Chapter Two

Olivia inquired about the boy who presented the gift from the Wilson family, “Who was that boy who presented the gift from the Wilson family?”

Her father explained that he was Liam, “He is Liam, the adopted son of the Wilson family." Despite being bold, he seemed lowly, he believed he would be a suitable match. “He will be a good fit. We don't want someone greedy to be your husband. Meanwhile, the Wilson family would be privileged to accept this offer. Our family name will help boost their faded family’s name and also in the business world”.

Olivia thought about it and agreed with her father “Yes, Daddy, Liam will make a humble husband”. Olivia laughed mischievously.

“When do we visit the Wilson family? We have to get this marriage done as fast as possible, the contract will be terminated after ten days if I don't meet up with their rules.

Miss Olivia had secured a billion-dollar contract with a top European company, This contract sets the Thompson family in the top ten in the business market. But then, the contract comes with a condition. Miss Olivia would be married for the contract to be fully awarded to her and time was running out, They had to act fast.

They planned to visit the Wilson family soon to discuss the marriage contract.

“We will visit tomorrow. Make a call, tell the Wilson family that we want to have a conversation with them”. Mr Robert said.

“That's good Daddy, I will do as you say”. Miss Olivia said.

The party concluded around midnight. Guests started going, and the music started to slow down.

Liam, disappointed, thought he was going to make new friends, take pictures with the celebrities, and, unable to impress Miss Olivia, called the driver. But none of it was his fault no one was willing to associate with him.

He knew it was going to get messy when he got home. His father will deal with him for failing on a simple task. The worst part was that he hadn’t any chance with Miss Olivia. She was barely present.

He didn’t want to go, but he must go. Liam called the driver. As soon as he approached Liam, he asked him “Did you do what Master Martin had asked you to do?”. His face looked serious.

Liam ran his hands on his head. Reluctantly, he replied, “No, Miss Olivia was busy with the guest tonight”.

However, the driver, knowing that Liam had failed, refused to drive him home.“You’re dead meat. I can’t drive you back home, find your way”. The driver said and stormed out of the hall.

While all these were going on, Mr Robert was seated in the VIP area observing Liam. With a mysterious grin plastered on his lips, he muttered “My son-in-law”.

Liam wondered for a while before leaving the party Hall. It was time for him to go home. He was used to getting beaten anyway.

He left the party and began trekking home, he removed his coat, so he could get good air. Luckily, a car stopped, and the driver winded down his window and lowered his head offering Liam a ride.

“Hello, Mister, where are you going by this time of the night on foot? It's not safe around here. Can I give you a ride?” the stranger offered.

Leaning forward, Liam said, “It's okay Sir, I’ll be fine. Don't worry about me, thank you”. Smiling gently.

“If you say so, don't say I didn't warn you”. The driver said, starting his engine. As he was about to zoom off Liam stopped him “All alright, I could use a ride, thank you”.

The stranger opened the door for him and Liam entered. “Thank you”. He said again as he entered the car.

Strangely, the stranger driving, who was obviously on a mission, ignored Liam's attempts at conversation.

Upon reaching the Wilson building, “Here," Liam pointed at the house and the stranger stopped. Liam got down from the car and thanked the driver, who abruptly sped away, leaving Liam shocked.

“How rude!" Liam exclaimed. Then he walked inside.

When he got inside, the Wilson family members were all sitting in the living room waiting for him “Liam, why are you coming home by this time of the night? How useless can you be?”. Mrs Wilson said.

Before Liam could answer, he felt a splint of pain on his cheek. It was a hard slap. “How dare you embarrass our family name? Is there anything you can do right?”. Mr Wilson was not having it, he was angry.

He wanted to take advantage of the party to elevate his family status which was why he went too far to buy the most expensive Chinese tea as a gift to please the Thompson family. “You’re useless and good for nothing”. Mr Wilson said.

While Liam held his cheek in pain, Mr. Wilson ordered his driver to deal with Liam.

“No! Master Martin, I can explain. Miss Olivia didn't pay attention to me, she was busy with the other guests. Please spare me it wasn't my fault”. Liam cried as he was being dragged away.

When they got to the empty room in the house, they stripped him naked, tied his hands to a pole, and began to flog him. Liam was flogged, blood gushed out of his body, and he was mercilessly beaten until he fell unconscious.

He didn’t know what had happened until the next day when he felt something cold on his body, he hastily opened his eyes and discovered it was cold water. They had emptied a bucket of water on him. But then, he was no longer tied but was on the bare floor. His body was filled with bruises, and it hurt him badly.

Liam tried to stand up, but his body couldn't let him. The pain he was feeling was too much to move his body.

"Get up, you fool!" Mr Wilson yelped. "The Thompson family will be here soon. Go and freshen up, find a way, and cover those bruises. I don't want them to see me as a bad father. Now go!"

Liam tried again to get up, but he couldn't, so Mr Wilson gestured for the driver to drag him out to his room.

While Liam was dragged out, he screamed out of pain until he got to his room.

“Now, go and have your bath. The Thompson family is coming, you don't want to keep them waiting”.
