Zoriel was gasping for air when he woke up.

He jolted upright in panic, but immediately groaned and fell back as a sharp pain pierced his head.

It felt like his skull was being split in two.

That same high-pitched ringing filled his ears again—just like the moment before he lost consciousness.

“Zoriel?”

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

Once he managed to steady his breathing, he slowly opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was Lily, fluttering around in front of him.

“Zoriel! You’re awake!” she said excitedly.

Zoriel frowned.

The last thing he remembered was talking to the Kapre.

“Where am I?” he asked. “Where’s the Kapre? Where are Jessa and Alfred?!”

He tried to sit up again but his head still felt too heavy.

“Don’t get up yet, Zoriel. You’re still weak.”

Zoriel turned to his side when he heard another familiar voice.

His eyes widened when he saw the woman sitting beside him.

It was Zenaida. His sister.

“Zen? You’re here!” he said, disbelief in his voice.

He was maybe ten years old the last time he saw his older sister.

She was only fifteen then, but she chose to leave them—abandoning both him and their father.

After that, he never heard from her again.

He wouldn’t have even recognized her if it weren’t for the striking resemblance they still shared.

Zenaida smirked.

“What? Surprised to see your sister?”

Zoriel forced himself upright.

“What happened to you? Where have you been? Why didn’t you contact me? Didn’t you know when Dad died? Why didn’t you show up?” he asked, one question after another.

Zenaida raised both her hands in defense.

“Whoa! Hold up! That’s a lot of questions,” she said. “I understand your confusion and frustration. But right now, what’s more important is for you to answer me—why did I find you in front of my house?”

Zoriel frowned.

He looked around and realized he was indeed in an unfamiliar place.

It was a small room. Judging by the walls, it looked like he was in a bamboo house.

A nipa hut.

The design was simple, but the space felt clean and welcoming.

“I… don’t know.”

He glanced at Lily, who was still flying around.

He signaled to her, his expression full of questions.

“Before you get too shocked, yes. I can see that little thing flying in front of you,” Zenaida said casually.

Zoriel turned back to his sister.

“You can see her?” he asked, stunned.

Zenaida nodded. “Yes. And I know her name. She’s Lily.”

Zoriel looked at Lily in confusion.

“Ahm, yes, Zoriel,” Lily said. “Actually, she’s the one I came to find. She was the one who told me where you were. And I already knew you needed help… especially with the problems you’re having with your wife.”

Zoriel didn’t know how to feel about what he just heard.

“W-What? You mean… Zenaida was the reason you came to me?” he asked Lily.

She nodded.

“Yes. As soon as I arrived in the mortal world, Zenaida was the first person I saw. She’s an Albularyo, Zoriel. She’s the one I mentioned who could help train you to become a Santhigar.”

Zoriel was completely lost.

His sister—who never believed their grandfather’s stories—was now a practicing Albularyo.

“How?”

Zenaida smiled and stood up from her seat.

“It’s a long story. But I think you should eat first—then you can tell me what’s been happening to you. I’ll leave you here for now.”

Before Zoriel could say another word, Zenaida was already walking out of the room.

He still couldn’t fully process everything he had just learned.

His sister… was an Albularyo.

And more than that, she could see Lily.

That, at least, gave him a strange sense of relief—proof that he wasn’t crazy.

That someone else could actually see her, too.

But first things first—he needed to figure out how he ended up here.

“Lily. How did I end up here?” he asked his tiny friend.

Lily fluttered over and landed gently on his leg.

“I don’t know either, Zoriel. When Zenaida and I stepped out, we just found you lying in her yard. We were supposed to meet up with you after we talked. What happened? I thought you were going to meet Jessa? How did you end up here?”

Zoriel buried his face in his hands and shook his head.

He didn’t know how to answer her either.

He was just as confused as she was.

But with everything that had happened—and the flood of new revelations hitting him all at once—he knew one thing for sure:

He had no choice but to face them.

He walked up to her.“Thank you so much for your help, Ms. Crystal. If it weren’t for you, I don’t think I’d have this back.”Crystal gave him a small smile. “What I’ve done is still not enough to repay the help you gave me, Mr. Del Cruz. Don’t worry—I’ll help you however I can.”Zoriel scratched his head, a little embarrassed.“Ma’am Crystal… You really don’t have to. I didn’t do that much for you.”Crystal shook her head. “You helped me more than you realize. If it weren’t for you, I might still be haunted by… whatever that creature was.” She shook her head lightly. “I never expected any of it to be real.”Zoriel went quiet. He couldn’t deny it—he still found it hard to believe those beings existed.“It hasn’t returned, has it, Ma’am?”“No. And stop calling me Ma’am. Just Crystal,” she said firmly.Zoriel hesitated. “Th

Miss, easy with that blade!”Zoriel snapped back to the moment. He turned to his sister. “Zen, put it down.”Zenaida reluctantly lowered her weapon but narrowed her eyes. “And who are they supposed to be?”Zoriel glanced toward Crystal, who stood silent, her eyes fixed on him. Standing beside her was Mr. Thompson, his expression stern and unreadable.“They’re my friends,” Zoriel said simply.Lily squealed, flapping her tiny wings. “It’s her! She’s the one who was possessed by the kapre!”She flew over to Crystal’s side, hovering close to examine her face. “She’s so beautiful… like a Diwata!”Zenaida arched an eyebrow. Still unsure, but sensing something different, she slowly sheathed her blade.“You! Who the hell are you, and what are you doing here?!” Alfred barked at Crystal and Michael, his eyes sharp and threatening. Jessa, on the other

"Why do we even have to come here? We should be heading to the province already!" Lily snapped, her tiny wings flapping in frustration."We can’t leave without getting my jeep back," Zoriel explained calmly."But you’ll have to face your loudmouth ex-wife again!" she protested, clearly furious.Zoriel could only sigh. Her rage was written all over her tiny face."I still need that jeep if we want to make it to the province," he said flatly.Zenaida shook her head. "You're right. We do need transportation. But what if she tries to have you arrested again?"Zoriel paused. She had a point. But Mr. Thompson had assured him that Jessa couldn’t use the same so-called evidence to get him locked up again. Plus, he had his own proof now—something that could turn things around."That won’t happen, Zen. Trust me."He finally entered the municipal hall, the two women trailing close behind. With his documents in hand, he went straight to the mayor’s office.Even before reaching the door, he could

“Urgh! That bitch!” Jessa spat out angrily as she stormed into Alfred’s hospital room, throwing her bag down onto the couch.Alfred’s brows instantly furrowed as he looked at her.“What’s wrong? Didn’t you meet with the real estate agent?” he asked.Jessa rolled her eyes. “How was I supposed to, when Zoriel was there? Seriously, is there nothing you can do about him? I thought the Santiagos were the most powerful family in Eastwood?”Alfred’s ears practically rang at her last sentence. “What did you just say?” he asked coldly, staring directly at her.Jessa met his gaze with a glare of her own, but her posture quickly changed when she saw how serious his expression had turned. It was like reality suddenly slapped her across the face.“W-What I meant was… maybe we should speed up getting Zoriel back in jail, Love,” she said in a gentler, almost sweet tone, forcing a smile on her lips. “Because… what if he tries to get close to me again? • Chapter 18: The Calling

“Let go of my brother!”Everyone’s heads snapped toward the door when a woman’s voice rang out.Zoriel lit up the moment he saw his sister—and Lily—storming into the house. Lily flew straight toward him, while Zenaida stepped in with a bolo pointed at the barangay officers holding Zoriel. Just like the last time he saw her, she wore a long skirt and a plain t-shirt, a backpack slung on her back, and a small sling bag on her side. A sheath for her bolo was tied around her waist. Her wrists were stacked with handmade bracelets, and just like him, she wore a necklace, though hers was smaller and etched with an eye inside a triangle.“Let him go unless you want your hands chopped off!” Zenaida threatened.“Zoriel! What is going on here?” Lily asked as she landed beside him. “Is this your wife again?”Zoriel exhaled hard. He stood straight when the officers finally let go of him.“Zenaida.”“Who are these people, Zoriel? And why are they messing with you?” Zenaida asked, not lowering her w
