Chapter Six

In Sarah’s car, Liam got emotional and started saying, “I don't know why my family hates me. I’ve done everything to please them,”

Sarah looked at Liam and patted him on the back. “It's alright, sometimes family can be annoying. I'm sure they will come around, especially your mother. A mother's love is quite strong,” Sarah said.

Liam exclaimed, “My mother? She doesn't love me. I'm not her biological son. I wish I knew my parents.”

Sarah glanced at Liam suspiciously, “They're not your parents?”

Liam nodded.

“That explains the ill-treatment. Do you know what happened to your parents? Do you know them?” Sarah asked.

Liam looked in surprise, “Do you know my parents? Please, what happened to them?” Liam begged.

Sarah looked at Liam like a crazy person, then she quickly understood that Liam had misunderstood her statement. “Oh! No. You didn't understand my question. I was only asking if you know them.” Sarah explained.

“Okay, No. I don't know who they are and where I came from. The Wilson family adopted me. I'm grateful that they took me out of the orphanage. yet, they treat me worse than when I was in custody. I wish they could see my efforts and treat me well.” Liam brooded.

“It's okay, you will be alright. I promise you. Just continue to be a good man and a husband.” Sarah assured him.

“Where do you want me to stop you?” Sarah asked, changing the topic.

Liam hesitated. “Mrs Sarah, I don't know, I'm confused.” Liam lamented.

Sarah let out a sigh. “I'll stop you in a nearby hotel, here take the keys to room 13.” Sarah gave Liam the room keys. “My daughter is the manager there. When you get there, tell her I sent you. Sarah Anderson.”

“Thank you, Sarah, you’ve really saved me tonight.”

Afterward, they drove in silence. Sarah stopped by a small hotel, “De Gambit Hotel.”

“This is the hotel,” Sarah said, looking at Liam while he gazed at the hotel opposite him.

“Thank you, Sarah, this means a lot to me, and I hope I’ll repay you someday.” Liam pouted.

“That's okay, now go, go and get some rest, you’ve had a long day,” Sarah said.

Liam opened the car door, said goodbye to Sarah, and she drove away. Liam stood there, watching Sarah drive out of sight.

He sighed, turned, and walked into De Gambit Hotel, to the reception. Inside, he met a lady at the counter.

At the reception, "Hello sir, I'm Lucy. Welcome to The Gambit Hotel. How can I assist you?" she said.

Liam was skeptical, not wanting more embarrassment. "I... I need to see the manager," Liam stammered.

Lucy, eyeing him from head to toe with a smug face, asked, “Do you have any appointment with her? Or are you one of those stalkers? Please leave if you don’t want to book a room.”

Liam responded, “No, I'm not stalking, please let me see her. I need to see her, it's urgent.”

Growing irritated, Lucy said, “Please, you can't see her without an appointment, and if you don't have anything else to say, please….”

“Please Mr. Stop causing nuisance here, if you….” Before Lucy could finish her statement, a voice cut through her words. It was the manager, Mercy.

“Show some respect, Lucy. He's my guest,” the manager scolded Lucy before turning to Liam with a smile. “You must be Liam. Mom told me that you're here. Please follow me.”

Liam nodded and followed Mercy. As they walked, she introduced herself, “My name is Mercy, and I'm the manager of this hotel. This place has been around for years, but it still looks good, right?”

Liam smiled, finding a brief laugh in his predicament. “Yeah, A typical example of small but mighty.”

Once they reached the stairs to the rooms, Mercy continued, “So, tell me, why did you choose to come this late? Don't tell me you were stranded partying and getting drunk. You know, most men do it often.”

Liam grinned, “I wish I had enjoyed myself. Let's say I am stranded on my wedding night.”

Mercy's eyes widened as she stopped. “You just got married? Where’s your wife? And why didn't you go home? Are you alright? Or did she catch you cheating, And left you? That's actually the trending language.”

Liam responded, “That's too many questions, but trust me, I didn't cheat but you’ll get to hear all about it soon. I just want to hit the bed immediately.”

Mercy, with a slight chuckle, said, “Alright. Here’s your room. If you need anything, just let us know. Goodnight, Liam.”

“Thank you, Goodnight.” Liam replied and entered the room, “

When Liam's body finally sank into the bed, instead of slipping into sleep, he found himself snarled in thoughts about the sufferings he had been enduring.

Wishing that someone could show him love and care for him once, his life was falling apart, and he couldn't concentrate on work. His boss had warned him about his lack of focus and went as far as threatening him.

Some days, Liam would go without food. Now, he had left the place where they faked love for him in the midst of guests, to a place where no one cared.

Olivia hated him and treated him like trash. "How will he cope? What will he do? What would be his fate in the Thompson family?" Liam thought, realizing he'd be lucky to even get a meal.

The following day, Liam woke up to a sudden bang on the door. Groggily, he opened the door to find Lucy, the girl from the counter the previous night.

"Some people are downstairs waiting for you," she said disrespectfully.

Panicking, Liam asked, "Who are they?"

Lucy, already on her way out, replied casually, "When you get down, you will know." And with that, she walked away.
