Chapter 2:

“Elias, what are you doing here?”

Elias chuckled darkly. “Why weren’t we invited to the wedding, cousin? But well, I came here to—”

His gazes locked onto Riven, scanning him from head to toe before wrinkling his nose in disgust.

“—to see who you have shamefully bonded yourself to. And alas, I am not disappointed! My cousin has married a mad man.”

Elias slowly circled Riven once before clicking his tongue. “Tsk, I expected someone… respectable.”

He tugged lightly at Riven’s sleeve.

“This shirt looks like it came from a roadside stall,” he noted before erupting into laughter.

Elias’s loud laughter drew giggles from others in the courtroom as well his friends behind him.

Odessa’s fists curled up by her sides as she tried to keep her cool. Riven had a blank and bored expression on.

“Despite all the rich heirs chasing after you, you decided to settle for this. You have tarnished the Chen family’s image, Odessa and who knows whether this homeless looking man is actually the real Wei’s son or a fake!” Elias spat. “He isn’t even here with the Zhao’s heir or any of their family’s entourage!”

Odessa couldn’t help but hesitate.

The rumors throughout Kairen City had always been the same. After the Wei family was destroyed, the surviving heir had been taken in by the Zhao family.

Even if he wasn’t treated like a young master, shouldn’t someone from the Zhao family have accompanied him today?

Yet he had arrived alone in a taxi. His clothes were simple and ordinary, his shoes were looking worn out.

If he truly was the Wei heir…

Why did nobody from the Zhao family appear?

Riven saw through Odessa’s thoughts and couldn’t help but scoff.

“Are you the son of the Wei family or someone else?” Odessa asked, straightening up as she stared at Riven.

Riven didn’t feel like he had anything to prove with his identity and so he nodded.

“I am.”

“Of course he would agree that he is the Wei’s family heir,” Elias said with a sneer.

“Even I can be the Wei’s family son and nobody would know the truth,” One of Elias’s friends said, drawing another round of laughter.

Riven narrowed his eyes at the man who just spoke, the smile vanished from his face instantly and he frowned.

Who does this punk have such a terrifying gaze?

“I have heard that the Wei family’s heir has a dragon shaped scar on his neck. If this man who claims to be the Wei heir has it then I will eat my head but if he doesn’t, we will beat him to death for having deceived Miss Chen into marrying him!”

“Yes, Mister Gao is right. Let’s check!”

“We can’t allow Miss Chen to be deceived by this gutter trash!”

“He doesn’t look like he was adopted by the Zhao family. Look at his watch, it’s cheap!”

“Definitely picked from a dumpster!”

Riven watches as the crowd moves towards him in a bid to check his neck. His jaw clenched slightly. If he were to allow them to check the mark in a public place such as this, too many eyes would be on him.

He stared straight at the man who had revealed details about the mark.

Valentin Gao lets out a wide smirk.

“I think the homeless man is scared now, Elias,” he sneered. Glancing over at Odessa, his gaze softens. “Miss Chen, if only you had agreed to marry me, you wouldn’t have been deceived by him.”

“Interesting,” Riven began. “A man who slept with the secretary of his rival just to get information is trying to save someone from a supposed condemnation.”

“You…”

Valentin’s face went red with shame and anger as the crowd went silent, staring at him with disbelief. No one knew about his dealings with his rival company’s secretary.

He had slept with her in order to get information to ruin the company’s name. How did this man get such information about him?

Riven’s lips formed into a small smirk.

“And do these people know that you are drowning in gambling debts?”

Valentin’s pupils shank briefly before he forced out a laugh.

“You… you see, he is really insane,” he sneered, the confidence in his voice cracking. “Now, he is inventing stories because he got cornered. Hehe.”

Riven merely smiled.

“Whether I’m insane…” He glanced at Valentin. “…or not…”

“The truth always has a habit of finding dishonest people.”
