Chapter 001

Karion’s POV:

“We’re over, Karion.”

One sentence, three words, yet they hit me square in the chest like a brick thrown at full force.

Over? A relationship of five years, over just like that?

For a second, everything went quiet.

Not silence, more like my ears had stopped working properly.

My lips parted, or at least, I felt them part, but no sound came out.

Instead, my eyes stayed glued to the scene in front of me, the direct answer to why my relationship was coming to an end.

The scattered underwear on the floor.

Maddie’s bra, the one I bought for her on her birthday. Her panties tossed carelessly beside the bed.

And then, another man’s clothes. A shirt I recognized very well. A watch I had seen on his wrist many times.

Jubril, my best friend since we were kids, sat naked on our bed, arms wrapped around my Fiancee.

My chest tightened, my lungs refusing to cooperate as though someone had wrapped an invisible rope around them and pulled hard. I opened my mouth once again, this time to breathe, but the air felt thick, heavy, like it didn’t want to enter me.

I blinked once, a feeble at to get rid of the scene before me. It didn’t work.

They were still there, champagne glasses in their hands and not a trace of shame on their faces.

Not even the decency to scramble or pretend I wasn’t standing there watching my life crumble apart.

My knees trembled as I took another step into the room, my fingers tightening painfully around the small box in my hand.

“No… you can’t do this to me, Maddie,” my voice came out broken, weak, nothing like the man I thought I was. “I’ve invested too much time, too much effort into this relationship.”

My legs felt like they could give out any second, but I forced myself to stay standing.

Maddie scoffed, rolling her eyes as if I was the inconvenience here.

“You held me down in a relationship filled with suffering and poverty, thinking it was love,” she said coldly. “What did you expect? That you’d walk in here with that cheap ring of yours and ask me to be your wife?”

Her words sliced deep into my heart, each one more painful

“The only reason I agreed to be your girlfriend was because I thought you had a future,” she continued. “A future that was going to change mine. But I was dearly wrong.”

My heart clenched violently.

I slowly looked down at the engagement ring in my hand.

The ring I had bought barely an hour ago.

The last money in my account gone. Money I could have used for food, transport, anything, but I chose her. I chose tonight. I chose us.

And now it felt like I was holding the biggest joke of my life.

“There’s still a way we can fix this,” I said desperately, stepping closer, my pride completely forgotten. “I can take more part-time jobs. I can sell some of my house items. I can—”

She laughed.

Not a nervous laugh. Not an awkward one.

A cruel, mocking laugh.

“Even if you sold every single property to your name, it still wouldn’t get me a Birkin bag,” she said. “But my baby over here?” She leaned closer to Jubril, resting her head against his shoulder. “He got me one while coming. That’s how a real man treats his woman.”

My gaze followed hers to the table.

The orange Hermes carton sat there quietly, like a silent witness to my humiliation.

My throat tightened.

“I might not have gotten you a Birkin bag,” I said, my voice trembling, “but I paid for your entire college fees. I sacrificed getting myself a car so I could buy one for you, just so it’d be easier for you to move around in school. I did everything I could to make you happy.”

She didn’t flinch.

She didn’t hesitate.

“From the first day you got me that car, it’s been nothing but stress,” Maddie snapped. “One day it’s the engine, the next day it’s the AC. Nothing ever works fine because that thing isn’t even worth four thousand dollars.”

She stood up from the bed, completely naked, not caring that I could see her, and picked up a set of car keys.

“If you want to see a real car,” she said, waving the keys in my face, “there’s a three-hundred-thousand-dollar car parked outside. I’m sure you saw it on your way in.”

My hands shook violently.

“Please,” I whispered, my voice cracking as tears burned my eyes. “I’m begging you, babe. I can overlook this cheating. Please… I can’t survive without you. Don’t leave me.”

The room felt smaller. Tighter. Like the walls were closing in on me.

That was when he finally spoke.

“I decided not to say anything at first,” the voice came, calm, amused. “I wanted her to explain things properly to you. But it looks like you’re just too naïve—too stupid—to see the truth.”

I turned slowly.

Jubril.

The man I once called my brother.

The man I trusted more than anyone else.

He leaned back casually, sipping his champagne, eyes filled with mockery.

“What is wrong with you, honestly?” he continued. “Have you no self-respect at all?”

“Please, I’m begging you, babe,” he repeated in a mocking tone, mimicking my voice perfectly.

Maddie burst out laughing.

My heart shattered.

“Don’t you have any dignity left?” Jubril added. “She said you’re too poor for her. So go find someone on your level.”

Tears fell freely down my face now.

I didn’t bother wiping them.

Jubril and I grew up together. Shared food. Shared dreams. Slept on the same floors when we had nothing. I helped him secure the contract that changed his life just last month. I stood by him when no one else did.

And this was how he repaid me.

By sleeping with my fiancée.

The engagement ring box slipped from my fingers and hit the floor with a soft clink.

Something snapped inside me.

The pain, the humiliation, the betrayal—it all twisted into something dark and uncontrollable. My vision blurred, my body moving before my mind could stop it.

I stormed toward the bed.

I grabbed Jubril by the neck and yanked him up.

“You were my brother!” I roared, punching him with everything I had. “How could you do this to me?!”

The impact felt good.

Before I could land another hit, he reacted.

Without a word, he grabbed the champagne glass beside the bed and flung its contents straight into my eyes.

I screamed, stumbling back as my vision went white.

Then—

The sound of glass shattering filled the room.

Chapter 15 Karion's POV [Quest objective complete] KROESUS System notification: Congratulations, host Karion Kross. Task one has been completed. You have officially leveled up to Level 2. Your reward has been added to your current balance. I read the notification off the digital screen floating in my vision, my eyes scrolling down almost instinctively to check my balance, and there it was, sitting plainly in front of me: 515,603,447,300.00 dollars. My eyebrow raised, genuinely caught off guard for a second. KROESUS had added over 10 billion dollars to my previous balance, just because I completed the task I was given? That wasn't remotely what I was expecting. Honestly, I hadn't expected any reward at all. I only completed the task because the consequences of failing sounded fatal enough that I wasn't willing to test them, and since I was cutting it close to the timer, the only realistic way to spend that much money in that little time was to buy something expensive. And at t

Chapter 14Jubril’s POVWater rushed down my head to my toe as I stayed silent in the shower for minutes, just staring down at the floor, lost in my own thoughts, hoping the hot shower might take away this unwanted worry am suddenly feeling, the kind of worry that had no business sitting on my shoulders in the first place. Those fucking idiots. I gave them one simple job, yet they still couldn’t get that done, I don’t even know why I haven’t fired them yet, because tell me how you fuck up something as simple as killing someone, it’s not that hard, just get the fucking job done and disappear, that was the whole point of paying people who were supposed to know what they were doing.I took in a deeper breath, trying to calm myself down, I shouldn’t be getting this worked up over a useless nobody, someone who used to matter to me but had long since become irrelevant. The only thing that’s getting me worried is the fact that he knows I tried to kill him, what if he went to the police and

Chapter 013Karion's POVThe blood in my mouth had already gathered up enough, so I collected it and spat it onto the floor, watching the manager's expression twist even further into disgust, his lips curling like he'd just watched something crawl out from under a rock. I did that on purpose, just to aggravate him a little more, to remind him that whatever composure he thought he'd stripped from me was still very much intact."That's what happens when trash like you tries to step out of line," jubril said, his voice carrying just enough volume to make sure the people still lingering around us heard it clearly, like he wanted an audience for this. The smirk on my face slowly faded. Alright, I was done taking all this from him. Even if I wasn't fully recovered, I could still push myself a little, at least enough to give him a black eye he'd have to explain to people for weeks, something to remind him this wasn't as one sided as he thought. The firm grip the guards had on me had loosened

Chapter 012Karion’s POV“Hold on, I’d like a word with him,” jubril’s voice said, stopping the guards before they began dragging me out, the sudden authority in his tone enough to make even the manager freeze mid step.“Sir, are you sure? I mean he’s not worth you wasting your time and energy on, he’s a nobody,” the manager said quickly, his eyes darting between me and jubril like he was trying to gauge whether he should still be siding against me.Jubril completely ignored the manager and took a step forward, his presence somehow filling up more of the room than it had a right to.“Why the hostile behavior kay?” Jubril said, calling me by my nickname like we were suddenly friends again “When I first saw you from over there, I thought I might have been seeing double, but I’ve known you too long not to recognize how your hair is, and that dragon tattoo at the back of your neck sealed the nail in the coffin. And when I came to holla at you, you grab me by my suit? Do you realize how ex

Chapter 11Karion's POVFuck.Out of every possible Louis Vuitton store they could have shown up in, it just had to be this particular one at this particular time.I should have probably just listened to the manager when he told me to leave. If I had, I wouldn't be standing here about to run into them again. It's not even like I can turn my back and blend in with the other customers, what am wearing makes me stand out the most in the entire store, so it was only a matter of time before they spotted me anyway. They both walked in feeling proud, feeling like the whole world existed just to make way for them, their steps slow and unhurried like the ground itself owed them something. Watching jubril carry himself like that made me sick to my guts, because the man he's become right now, the rich, almighty man he's parading around as, only exists because of me.A small realization crept up on me then, after he told his guys to kill me, I don't think he actually knew that I survived. Chapter 010Karion’s POV“Well, it’s only natural for someone like you to think something like that when am dressed like this” once again, I gestured towards my gown “but you really shouldn’t judge someone you know nothing about just by their looks you know” I added hoping he would probably listen, but let’s me be honest with myself, from the way he has been talking, guys like him doesn’t even give people like me a chance. He looked at me the way someone would look at a stain on an expensive rug, something that shouldn’t be there in the first place.“Oh, so your preaching now?” He said while letting out a small scoff “I shouldn’t judge people by looks alone huh? Should I tell you how stupid that saying of yours is? If I were to call someone here to evaluate our bank accounts just by looks, and the person decided to take your stupid saying and pick you as the more wealthy man between the both of us and me as the less wealthy, even with how your looking and how am looking, do you se
