Natasha snorted and gave her credit card. The cashier swiped the card in the machine, but the swipe got declined.
The cashier swiped again. The same thing happened.
He looked at the sisters once, and Skarlette told him to do it again.
The cashier tried again, and it didn’t work.
“I’m sorry, the transaction has been declined. There must be an issue with the card.”
“That’s impossible,” Natasha raised her voice. “Check again.”
He checked again, but the same thing happened. He gave them the card but not the items. “Can you please move aside?”
Skarlette was shell-shocked, whereas Natasha quivered with mortification and could not lift her head to look in Russell’s direction.
Being told to move aside by a mere cashier… was there anything more humiliating?
Seeing their pale expressions, Russell whispered to Kyra, “Can you pay for them?”
Kyra didn’t expect that, so she couldn’t hide the look of surprise. “I can, but…” she answered in a low voice, “it might be taken in the wrong way.”
“Skarlette is your friend, isn’t she?” he reasoned. “So, it should be fine.”
Kyra felt like he wasn’t entirely wrong, so she told the cashier, “They are my friends, so please deduct their amount in my card.” She gave the cashier a black dragon platinum card, which made him gasp, especially after seeing the 11B symbol on it.
“T-This is the top most castcard of the Supreme Bank, which is only given to eleven people in the world at any point in time!” the cashier’s tongue rolled out of control.
A castcard was a use-and-throw card given only to the special customers, but the Black Dragon Platinum card was only given to the top most customers of the bank, and this card allowed usage up to 11 billion dollars.
Natasha’s face turned ugly. She couldn’t digest that her wedding clothes would be bought by Russell’s fiancee. She was about to shout and tell Kyra to mind her business, but her sister held Natasha’s hand and shook her head as though warning her to not overreact.
Skarlette then stepped forward and smiled politely, “Thank you, Kyra. I’ll definitely transfer you the amount once I go home and solve the issue.”
“It’s okay,” Kyra smiled back just the same. “Take your time.”
Then they exchanged mobile numbers.
As they were walking out of the store together, Natasha kept glancing at Russell, and he wasn’t even looking at her. Even back at the counter, he had barely looked at her. (Why isn’t he looking? Why does he act like I don’t exist?) With every step she took, she grew more and more mad.
Just then, Kyra remembered that she had forgotten her scarf inside the store, so she told him to wait and went back in. Russell was holding the bags, and the sisters were looking right at him like raging twin rabbits. They looked quite similar when they were angry, after all.
Russell put the bags on the side of the staircase and hurried into the store.
“Look at him. He doesn’t even want to talk to us anymore,” Skarlette snorted. “Money really changes people.”
Natasha’s brows turned stiff. She looked away. Not far from her, a random street dog defecated, which made her frown initially, but a sudden thought crossed her mind, and she grinned.
Moments later, Kyra and Russell walked out of the store and saw that the sisters were gone.
Kyra felt relieved and smiled. Russell grabbed the bags, and they left in her red Alfa Wolfe sports car. She was in the driving seat, and he sat next to her. But neither of them spoke a word for a while.
Kyra frowned a little as her nose picked up a nasty smell. “Is it just me, or do you also smell anything bad?”
Russell sniffed a couple of times and shook his head. “I have a little cold, so I can’t tell.”
Kyra opened the windows and didn’t mind the smell anymore. She eventually dropped him at his house. He got out pretty quickly. “Hey,” she called for him. “Take this bag.” She handed him the bag that had his suit. “You’re going to be wearing this.”
Russell pursed his lips and took the bag before walking through the main gate.
“Not even a little ‘see ya,’” Kyra mumbled, feeling a little disappointed because she had even stopped the car engine, hoping he’d take a hint and invite her into his home. “Maybe I should lower my expectations. It’s still too early in our relationship, after all.” She started the engine and drove away.
Meanwhile, Perro had begun sniffing the cloth bag as soon as Russell entered through the gate. It tried to catch the bag, but Russell was very vigilant this time. He kept the bag out of Perro’s reach. “You can buy multiple houses with the suit in this bag, Perro. It’s not made for your teeth!” he scolded Perro. The dog would usually listen to him, but today, it was being a good bit defiant.
“Perro!” Jennifer’s cold voice reached the dog’s ears, and it immediately became docile and ran out of the house and into its little dog-home.
Jennifer saw the bag in Russell’s hand. “What’s that?” she asked in a sharp, arrogant tone.
“The wedding suit…” Russell weakly responded. “Kyra bought it for me.”
“Oh…” Jennifer raised her brows. “How costly is it? Did she spend at least 20,000 on the suit?”
“2.7 million,” he said, and Jennifer’s expression froze for a second.
“Give it to me,” Jennifer quickly waved with her fingers. He gave the bag nd went to his room.
Jennifer hurriedly checked the bag. There was a thin, high-quality wooden box inside that looked like a briefcase. “Look at this. It’s made of black teak. Talk about lavishness.” Her expectations hit the roof. She opened the box with a big smile. But her expression steadily took a U-turn when she saw the poop-smeared pink suit. Her body reacted on its own, and her hands cast the box up into the air in shock. Bits of the dog poo fell on top of her head, cracking her expression. “Kyaaaah!” she screamed in horror.
In Lynn Estate.
Kyra came home and gave the clothing bag to the maid and told her to show it to her mom. The maid took the bag to Charlotte’s room and left it on the bed.
Charlotte finished exercising and checked the bag with big expectations. However, what she saw was a poop-smeared white wedding dress. Disgusted, she threw it away. “What the hell?” she remembered Kyra telling she’d take Russell along for shopping. “Did that little bastard do this?” all the veins in her neck throbbed. "How dare he..."
Laughing till their stomachs burst, Natasha and Skarlette came home to their 5000-square-foot bungalow their dad had bought for 700,000 dollars many years ago. It had a luxurious finishing with custom details, and their father, Frederick, made sure to get it painted every other year. So, the building looked pretty new even to this day. It was the biggest building in the neighborhood and would sell for at least 4 million dollars in the market today. The sisters were literally in tears from laughing, and their mother, Diana, felt happy from seeing them. Diana almost looked like them, even though she was twice as old as them. Even her brown hair was thick and long. Diet and exercise were her secrets, and she made sure to discipline her children in this regard, though she didn’t really care about the other things in their life, at least not until recently.“What’s so funny?” Diana asked.“Nothing, Mom,” Natasha gave the clothing bags to her mom and went to her father’s room along with her
“I will build a great monument for you, Natasha,” a manly voice kept giving promises to her over the mobile, and she couldn’t help but blush. “Our names will be etched in history as the greatest lovers the world has ever seen.” “Stop it, Denver. You’re exaggerating your love a bit too much.” “I’m actually understating it, dear,” Denver’s voice was rough yet tender. She could feel a comforting warmth in his voice, which she didn’t feel all that much in Russell’s voice. “If you cut open my heart, you will find yourself in it.” Natasha’s blush deepened. She missed getting praised like this. While Russell’s company wasn’t particularly bad, he wasn’t anywhere as romantic as Denver, and she had to actively kiss Russell to even get a kiss back from him. “I should have realized your love for me sooner, Denver.” “It’s alright. I’m glad you finally accepted my love. You’ll be my princess forever,” Denver blew a kiss that tickled her ears. “See you tonight.” “Tonight?” “Yeah, I’ll sneak int
“EHHH?” Russell’s heart shook when Viola said she was going to text Kyra Lynn. However, he immediately remembered that he didn’t have her contact number in his phone. “Wait, you can’t message her because I don’t have her number.”“But I’ve already memorized her number,” Viola quickly started typing the message and read the words she was typing, “Hi, I’m Russell Bennett, your fiance. I've been unable to sleep properly ever since meeting you.”“Oi, oi, oi,” Russell got up and wrestled with her for fifteen seconds before using his brute strength and bending her wrist, making her cry and let go of his mobile. He grabbed his mobile quickly and began checking IT. Luckily she didn’t send the message yet. “Whew.”“You pig!” Viola started beating him in anger. “I was helping you, and this is how you treat your sister?”“Aw, wait!” Russell caught her arms again, and she immediately started yelling, “Mom!”Russell instantly let go of her. “I’m sorry,” he apologized in a low voice.“Sorry isn’t e
Arnold staggered. (I don’t get it. Why would Fredrick do such a thing?) “This must be some kind of a mistake,” he quickly said. “I’ll call him right now.” He dialed Fredrick’s number but couldn’t reach it. He tried a couple more times, but the same thing happened. He looked at Tyler and said, “I’m calling. I’ll talk to him.”“You have the IQ of a spoon, dude,” Tyler bluntly said. “He probably already blocked your number. Don’t you get that? Or are you trying my patience?”Arnold’s expression froze like a fly stuck in a web.“This is what happens when you stay at someone’s house for free,” Tyler indifferently stated.“T-That’s not true,” Arnold had worked his ass off for Fredrick and his businesses. His efforts would surely cover the rent for this house. He was never leeching off of Fredrick. He had his pride to keep, after all. Even the car given to him by Fredrick was not a new car but a used car, and it wasn’t worth much. Still, Arnold used that car mostly to do Fredrick’s work than
If there was one thing that Russell and his siblings learned that day, it was that nobody would hesitate to humiliate you and your family if you were poor and didn’t have much influence.Arnold definitely had some influence in the neighborhood, but none of that mattered once Fredrick stopped supporting him. Even those who Arnold knew outside of Fredrick’s influence weren’t willing to give their support to him now.The humiliation and heartbreak they had to face after walking out of the house was much more compared to what Tyler had put them through.Arnold wanted to move to the town where Jennifer’s parents lived, but Jennifer was utterly against leaving the city. Besides, Arnold already owned a small farm house, so why should she and her children leave the city? That made no sense to her.In the end, she forced Arnold to move all the luggage to the farm where Russell’s mom, Elora, was living.Russell felt so happy as he would be able to live with his mother, but the moment Jennifer e
A young brunette in a long pony-tail was walking slowly, looking disheartened. Her bag felt all the more heavy today. This was Jessica, one of Russell’s schoolmates, and she used to be pretty close to Russell when they were kids, so close they exchanged lunch boxes and also used to greet each other every day with kisses. But that was all when they were in middle school. She was not tall like Natasha, and she didn’t know how to perfectly apply contour to her face, which Natash was extremely good at. She didn’t have money like Natasha. Her parents had divorced each other and stopped caring about her and her younger brother, so Jessica didn’t even have the chance to join a university. She had been working many part-time jobs to take care of herself and her douchebag of a younger brother.Jessica’s phone rang. It was a used mobile she bought from the one that was calling right now.“Hey, Jessie, where are you?” the one on the other side asked in a hurry.“Just walking. I lost my most-payi
Jessica was checking the online posts while heading home on foot. She never used a cab because it was too expensive. She used to have a bicycle, but her younger brother, Derek, had taken it this morning, so she had no other choice but to walk to work and to return home the same way. Right now, Jessica wasn’t worrying about the fact that she had to walk many blocks because the comments she was reading made her utterly furious. Irene: Natasha escaped hell by rejecting Russell because I still remember it vividly… he came in twenty seconds the first time we did it… and his timings only got worse afterward. Irene’s comment twisted Jessica’s gut. Irene was Russell’s first girlfriend; in fact, the only girlfriend he had until he eventually started dating Natasha. Irene used to be fat when she was in school. No boy would even look at her twice, even though she was always in the top 10 class rankings. On one January 1st, Irene asked Russell out on a date, and he accepted her. They dated for
Charlotte kept giving one reason after another as to why Russell wasn’t a good match for her. “Be it in terms of beauty, or wealth, or elegance, or talent, he’s nothing compared to you. The college he graduated at is a joke, and his job is even a bigger joke.”Kyra was utterly puzzled. “Weren’t you the one who chose him because he’s ‘part’ of the relatives?”“Yeah, but…” Charlotte then explained about the dog poo incident.“What?” Kyra was shocked. “He did such a thing?”“No matter how upset he may be, he has no right to smear your wedding dress with dog poo,” Charlotte had the look of disgust on her face. If Russell was around, she would have probably slapped him ten times and scolded him a thousand times. “Being upset doesn’t give him the right to insult and taunt us like this!”Kyra still couldn’t believe it. “But he seemed so genuine…”Charlotte stood and hugged her daughter. “We should be glad we came to know what type of a man he is before the marriage.”Kyra hugged her mother t
