never seen him, he's just a delivery guy, as we can all see."

“what?” Damien voice cut up on his chest.

“You are my girlfriend, why are you denying me?”

“your girlfriend?” Sophia scoffed. “stop accusing me you disgusting fool, I can’t settle for a low life like you, can’t you see you stinks with poverty.”

"Sophia, what have I done to deserve this from you? I have worked extra hours just to make sure I provide anything you have ever asked for, and yet you decide to cheat? What exactly do you ever—"

"Hey, just shut the hell up!" Sophia raised her hands and cut the words short from Damien's mouth.

"Please, hunny, this delivery guy is burdening our fun, and besides, you know we gonna have a rough night tonight. So please, can you just discharge him so he will get his stinky self out of here?"

Orion shifted his gaze to Damien.

“hey... you can’t just come here accusing my girl that she’s your girlfriend, you have to learn some manners or else I will make sure I get you fired from this very job of yours.”

Damien was not just called stinky by Sophia, but was also denied from ever knowing him. She didn't even hide the fact that she and Orion were about to have sex; she spilled it right in front of Damien. The pain ached in his chest as he felt consumed by fury.

Orion went inside, then brought some dollars and tossed them onto Damien's body. "Thanks for the delivery; you can keep the change."

Damien stared at the money as it rolled down from his chest to the floor, and just then, the door was shut closed right before his eyes.

Damien clenched his fists; tears began streaming down his cheeks as he felt so betrayed by the only woman he loved. He had been with Sophia throughout college, and after college, he was able to get a delivery job from a company just to satisfy her needs, making sure he made her happy at all times. And After experiencing what happened today, he felt like his whole world had ended.

"Just because I have no money, you decide to cheat on me with someone rich? All the good times we spent, the memories, the dreams on how to live the rest of our life’s together, was all clear to me now that’s just a false journey full of lies and deceit by you. I hate you, Sophia, and I will never forget what you have done to me," Damien muttered under his breath.

The pain and rage evident all around Damien, he felt like punching the ground, but all that he could do was accept the reality: without money, nothing feels valuable, nothing feels real. If he could at least feel the glimpse of riches, all that was happening to him at the moment wouldn't have happened.

With the pain and sting of betrayal inside Damien, he walked down from the doorsteps and got onto his delivery bike, then rode away.

As he sped down the highway, his mind kept replaying the scene over and over again, the betrayal, the denial, the sting of humiliation. His vision blurred with tears. He squeezed his eyes shut and cried out in anguish. And at this same moment, his bike was speeding very fast, and before he knew it—

Crash!

The world flipped upside down, Damien felt his body crashing hard on the ground and rolling on the tiled road. he could feel himself losing consciousness already, his body gradually failing.

A pool of blood streamed down from his head to his eyes, his vision gradually fading into darkness.

But just then…

A mechanical voice rang through Damien's mind, and before him was a blue translucent screen with written text floating mid-air.

And after hearing the mechanical voice, Damien's view snapped dark.
