“So this is the trash grandfather had asked you to marry?!”

BANG!

The door of the courthouse instantly flew open almost falling off its hinges as it slammed against the wall. A young man and several men of the same age bracket walked in.

He advanced towards the couple standing in front of the registrar’s table about to get their marriage certificate stamped.

“Elias, what are you doing here?” The lady asked, raising a brow, staring at the men behind him suspiciously.

Elias gave a light shrug.

“I was wondering why my cousin wouldn’t invite us for her own wedding,” he shifted his gaze to the ordinary looking man beside her, disgust clearly written on his face. “Turns out she just wanted to hide the fact that she was getting married to a loser!”

Elias turned towards his friends, who were almost doubling over with laughter.

“Can you guys imagine this? Odessa Chen, the supposed most beautiful woman in the whole of Kairen City has settled for a lunatic from the Wei family just to satisfy our grandpa who is probably rotting in the grave by now. Such piety.”

Rounds of laughter echoed through the room. Odessa’s jaw clenched as embarrassment and rage washed over her.

“Elias, leave. You’re causing a scene and don’t talk about grandpa with such a disrespectful tone!”

“I’m causing a scene?” Elias gave a dramatic gasp. “But I’m not the one who is about to get catfished by marrying someone you don’t know.”

Odessa’s brows furrowed deeply. “What do you mean?”

“Grandpa told you to get married to the Wei’s heir, but looking at this man standing here like a mute idiot, does he even look like the son of the Wei’s family?!” Elias responded, gloating.

Odessa glanced at the man before her, different questions running through her mind. The members of the Wei family had been murdered overnight eighteen years ago, their son being the only one to survive the ordeal was said to have been affected by that incident becoming mentally impaired and the Zhao family had taken him in.

The Zhao family was one of the six most important families in the city but none of them were in attendance at this wedding. This man had appeared alone claiming to be Riven Wei, the long lost son of the Wei family and he was dressed in simple clothes not even worthy enough to be called a wedding attire.

“Miss Chen, why would you decide to get married to a nobody who can’t even speak up for you or himself?” One of Elias’s friends, Valentin Gao said with a frown. “We should confirm whether or not he is indeed the Wei’s heir! We can’t continue to let Miss Chen be decieved by a pauper!”

“Yes! We have to check!”

“Valentin is right. Once we do, we will send this fraud over to the police!”

Riven stared at the little crowd with a bored expression on his face.

Valentin let out a small smirk seeing that everyone was in support of him. If he could successfully prove this man was a fraud then maybe Odessa will finally agree to his advances and marry him right here and now since she was so much in a hurry to get married and claim position as the manager in Chen group.

“I have heard that the Wei’s heir has a crescent moon birthmark at the back of his neck. If we don’t find the mark on this man’s neck then we will hand him over to the police for fraud and impersonation and have the Zhao family deal with him as well!”

Elias immediately nodded. “Yes, let’s check for the mark. I can’t believe my cousin will be this gullible, hehe.”

Odessa pursed her lips. She didn’t want to cause a scene in a public place such as this. She spoke calmly to Riven.

“Can you let them see the mark so they can leave?”

Riven looked at her and realised that even she too was in doubt. He inhaled sharply and shook his head.

“No.”

Revealing his identity in public was too risky but just as he refused the crowd was thrown into a frenzy, even Odessa was stunned.

“You see, he just refused because he isn’t the Wei’s heir!” Valentin sneered. “Miss Chen, why would you let yourself be fooled by a liar and a fraud?! You don’t deserve this!”

Riven narrowed his eyes on Valentin.

“Funny how the most dishonest ones will try to cover up their crimes and be the first to throw stones.”

Valentin’s face shaped into a frown instantly. “What did you say?”

“Does everyone here know that you slept with the secretary of a rival company just to get secrets to use to destroy the CEO?” Riven asked with a little smirk.

Valentin’s lips quivered as his eyes bulged out of their sockets.

How did he—

“And do they also know about your gambling debts, the shell accounts you use to steal money from your family company’s accounts?—”

“—Or you have suddenly repented and decide to seek pardon for your sins by doing this?”

“Shut up!” Valentin half-yelled.

Cold sweat breaking across his forehead, sliding down his face.

Nobody should know about this!

Nobody knew about this expect him and his father. They had hidden this so well so how does this trash know so much about his shady dealings?!

Seeing that the crowd had gone silent and they were all staring at him, fear crept into Valentin’s heart.

“You all shouldn’t believe a thing that comes out of this punk’s mouth! He’s only lying just to make sure you all don’t prove his identity!” Valentin said with conviction, but his earlier confidence stance had broken. “You all shouldn’t be fooled! How can I even do all these things that he has said?! I’m innocent.”

“I have known Valentin for years and I can testify to the fact that none of this is true!” Someone suddenly spoke up from the crowd.

“Yes! Valentin Gao is a philanthropist who has done many good deals for this city. There’s no way he would try to jeopardize his good name by doing all these things this man accuses him off.”

“He is probably just trying to cook up stories to get us off his back and smear Mr. Gao’s good name! Mr. Gao, arrest him for slander!”

“Yes! He must be dealt with!”

Valentin relaxed instantly, his lips twisting into a sick smile. “Your time is up, loser. Get ready to lose your head for not only lying to Miss Chen but trying to smear my name in the mud!”

“Are you sure your name is being smeared in the mud or you have just had all these people too decieved to see through your lies?” Riven asked calmly.

“You…!”

“Stop talking already!” Elias sounded. “And what are you all still doing moping around?! Take this man down and check for the mark!”

“Yes young master Chen!”

“Elias, stop this! This is a public place!” Odessa yelled but no one listened to her.

The men instantly charged at Riven but just as they were about to manhandle him, several phones began ringing with notifications.

“You guys, check the news!”

Valentin’s eyes dropped to his phone and his face went pale as he staggered backwards in shock. His phone rang blatantly in his hands, his fingers shook as he answered the call.

“VALENTIN GAO, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!”

Orion stared straight at Harold. “Mr. Geng, are you purposely attacking me for some reason?”Harold opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by him.“Riven invited me here and as sworn brothers I decided to honor his invitation,” he added.“Riven? How can this low life get an invite?” Valentin said with disbelief. Riven ignored him and handed the security guard his invitation card. Everyone watched closely as they checked the authenticity of the invitation card.“Mr. Zhao, Mr. Wei, you may go in,” the security guard said respectfully.“What?! Did you check the card very well?” Valentin said, wide eyed. “That invitation has to be a fake.”Riven’s brow furrowed slightly. “Mr. Gao, are you trying to say the guards are incompetent? If that’s what you are implying then you might as well be insulting the Wang family who made the arrangements.”“You…!” Valentin went breet red. “That’s not what I meant!”“That’s enough,” the chief security guard cuts in. “Mr. Gao, you are here without an

Valentin’s voice was quite loud as he accused Riven and most of the guests stopped to stare. He glanced at the crowd and grew bolder.“Yes. Don’t deny it. Your salesperson authorized the transaction and if you really think I stole the Villa, why haven’t I be thrown out yet?” Riven asked with a raised brow.Valentin’s face went red as he bit hard on his lower lip.Riven’s lips curled up in a smirk.“Or has your asslicking gone from bad to worse in a matter of days.”“You…!” Valentin was furious. What right does this man have to speak to me in that manner?Harold exhaled a sharp breath.“Forget it. Riven glanced at him, puzzled. Mavin had told him that the Wang family usually extends invitations to the sworn families in Kairen City but only the Geng family attends the auction. The Mori family and the Zhao family have never been in support of such acts but still receive invitations.“What do you mean?”Orion released a sigh before responding.“Riven, the ties between the sworn families aren’t as strong as they were decades ago. The Zhao family has issues with the Xu family especially because of this act so naturally we won’t be receiving invitations from them. My grandfather cut ties with them before he died.”Riven gave an understanding nod. “Alright. Meanwhile, outside the conference room the people who had left after Desmond Liu did surrounded him.“Mr. Liu, wasn’t your actions impulsive right now? What if she reports this to the headquarters, we will be implicated,” One of them said with fear in his eyes.“Are you scared?” Desmond asked with a cold scoff. “She can’t do anything to me. The company needs me and she knows it. All we should be doing right now is looking for ways to frustrate her into leaving.”“That’s true, Mr. Liu. Some of us are older than her and we have more experience. What right does she think she has to lead the company?” Another chimed in with hatred coating his voice. “Good thinking, Zane,” Desmond said with a smile. “This is the kind of mentality all of us should be having. If I become the general manager or more less the CEO of this company, you all can be rest assured that you will get benefits from me.”“Ah, Mr. Liu, you’re so generous.”“You are more deserving of that position, Mr. Liu.”“Even if she

Elias’ face suddenly went sullen. Although they had migrated from Aurora Corporation to Chen group and were trying to build it up, they had encountered many difficulties on the way.“Grandma, Davis Corporation called us to tell us that they are terminating their contract with us. They are the twentieth company that wants to terminate cooperation with us over the past few days.”“Most of these people have heard about our riff with the Sterling Corporation and they are turning their backs on us,” Alyssa sulked.“This is embarrassing. They are all just a bunch of cowards. Davis Corporation used to be worse than the Chen group and they sucked up to us to obtain a cooperation with us and now, they are dumping us,” Elias spat out angrily, forgetting the now receding pain on his cheeks.“Enough. This is how life works and there’s nothing to be angry about,” Old Lady Chen spoke. “The person responsible for all this is Odessa and the important thing that should be on our minds is getting the
