“The Guixin Beast.”

The beast towered over Shen Wuyin. Its body was covered in dark violet scales that trembled with every breath it took.

Its dragon eyes narrowed, locking onto him.

A faint haze of memory surfaced in Shen Wuyin's mind.

The Guixin Beast had once been an immortal being. Her defiance and conspiracy against an ancient goddess had condemned her to this monstrous form.

Shen Wuyin studied it carefully.

"It awakened right after I completed the Spirit Jade Crystal summoning."

His gaze fixed on its eyes.

"Then she must be the carrier of the spirit jade crystal."

A brilliant green sparkle glimmered deep within its pupils.

Smoke escaped its nostrils, carrying scorching heat.

Shen Wuyin swiftly bent down and picked up a sharp stone shard.

Pew!

Several scales shot from the beast's body.

They crossed the distance in an instant.

Shen Wuyin channeled qi into his legs and darted aside.

The scales buried themselves into the summit behind him.

The beast's gaze never left him.

"It has to be in its eyes. That sparkle gives it away."

More scales erupted from its body.

This time, a dark mist followed them.

Every patch of ground they struck withered instantly.

"Poison."

Shen Wuyin dodged left and right, narrowly avoiding the barrage.

"I need to..."

Bang!

Something blurred.

A tremendous force slammed into his ribs.

Shen Wuyin was blasted across the summit.

Blood spilled from his mouth.

The beast's tail slowly retracted into its body.

That was its surprise attack. Its tail could extend and retract at will.

Before Shen Wuyin could recover, five scales pierced into him, scattering his qi barrier.

One lodged near his heart. The remaining four sank deep into his flesh.

A ragged grunt escaped his lips.

Dark veins immediately spread from the wounds.

He pushed himself back to his feet. His limbs trembled.

The poison surged through his meridians and rushed toward his dantian.

Shen Wuyin dropped to one knee.

Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

Dark veins wrapped around his heart like living chains. His skin darkened.

Despite the agony, he refused to release the stone shard in his grip.

His fingers tightened around it.

"I need that jade crystal no matter what."

He spat a mouthful of black blood.

Qi wrapped around his body.

Pew!

Another scale shot toward him.

It pierced straight through his qi barrier.

Shen Wuyin lowered himself and narrowly avoided being struck in the eye.

The poison continued spreading throughout his body.

Every heartbeat carried it deeper into his meridians.

His breathing grew heavier.

"There has to be a weak point."

He charged forward.

The instant the beast attacked again, Shen Wuyin slid beneath its body and coated the stone shard with the Fire Technique he had taken from Zhang Chi. He drove the flaming shard into its scales.

The Guixin Beast roared, its voice shaking the summit as loose stones tumbled from the surrounding cliffs.

Shen Wuyin's eyes narrowed.

The wound he had carved into its chest was already closing.

Flesh squirmed.

Muscles knit together.

Within moments, the gaping injury disappeared completely as though it had never existed.

His gaze remained fixed on the beast.

Something was wrong.

Its chest remained perfectly still.

Only its back expanded and contracted with each breath.

A realization flashed through his mind.

Its heart wasn't in its chest.

The Guixin Beast possessed a reversed anatomy.

"I have to pierce its heart."

Dark smoke poured from the beast's nostrils as its crimson eyes locked onto him.

The killing intent radiating from its body intensified.

Then it charged.

The summit trembled violently beneath its weight.

Massive cracks spread across the rocky ground as the beast barreled forward like an avalanche given form.

Shen Wuyin immediately turned and ran.

Qi surged through his body, propelling him forward at astonishing speed.

Wind howled past his ears.

The mountain blurred around him.

Yet every surge of qi worsened his condition. The poison coursing through his meridians accelerated.

Dark blood seeped from the corners of his eyes.

His veins burned. His vision blurred at the edges.

Even breathing became difficult.

Still, he continued moving.

If he stopped now, he would die.

The beast rapidly closed the distance.

Its enormous jaws opened.

A foul stench washed over him.

At the very last moment, Shen Wuyin released a violent burst of qi beneath his feet.

Boom!

His body shot into the sky.

Pain immediately exploded through his chest.

His weakened heart struggled to endure the strain.

A sharp pain spread throughout his body.

His heartbeat became sluggish.

Faint.

Unstable.

Ignoring everything, Shen Wuyin twisted himself in midair and descended toward the beast.

Flames erupted around the sword in his hand.

The weapon blazed like a falling meteor.

The instant he landed upon the beast's back, he plunged the sword downward with every ounce of strength he possessed.

The blade pierced through the scales.

The resistance was immense.

The Guixin Beast roared.

Its body convulsed violently.

Shen Wuyin gritted his teeth and forced the blade deeper.

Then he dragged it downward.

A massive line split across the beast's back.

Scales shattered, flesh tore apart. Blood erupted from the wound. The exposed flesh beneath writhed as it began healing immediately.

A gigantic dark violet heart pulsed within the beast's back.

Before the wound could fully close, Shen Wuyin thrust the broken stone shard in his other hand directly into the exposed organ.

The shard sank deep into the heart.

The Guixin Beast released a deafening roar.

The entire mountain shook. Its body thrashed wildly. Massive shockwaves swept across the summit.

Hundreds of scales suddenly exploded outward from its body.

Shen Wuyin's eyes widened.

He tried to evade. One of the scales pierced directly into his forehead.

Everything went dark. For a brief moment, he felt neither pain nor sound.

Only darkness, within it, a fragment of memory surfaced.

The poison of the Guixin Beast did not merely kill. It transformed.

Mortals poisoned by it would gradually lose their humanity before becoming grotesque beasts.

Shen Wuyin lost his footing and fell from the beast's back.

His body slammed against the shattered summit.

Blood spilled from his mouth. His vision swam.

Moments later, the Guixin Beast collapsed.

Its enormous body crashed against the mountain with a thunderous impact.

Dust billowed into the sky. The ground trembled violently.

Then its massive head slammed into the crack where Shen Wuyin had fallen.

Crunch!

A sickening sound echoed through the summit.

The weight crushed his spine.

A groan tore from his throat. Pain unlike anything he had experienced since his reincarnation flooded his body.

Every breath drew felt heavy.

Yet Shen Wuyin refused to remain still. His fingers dug into the stone. He crawled forward, his arms trembled violently beneath him.

His knees repeatedly buckled. Blood trailed behind him.

"Failing is not an option."

Using the last remnants of his strength, Shen Wuyin seized another jagged stone shard.

Then he dragged himself toward the beast's head.

His vision blurred further.

The poison continued spreading.

Dark veins snaked across his body, his heartbeat weakened.

Still he kept moving.Reaching the beast's eye, he raised the shard, then he drove it downward.

Blood splashed across his face.

The beast remained motionless.

With a savage pull, Shen Wuyin gouged the eye free.

The gem shaped eyeball landed heavily in his trembling hands.

Breathing heavily, he began peeling away its outer layers.

Blood poured over his fingers as he separated the flesh.

Then something brilliant emerged from within.

"The Spirit Jade Crystal."

The crystal radiated dazzling light.

Though no larger than a fist, pure spiritual energy flowed endlessly from it.

A faint smile appeared on his bloodstained face.

He staggered to his feet while clutching the crystal.

Dark blood gushed from the corners of his lips and eyes.

The poison had spread further.

Blackened veins pulsed beneath his skin like living creatures.

A guttural groan escaped his throat.

The whites of his eyes gradually vanished, consumed by endless darkness.

A round of applause echoed across the summit.

Shen Wuyin slowly lifted his head.

Five figures emerged from the shadows.

The five high grade cultivators. Each of them held a spirit weapon.

Spears. Swords. Axes. Sledgehammers.

Their eyes were fixed upon the Spirit Jade Crystal.

One of them smiled. “You've done well.”

The rest stepped forward.

“Now hand over the Spirit Jade Crystal.”

A smirk tugged at the corner of Shen Wuyin's bloodstained lips. “Peasants.”

"As you wish." They grinned.

They flashed  their  spirit weapon toward him from every direction.

In his current state, Shen Wuyin could barely defend himself.

Each strike forced him backward and sent pain through his shattered body.

Step by step, they drove him toward the edge of the summit.

His weakened heart finally reached its limit.

A sharp pain exploded within his chest.

His body staggered.

One of the cultivators immediately seized the opportunity and ripped the Spirit Jade Crystal from his grasp.

The man laughed, the sound echoed within the summit.

“A filth you are.” His eyes filled with contempt. “A filth you'll remain.”

The five cultivators surrounded him, without hesitation they struck him together.

Shen Wuyin's battered body was hurled over the edge of the cliff.
