Chapter Five

As Liam got up to approach the lady who was gazing at him from afar, Mr. Wilson appeared. “Why are you here all by yourself? This is a party of the rich; go and mingle, and make the Wilson family name proud. Just be useful already,” Mr. Wilson urged.

Liam sighed, and stood up, not knowing what to do or

how to start.

While he tried to chat, people were just pretending. They didn't care about him; his presence seemed like a joke at this elegant wedding. A bunch of guests talked quietly, glancing at Liam. "That's the Wilson kid, right? How did he end up here?" they chuckled.

Liam, trying not to show his hurt feelings, smiled wearily. Laughter from the group made it clear he wasn't welcome.

More ridicule followed, treating him like a punchline. The Wilsons, who were desperate to revive their fading status, unknowingly exposed Liam to everyone's mockery. The Thompsons, clearly unconcerned, enjoyed their party. Liam, caught in their high expectations, smiled on the outside but was hurt on the inside.

The whispers were too much, though not aimed at him directly, made it clear that he was seen as an unworthy person to have married Olivia of the Thompson family.

Liam awkwardly moved towards the lady who had been watching him. As he approached, she stood up, looking at Liam with pity.

"Hello," Liam greeted with a forced smile, trying to ignore the disapproving glares from the high-class guests. "I'm Liam, and you are?"

The woman smiled warmly, "I'm Sarah. Couldn't help but notice you seem out of place here."

Liam chuckled nervously, "Yeah, you could say that. It's not exactly my usual scene."

Sarah motioned to an empty seat, "Well, make yourself comfortable. This party might be overwhelming, but not everyone here is as judgmental as they seem."

Liam appreciated Sarah's kindness, feeling a bit more at ease in her presence. Meanwhile, Mr. Wilson observed from a distance, hoping that Liam was talking to a high-profile person and making the Wilson family proud.

As Liam continued to have a conversation with Sarah, they talked about everything and shared a few laughs. She seemed genuinely interested in getting to know him, she wasn't concerned about Liam's status and where he was coming from.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Wilson, observing the interaction from afar, was displeased. She approached them with a stern expression, "Liam, what are you doing? This is not the time for idle chit-chat. Go and impress the important guests. We need them to know that Olivia is the new daughter-in-law of the Wilson family."

Liam hesitated, he knew that Olivia didn't want to be associated with anything that concerned the Wilson family. Moreover, he found peace talking with Sarah.

Mrs. Wilson insisted, "Remember, you're representing our family, don't embarrass us. Act accordingly."

Feeling obligated, Liam excused himself from Sarah, apologizing for the interruption, and reluctantly joined the crowd again. However, tensions rose. Mrs. Wilson anxiously monitored Liam, afraid that he might make mistakes that might jeopardize their family name further.

Olivia, on the other hand, continued to treat Liam with disdain, publicly dismissing him and embarrassing him in front of the esteemed guests. The rich and influential attendees exchanged glances, amused by the Thompson family agreeing to such an insult as a son-in-law and making the Wilson family try to use them and this shameful marriage to build their family name.

As the night wore on, Liam found himself in the midst of the Thompson family associates. They questioned him about his background, his family, and how he managed to become Olivia's husband. Liam, feeling judged, struggled through awkward reactions,

Aiding to the speculation that the Wilson family had planned this union for their own gains.

Mr. Wilson, who was eager to impress, Presented a luxury collection of rare antiques to the Thompson family trying to get people to notice them.

However, The Thompson family was unsatisfied. Mr. Thompson politely declined the gifts. Advising them to mingle with people in their class and not interrupt them again.

Their action irritated Olivia; she publicly announced, "I think it's time for my husband and his family to leave. They're clearly not accustomed to such sophisticated events. We appreciate their contribution, but I don't want them embarrassing us any further."

Liam, caught off guard and humiliated, had no choice but to leave the party prematurely, leaving behind whispers.

Liam was not the only one embarrassed and humiliated by what Olivia had said. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson placed the blame on him for their abrupt departure from the Thompson family's event. Leaving in such a disgraceful manner was bad for their family. They wanted people to see them and maybe… Just maybe strike a business deal.

Outside, Nora approached Liam with a scowl, letting out her frustration. "You are such an embarrassment. I thought being the son-in-law of the Thompson family would make you a better and more reasonable person, but hell no! Here you are being the fool that you are. I'm so ashamed of you."

Liam attempted to defend himself, saying, "I... I didn't do anything, Miss Nora. I respected myself at this wedding, I obeyed every instruction given to me. Miss Nora, you're mistaken."

Nora, however, wasn't convinced and threatened him with punishment before storming off.

Miss Nora flared up. "Am I mistaken? Are you indirectly calling me a liar? Liam, how dare you! You’ll be punished for this." With that, she issued a threat and left.

Shortly after Nora left, Liam received a message from Mrs. Claudia Wilson, instructing him to come to the parking lot immediately.

As he reached the parking lot, Mrs. Wilson didn't hold back, delivering a resounding slap to Liam's cheek, accusing him of insulting her daughter.“How dare you insult my daughter, do you want to die?”.

Liam held his cheek, “I didn't insult her...”. Mr Wilson interjected, threatening to severely punish Liam for daring to challenge his daughter's honesty. “You dare call my daughter a liar in my present? You’ve grown some balls and I will cut them off”.

They turned around and entered their car. Liam followed, he didn't have money to book a ride nor did he know where to go, as a married man, he was supposed to be with his wife, but then his wife asked him to leave but to where?

Nora yelled at him, “Where do you think you are going? Does this car look like what you can afford? Get lost! She banged the door, and they drove off leaving Liam stranded.

Feeling abandoned, Liam stood in silence and helpless, there was no one to help him, everywhere was silent, and the only sound he heard was the light music from the wedding Hall.

Unknown to Liam, Sarah, the woman Liam had connected with earlier, observed the drama from the far end of the parking lot.

While Liam was contemplating his next move, Suddenly, a car pulled up, and to his surprise, it was Sarah who offered him a way out.

"Get in," she said.
